I would really appreciate that! If I could wish I would really like to see a 180man series

jjyykk,

Is there any chance that you will play in the Pokerstars APPT Seoul ME at Walker Hill next month?

APPT Seoul* April 3-6, 2014 Walker Hill Paradise Casino KRW3,000,000 (2,760,000+240,000)

Thats Great! The only way I'd play is to get lucky on the freerolls/satellites. My game definitely needs improvement, lol. Heck, if I did manage to win a seat, I'd give you the ticket for a huge discount/staking? opportunity.

Ref the freerolls- just in case you didn't know already- at WH on Fridays at 5pm they have a step 1 freeroll (10 winners), then step 2's (55,000 won buyin) are on Sundays at 2pm, and Step 3 (330k buyin) is on Saturday at 2pm, and also Sundays at 6pm. You would probably win a free seat to the ME in these soft fields of reg players.

Will you be selling shares? I'd definitely be interested and it would be great to be on the rail rooting you in.

Yeah I'll definitely be selling shares. I think 3k is a bit too much for me to take on my own. the 330 Step 5's sound interesting, I might check those out. Walker Hill is kind of out of the way for me so I'll most likely just end up going there and buying in direct.

I just got an e-mail from Stars, it looks like BOTP is ending so maybe the freeroll I offered is useless? Will think of something else to replace the Saturn freeroll if that's the case.

they still offer the BOTP prizes, just not the freeroll. So you're still in. Unfortunately put up a really low score this week but that's okay.

Breakthrough

So this is my SNG graph this year. In the past 5 days, I'm on nearly a 6k downer from my peak, playing $60-$200 9's, 18's, and Fifty's. At first it was a pretty rough reckoning for me. I actually took the first -1.5k day pretty well, but losing another 1.7 and then another 2.5 today was really disappointing for me.

Most of HS SNG's is about practicing perfect ICM and trying to stay on the good end of variance. My ICM is nowhere near perfect (it's about 70% I'd say since I mix so many games), but I do have a postflop and preflop edge on almost all of the regulars at the $60-$200's. I also see a lot of them make a lot of mistakes so it has been frustrating for me to be such a slave to card distribution and variance.

After my session ended terribly with a lot of "run bad" and bubbles, I had a quick call with my mentor/guru Bigbluffzinc. Initially I was calling him to vent and complain about SNG's. He plays like $200+ 6m hypers and manages a big MTT stable so he's very well grounded. This time I went to the bathroom, came back, heard his wisdom for a bit, and I was done venting. I didn't feel like it was worth any negative energy.

I was about to quit the SNE hunt until I talked to BBZ. I'm putting in 4k+ VPP days consistently now so SNE is definitely attainable. Doing so will require me to simply put my nose on the grindstone without checking ev balances, graphs, or Sharkscopes. People like Pompeii, Claydol, Ruse, Jdawg, and others on 2+2 have shown me that if I want it, I can achieve it.

So today is the day I've decided to become a Supernova Elite. I'm going to keep burning the pace without complaining about downswings. I make enough in MTT's, I'm still up on SNG's for the year after RB, and I'm getting coaching from one of the best SNG players in the world! Plus I met my dream wifey last month and I'm settling in Seoul, truly happy for the first time in a long time.

No more complaints. It starts and ends with me. I'm not allowed any negativity until I perfect my ICM in all my SNG games. Once I do that, I will continue with my yoga and meditation . It's time to focus on being happy and healthy in 2014.

And right after I came to this epiphany, I shipped the 109 Turbo for 10.4k after getting 8th in the Hot 44 yesterday. If BBZ hadn't been available for that Skype call, I would have stopped registering prior to the Big 55 and never loaded those games!

Our first date was the waffle house:

Shipping 10k will certainly help that SNG swong! I myself am in a similar position VPP wise, I make about 4k a day so know just how tough it will be to make SNE. I run into a wall recently in 18 mans and my volume died, such a mental game fish. Always helps to have a guy on side who's been there to help you push through it. GL

GL Jae!
Subbed since the start, but first time I really see your motivation!
Everything starts and ends with ourselves.
Also looking forward to your coaching thread, would really like to book you for some time to improve my 18man game. I think I may try to go for SN being a part time player for now...

I definitely suck way too much in 18's to try to be coaching them. But I'll be working on improving them first. Most of my SNG losses are due to terrible 18m results.

I can post chip ev graphs showing clear run bad but that's not good enough when I've lost 3.8k in 317 games. Time to step it up, maybe starting with the 30's to build a sample and change my finish distribution.

My goals for this week are to hit 100 games played in the $30, $60, and $100 brackets of the Battle of the Planets. I'm going to be churning a lot of $30/18's and 9m hypers to get a better feel for ICM. I've gone back and reviewed a bunch of my 18m games and have found quite a few leaks that I'm hoping to fix.

The silver lining is I'm still up in 18m's for my career due to an extremely hot start to them. I banked a bunch of $ winnings I didn't deserve, so even though I'm having a disgusting 2014 I can still fix it by improving. You can also see that $3,000 of my losses came from just 27 games at the $200's.

I'm starting to realize that the variance in the 18's is pretty insane. The payouts of a $200/18 are 1.3k, 1k, 700, and 300. Often in big MTT's like a 33R, I'll be playing for a difference of like 1.3k in 1st vs 2nd! So big jumps once we get to the final six or something.

Another silver lining is my chip ev graph for the year here:

I am winning at ev bb/100 in these 18m games. I'm just down a ton of chips compared to where I "should" be. However, I think adjusting my approach (playing for a chip lead to adjust my finish distribution) should bump my ev bb/100 much higher, to possible double or triple what I've been doing thus far.

You can see in the numbers that I'm running very far below my ev in a lot of the bubble blind levels (18m's typically have a bubble around t300 or t400), but also that my ev bb/100 numbers are actually negative. I blame this on getting to the bubble with midstacks and having to bend over to bubble pwnage from the chipleaders. I have to fix this and work on becoming a chipleader myself.

It's too easy to blame "running bad" for not winning. It can actually be a hindrance because focusing on the run bad will stop you from improving continuously. The biggest graph swings come from the lowest win rates. If I can bump my true ROI from 1 or 2% to 5 or 6 %, everything will smooth out.

I'm very excited to get to work.

Had a pretty cool Sunday, albeit unprofitable. I had sweats in 3 tournaments with 25k+ for 1st, including a pair of 33k for 1st tournaments in the T-Rex (I got 14th) and the 888 Major (I got 30th).

With this job, you can't really ask for more than having a legitimate shot at big money on Sundays week in and week out. Even the days where I fall short, it builds character.

I started off Sunday about 1.1k in the hole with SNG but I turned it back around and finished with around $400 profit. Have made slight approaches to my game and as far as I'm concerned, my new 18m graph starts today. Aiming for an 8-9% 1st place distribution.

I've realized that in SNG, most of the large mistakes you make come from being a mid or short stack and making incorrect calls. That's the hardest part to study. In hypers, 50's, and 18's alike, it's really hard to make large errors shoving with a big chip lead. In all three of these games, if you have a huge lead, you can actually just monkey smash your TableNinja all in key and not lose too much.

So I want to start building more chip leads

I just talked to my boss at DC (entity) and I'll be making some new videos coming out soon! Posted a thread looking for input on what kind of videos would best you guys:

So I am running a bit above expectation now but part of it is intentional. I've made tangible adjustments to my approach and recently just did this!

It took a while but I think I finally have this SNG thing figured out. Everything has just clicked for me. I'm running above ev in this sample but I believe a lesser version of these results is sustainable. I've been playing significantly different in many key spots after my aha! moment.

Hoping to hold at 1st place in the Uranus low orbit although I doubt that will be the case.

Grind on man! Coming to Wsop this year? Also if your in Vancouver at the beginning of july, you should fly out to Calgary for Stampede (big Cowboy festival.) Tourneys are pretty sparse being only 6 or 7 events ranging from $200-1k but the cash games are insanely good. It would be a fun time I promise.

My man, not sure about WSOP. Won't be in Vancouver then though.

So I've been running a fair bit above EV in a sample of 300 some games since Sunday. I'm starting to develop a theory that taking the chip lead and pushing a ton of hands leads to running above ev, and having to sit on your hands and fold due to ICM leads to running below ev.

For almost all of my database (since 2010), I've been running very far below (this is all Hem1 EV). If this hot run persists, it might be because I've changed my style. We'll see I guess.

I have some exciting news as well I guess. Just started shooting a new series for DC called the Blueprint (or some variant). Basically going to be a sequel to Bankroll Builder focusing on $7/45's and $3R/180's. I'm playing less tables and have a much better format.

I've shot 3 episodes and I think this might be my best series yet. It'll be released soon I think.
