I really appreciate the reply and yeah, I have heard that said on here before and I get it, I understand. Costly to get to tournaments, lodging, food on the road and on and on. Plus variance can make the toughest burly man cry like a teenage girl. However, I know that it is possible, others are doing it. Should it be your only source of income? Probably not. Will most fail that try? Yup. Will I? Nope. There are a lot of reasons for saying that and it will make a great future post.

Cheers

Was pulling out of Williston, ND and resigned to my fate of driving 600 miles empty to find that next tournament and get in a better spot for freight. Got a call from dispatch to hold up and that she was working on a load. I waited. 20 minutes later, she called back that she got me a load picking up 100 miles away in Montana delivering on Sunday 1450 miles away in Commerce, CA! (Happy Dance done with excellence) So by the time I get there it will be about 3900 miles driven in 6 days. I am going to be tired and should take a couple days to rest... If only there was somewhere reasonably close that had lots of hotels and casinos with some large poker events going on....yeah, that would be perfect

The drive was cool, started yesterday in western Montana, had to be in the 40's when I woke up. You could see snow on the mountaintops, drove through some amazing 2 lane roads to get to I-15 in Idaho. Took it all the way down to southern California. From cool crisp morning to fry your brains in the Mohave heat. Waved at Vegas as I drove through. Arrived at my delivery about 4am and got some much needed sleep.

Checked my Poker Atlas App and the Commerce Casino was literally only a half mile away with a 10K Guaranteed for only $65. So, I finally sat my first live tournament in quite a while. Played less than perfect, didn't cash but really enjoyed myself.

Had a monster 4000 mile week, still kinda in a daze. The plan is to sleep a bit then head to Vegas for some tournament fun tomorrow. Will keep ya posted.

Got up Monday morning ready to head to Vegas... Get a call from dispatch "Hold tight, I think I have a load for you" Inform my dispatcher that it had better be a load to Vegas. She said, "No a nice one to Arkansas!" Wait? What? Told her of my displeasure and hoped she didn't secure the load. 10 minutes later she calls back, "We got the load, will get the info over to you". To top it off, the pick-up gets pushed back a day. So much wasted time and Vegas dreams crushed...

Currently in New Mexico and grabbing some breakfast. I am pretty sure I will end up in Tulsa or Kansas City for some poker within the next couple days. Which means, I may or may not but possibly could, probably a good likelihood if everything works out...

Who knows, maybe I will get a load right back out west. The good news is there is always another tournament somewhere and I don't need to rush it.

Be Amazing

Made my delivery yesterday with high hopes of getting a load out of Arkansas and it didn't happen. This morning, I drove over to Watts, OK and played a real fun $30 Tournament with $10 rebuys at the Cherokee Casino. Had $90 invested, took first in that one for $400 so that was good. Then I drove over to the HardRock Casino is Tulsa and jumped in to their $75 Tournament this evening and cashed in that one as well for $340. Both of these tournaments were about 25 or 26 entries and top 3 got paid in both. I have to say it felt really good. Both tournaments were so different. The rebuy had 15 minute levels and i got premium hands a lot and just kept rolling. The tournament in Tulsa was so much different. I got a few good pots and battled post flop a lot. Quality starting hands were almost non existent and was much more of a battle.

Tomorrow I think I am going to stick around for a couple earlier tournaments and then begin working my way towards home for the 4th. Will update as I can

$800 Package update. 3 Tournaments played with total entries, rebuys & add ons of $230. 2 cashes for a total of $740. Investors are basically freerolling at this point.

Let's go!

Played one tournament today at the River Spirit/ Margaritaville Casino in Tulsa, OK for $50 plus a $10 add-on. Didn't cash, thought I played well for the most part. Currently south of St Louis, Mo and may play a tournament near Chicago tomorrow before heading home for some family time.

Onward, upward and occasionally sideways for short periods of time

Family time got delayed. Got up towards Chicago and got a call from dispatch for a load going to Wichita, KS. I accepted the load and delivered it this morning. Got another load onboard that delivers in Topeka tomorrow morning. I am thinking that after I deliver, I should to head to KC and play an 11am Turbo at Harrah's while I wait for the next load. Will give dispatch until evening to find me a load towards home. Family is out camping and I can almost hear the grandkids now, "Grandpa, let's go fishing!"

Played a 11am Turbo in Kansas City on Tuesday. Fired 2 bullets and blanked. Didn't end up getting a load out of KC so I drove back to Michigan empty. Had a great time with the family out camping then the wife I headed to the house. Dispatch was looking for a load for me, the day was winding down and I was getting excited about just relaxing for the weekend with the blonde. Dispatch called...delivered a load in Georgia this afternoon. Sitting at Denny's trying to decide on the poker plan for the next day or two. Biloxi is about 4 hours away, some good tournaments in northern Florida as well but want to be in the best position for freight. Might be a day to kick back at Denny's and grind out a few tourney's on Global. Undecided

Some Tournaments/Series that I would like to experience. In July I am going to let the freight dictate where I am at and what tournaments I will or won't play. In August, I will be a lot more selective and use the freight to get me to a tournament I want to play.

Pearl River $50K Guaranteed - 7/12-7/15
Seneca 2018 Summer Slam 7/19-7/29
Foxwoods Weekend Mini Series 7/20-7/22
Rivers The Pittsburgh Hammer 7/25-7/29
Horseshoe Tunica 50K Guaranteed 7/27-7/29
Cherokee WSOPC Global Championship 8/2-8/13
Venetian August Deepstack Extravaganza 8/9-8/19
Pearl River 50K Guaranteed 8/9 -8/12
Foxwoods WSOPC 8/16-8/27
Venetian Senior Extravaganza 8/20-8/26
Toledo - Hollywood Poker Challenge 8/23-9/3

I am thinking I am going to put together a package for my live August tournaments. That will depend I suppose on my July results. Just thinking out loud.

Picked up a load in Georgia and delivered to Minneapolis, then delivered in Milwaukee and then delivered this evening near Indianapolis. The plan for tomorrow is to have dispatch find a load for me to a great poker area and play a lot of poker this weekend. That is the plan... stay tuned

Man oh man, just never know what to expect one day to the next. Got a short load from Indy to Columbus. I was getting towards the end of the day on Friday, figured my shot for a load was about done. I was looking for poker tournaments and trying to decide how I should spend my weekend... Yes sir, my dispatcher got me a load at the last minute delivering on Monday in Santa Maria, CA. Was a pretty cool 2500 mile run. Didn't do much on Monday. Yesterday I played in a $60 tournament at the Chumash Casino in Santa Ynez, CA. 24 entries, I got knocked out one before the bubble. No cash but really enjoyed the tournament. Hit the final table as chip leader and a failed bluff cost me 1/2 my stack to the other big stack at the table. After that, really couldn't get muh going.

Freight has been weird coming out of California this week, very slow so far. Relocated a little closer to LA, was planning on heading to the Commerce Casino tonight but was on hold for a load, looks like I may grind a bit online. If I don't get a load before, I will be at the Commerce Casino for their AM tournament tomorrow.

$800 Package update - 6 tournaments, $450 in entries, 2 Cashes for $740

Most of the time I enjoy my driving around the country delivering freight. But when you deliver a load on Monday and are still sitting on Saturday without a load, it is very frustrating. Freight was really slow the beginning of the week which created an excess of drivers in the area, then they start bidding these loads at super low rates because of all the competition. This industry is trying at times.

Upside, played in three tournaments at the Commerce Casino this week. Downside, no cashes.

$800 Package update - 9 tournaments, $705 in entries, 2 cashes for $740

Finally made it out of California. Got a load down to San Diego then got a load up to the middle of nowhere in northern Nevada. Hopefully out of here soon.

I did get to play a tournament on Sunday at Commerce Casino they had a 10K Guarantee for $65 with a $50 rebuy. Didn't cash. Weird start to the day, they had 90 people signed up before the start of the tournament. Only had dealers for 5 tables, slowly they got more and more dealers and finally got everyone seated 3 hours after the start. Whatever, they got it together eventually.

This does end the $800 package a will definitely be putting a package together for August.

Left the house June 19th. Spent about 4 hours at home way back in July. spent the night in my own bed last night. It was awesome. Camping this weekend unless I am driving to California or something crazy.

Played three tournaments since my last post. Stopped by Planet Hollywood in Vegas and played one of their daily's, was bubble boy and made $10 profit. Played a $100 Satellite in Blackhawk and didn't qualify. Played a daily at Meadow Prairie in Altoona, IA. This one bummed me out a bit, played great, took one bad suck out and set me up in perfect position to be bubble boy. Bubble two out of the last three. No substantial win in the last 10 tournaments. Time for a heater.

New Package starting for my next $320 worth of live tournaments. Will keep ya posted

Ok, been almost exactly a month since I have posted. Well, only have played two live tournaments since then, had fun but didn't cash in either.

Stranded in San Antonio waiting for my dispatch team to get me a load. I hate sitting and waiting but Poker Atlas does have some poker tournaments listed in the area and may go check out the scene.

Been listening to a lot of poker content and playing a lot online. I discovered I can play on Global on my cell phone. Just one table but it has been non-stop poker. Pretty happy with the way my game has been progressing.

Always have been just a tournament guy. Played around with cash a little but never really made an effort improve my cash game. Over the last week I have been running really good on the cash tables on Global. Kinda like it. Sample is too small to know if I am actually any good or just running good. I have never really felt all that comfortable playing live cash but I think I am going to seriously make an effort there too do so. Realistically, If I want to play poker full time and not worry if I have a load on board or not, I will probably have to rely on cash games a bit too.

This may sound weird. I am a 50 year old professional driver and really feel like I have been onboard the ship that is my life as more of a passenger as of late, instead of the driving the damn boat. Keep falling short of my goals and expectations and responding to situations instead of creating and driving situations. Yes Jesus, take the wheel but I am going to give you all the horsepower and efficiency I can muster from this old battleship. If you are wondering, Yes, Jesus loves poker players too!

Well, think I am going to go find a hotel or drive northeast, not sure yet.
