Thanks! Would definitely recommend the Petco round if you get a chance. I live in Chula Vista. Agree the housing prices are insane, it feels like an eternity saving up. Housing market has a lot of gray area right now with Covid going on, hard to predict what will happen in the next 1-2 years.

December Results: +$658.95

Global: -$15

All of December felt pretty breakeven tbh. I didn't game select well and I don't remember a session where I felt 100% in the zone. Kind of expected given that it was a busy holiday month, a lot of extracurriculars were happening. Surprised to see that it was a slightly positive month, and that I was running over EV

Did not study much on the technical side of the game, however I am breezing through the A-game course. Some of the exercises shown I started in my mid 20s and continue to this day, i.e., writing down tasks by the hour. If I don't do this, I don't get anything done and usually leads to a very unproductive, mindlessly wandering day. Excited to implement some other stuff. Also got me pondering if I should look into a IRL hypnotherapist / psychotherapist / therapist to not only help me in poker, but to optimize life as well. We'll see.

---

Played a round with my brothers in town. One of them recently picked up the game, so we wanted to take him out for his first 18-hole. Shot my best round ever comfortably at 83. I say comfortably because I was on pace to break 80 (got 6 pars on the front 9 ), but we were fighting to beat sundown so that led to an optimistic 3 wood shot off a tight lie and a few three putts. No excuses, but yea . Had a handful of birdie looks, couldn't sink one. Highlights: 25-foot slight right to left putt found bottom of the cup to save par. Absolutely blasted a drive on a 372yd par 4, leaving a 50 yd pitch to the flag -- lowlight: ended up three putting for bogey lol. Our previous best was 88 I believe. Could probably shoot in the 70s if I fixed my putting, currently averaging high 30s per round.

Confirmed slow reader, haven't finished the book yet.

2021 started off with a slight downswing, most of it ~10bi on Global. Ironic because I feel like that has the softest pool of the sites I play, however, I didn't exactly play my A-game either. Combined with Ign and WPN I think we're around 4-5BI down for the month, nothing to fret really. Looking to putting in some quality sessions this last week.

Happy with how I am progressing with the mental game. Finished up A-game course and now it's time to look over notes and optimize everything for my situation. Feeling accomplished integrating a solid sleep schedule, workout routine... not really forcing any sessions when I feel like crap after work etc. Working in meditations specifically to chizzle out some detrimental mental programs / roadblocks for IRL stuff that for sure can boil into the poker game.

One thing that I will switch up is how I use up my energy consumption. I used to put in close to a 50/50 mix between playing and studying, but I think I will shift it to more 80/20 to optimize my performance while playing instead. I think my theoretical knowledge is up there but what's the use if you don't implement and execute it correctly? On top of that, the main thing about 100nl is making disciplined folds which I have a problem of when playing my fatigued C-game. So more energy will be spent maximizing A-game and volume. Once we move up to 200nl or even 500nl then we can re-evaluate how energy is spent.

Went to a floating tank the other week with the wife. Pretty cool experience where all lights are shut off, the pod is relatively sound proof, and the water is filled with enough salt to make you bouyant while being warmed to your body temp to deprive all senses and just be with your mind. We both enjoyed it having our parents watch our little one, and finally having some time to ourselves. An hour of floating in pitch black by yourself seemed boring and a little claustrophobic at first but overall it was nice and calming. I started seeing weird shadows, saw myself going through some kind of tunnel, and felt like I was floating in space at times. Don't think it was life changing or anything but would def do again.

Fitted irons should be coming in any day now. Got a driver fitting this Thursday at a Club Champion where they give you a 'tour' fitting but not really committed to buying anything, really going for the experience.

Not a huge sports bettor but put in a few small bets for tonight's fights.

January Results: ~ -$1372

WPN: +$410.61
Ignition: ~-$740
Global: -$1042

Had some trouble importing first half of Ignition HH for some reason... overall results should be close.

Second try to write this post, first one got deleted.

--

Not our best effort in January fellas. Weird one to describe. We felt great mentally in terms of handling bad beats and things out of our control. Mantra was "one hand at a time," and "you can't control what they show up with." Upon a quick review of some HH, we were doing plenty of silly, technical mistakes that contributed to higher, compounding net losses. So grading wise, variance mental game: A. Performance mental game and technical side of game: D. Didn't think that'd be possible, but here we are.

Nothing but a bump in the road. Super optimistic to plug those simple leaks though and to make a big turn around for February.

Increased my total meditation time from 5 minutes to 15 minutes a day. That feels like our upper limit, but still feel the benefits of it so I'll keep it there for the time being.

--

So how did the first blog got deleted? A big part of why the mental game felt great was that we eliminated all distractions. Put the phone out of reach and on silent, deleted all social media (-EV all around anyway), and more importantly installed an extension called 'Impulse Blocker,' where you turn it on and it prevents you from going on any sites that you are tempted to check. Pretty much add sites that'll take away your focus. One of those sites is 2+2. Here's the full list:

You can also pause it for x amount of time during your breaks. Well I paused it for 10min and by the time I finished typing up my post to submit it, the extension timer expired and blocked me from accessing 2+2, I hit refresh and the whole post was wiped out. Total bummer. Extension is overall +++EV though.

New irons came in, aren't they a beaut?

Got fitted for a driver at Club Champion. Total sticker price was over $900 just for a driver. I said no thanks and bought the previous model on my own. Got the custom shaft spec in case I wanted to upgrade into that any time in the future.

What's in the bag?

Cobra SZ 3 wood
Cobra F7 hybrid
Mizuno JPX921 Forged Irons 4-GW

Have the week off so going to take the little one to the zoo tomorrow. She just turned 8 months but she made huge advances in her 7th month including crawling, standing up on her own, being able to eat dissolvable crackers on her own, and she already has two bottom teeth! Parenthood sure is busy, but awesome all at the same time.

Hope everyone's 2021 started off a lot better than mine! Gl all!

We've been absolutely sunrunning the first 2.5 weeks of February. Naturally wanted to maximize our volume after feeling invincible, so we got slapped in the face and came crashing back down to reality the past few days. Overall still a great month and mixing in more 200nl. Going to re-calibrate, pull the anti-Tony Finau and close out the month on a high note.

--

For a little over a month we took on a small project to re-do the in-laws backyard. The lawn was hard as concrete, weeds all over, and generally an eye sore. The space is relatively small (less than 1000 sq ft) but the process itself was more difficult than anticipated. Thought it was as easy as killing the weeds, putting some seeds, water, then magic would happen. We did the following:

1. Water
2. Aerate
3. Cultivate
4. Level
5. Layer with top soil
6. Spread seeds
7. Spread grass food
8. More top soil
9. Lightly rake
10. Layer with peat moss

Steps 1-3 were to loosen up the soil as grass can't grow in super compact areas. Most difficult part was leveling, still a lot of uneven areas but it'll do. And then we gotta rake the whole area to ensure seed + soil contact for the grass to grow.

Never in my life did I ever think I'd be stoked to watch grass grow. And this may be the most dad thing to say BUTTT after several weeks of putting in work and a few bad backs later, I present to you the first signs of our new lawn. LFGGG

We started off the month on absolute fire then around the 10.1k hand mark the poker gods decided to draw a mountain on our graph. Funny how rungood / runbad goes.. you can feel as confident as ever then have the wind knocked outta you in the blink of an eye. It is what it is. One thing to improve on is that when I was in that mini-downswing, I noticed that I didn't incorporate meditation as much into my routine. Missed more than a few days there so subconsciously wanted to put in the grind instead. Other than that really happy with the quality of sessions this month.

Also did a thing where I decided to hire a coach this past month. The loss in January kind of gave me a reality check and let me know that I wasn't maintaining the level of play that I wanted to be at. Trying to have that white belt mentality to stay hungry during the grind and learning new things. In addition, I want to be a winner at mid-stakes by the end of the year. What better way than to have your game dissected and have a plan tailored to you. I know I have it in me, just need a guide especially since I'm not doing this full-time. It's easy to get rusty and fall off the rails more often than not.

Day off today to work / plan out the month. Back at it tomorrow. Gl all.

Hand 1, definite hero fold. BUT, that shove is too big of a value bet, might want to sometimes look them up there.

Hand 2: (disclaimer, I also play on Ignition), if you keep betting a bluff, and they keep calling, they tend to have something. Probably fish material, but after watching some coaching and twitch streams, at least check the river, if not also the turn. Overbluffing river has got me in so much trouble, I have learned the lesson.

Hand 3: why did you check? If you bet, he might have called. Afraid of quads? Edit to add, you would have won the bad beat jackpot if he did have quads.

Hand 2 - definitely feel like this is a spot where you can overbluff but my hand seems okay.

Hand 3 - did you mean turn or river? Turn not too sure what to do but we block a ton of his continuing range. Wasn't afraid of quads but don't really have a donking range after b/xc. He checked back relatively quick so really caught me off guard. Didn't know bodog had a bad beat jp, how high does that thing get?

Uh, I did not know it was bodog, the only bad beat is on Ignition itself. As over Ks beat by four of kind or better.

So if you get a bad beat, or a royal flush, you have 48 hours to email the hand number, table number to support. They issue the goods.

Felt like we did everything right in terms of study, meditation, working out, warming up for a session, executing during a session, and being at peace with whatever the results were. Played 6 sessions (1 hr each) and studied a solid 2 hours. Definitely felt like we were in a flow state for most of it. We still lost a few buy-ins

Recently we've been falling into the trap of trying to play like PIO too much, which is far from the most EV... especially in some of the weaker pools. Adjustments and staying proactive during sessions have been key for us - it helps us play not as robotically. Also brought back some fun instead of being in a mindset where "I must grind x hands to meet y goal by z time." Happy where we're currently at. Must keep that same energy.

--

Took the little one to the zoo again. Saw a Tucan (sp?) fly right past us in the aviary. Looking to book her a swimming class once the weather warms up nicely here, been cold and rainy some days. Also looking for a boxing class for myself and the wife to get us moving again, having an infant really does take up most of our time so them love handles starting to show up.

Hit up the range a couple times this week for the first time in a bit. Didn't think I did much different in terms of my swing but the ball striking with the long irons / long stick were dreadful. Just one of those things where you gotta keep the consistency to stay sharp. 2-3 weeks of not swinging will make you lose all that progress you worked on earlier.

Been feeling good playing all week, the results aren't showing for it though.

And I'm okay with that. Going to keep putting in the work.

Timed down on this decision earlier, think it should've been an easier choice looking back. Thoughts?

3) 0 / $8,693 breakeven in MTTs

Not terrible, not good.. considering we have splitting volume 50/50 between 100nl and 200nl.

Mood started deteriorating the last week and a half or so of March. Felt like we improved a lot but our performance dropped off at the end. Volume was slashed in half but study time increased. Couldn't help but feel unmotivated when we peaked at results when reviewing hands. Not gonna lie, took me a while to make this post because of it. Overall a busy month outside of poker, so that may have contributed.

Not much coming up in April so hoping to increase both study and volume. Getting a bit hotter here in San Diego so maybe poker can catch some of that heat as well.

Grass is coming out nicely in the lawn. Pretty proud of it. Going to give it it's first mow next week. Totally some dad stuff but I guess priorities shift haha.

Think I’m calling unless I have a prior note or hand to sway me otherwise. We have plenty of AX one pair hands we’re folding on the river, so I think if we start pure folding any of our two-pairs on this runout we’re over folding. Villain has the range advantage but I could see AK barreling since we didn’t X/R flop or turn

No prior notes, anonymous pool so readless vs this line I think a fold is ideal but close decision regardless. Even with AK barreling it's about breakeven assuming he does this with enough bluffs.

Late April Update: -$1802.61

WPN/Ign: -$1364.61
Global: -$438

Last month was more of the same as the previous, didn't feel like playing much at all because we were getting absolutely wrecked across both 100nl and 200nl. Thought we were playing decent but just lost in the EV realm. Had to drop down to all 100nl this month.

Overall losing month again but volume was on the very low side past two months at less than 25k hands combined. Not going to cut it if we want to reach our goals.

Also difficult to get my routine down as my little one was teething, so she required a bit more TLC and the sleep schedule was sporadic. Shout out to my wife though as it seems whenever something goes awry she steps up to the plate every time. Life would be def harder w/o her.

---

Had a significant improvement in routine for May thus far as the little one is no longer teething and maybe gets up once in the middle of the night, every other night. We took her to her first swimming class and it went worst than expected lol. We thought there would be some hesitancy and crying but she was full blown bawling her eyes out during most of the lesson. I tried my best to comfort her, and she seemed to be calmer when floating on her back, but overall one step closer to getting her better situated in the water.

Wifey and I have been doing boxing (just hitting the heavy bag) for the past two months. Been great to get out of the house and move around while the grandparents watch our daughter. I’ve been nursing some wrist sprains in both hands. Probably from a combination of improper wrapping / punching too hard. Sometimes I can’t help myself on the latter. Eventually I want to switch over to a mma gym to roll and do *light* sparring and be able to react to things trying to hit back at you.

---

Lawn turned out nice, wife’s parents love the new yard. Seemed to inspire them to do their own planting to revamp the look of the backyard altogether.

Before (all that stuff in the corners were weeds):

After + my buddy enjoying the fresh grass:

---

Study routine back on track, and volume is up. Looking to capitalize on the momentum with the summer months coming. We're already half way through the year and this is not where I envisioned our journey to be. Also with the lackluster amount of hands the past couple of updates, going to try and be a bit more aggro with BRM to shot midstakes by years end.

Gl all!

May: +$1967.37

WPN/Ignition: +$1629.37
Global: +$338

After two consecutive losing months, it's nice to book a winning one. Volume increased, however very subpar at only around 15k (guessing untracked hands)... not where we want to be. Definitely want to get it closer to 30k/month -- overall happy with the quality of sessions that we were able to put in though BUT biggest struggle is maintaining that and having a big drop off after the second hour or so even with a break.

--

Planning to finish up that parenting book pretty soon here as well, as I put that on the backburner when I started/finished up reading Jason Su's poker book. Haven't really tried any of his methodologies out yet so can't really critique on whether or not they're for me, although I did feel some of his points may seem a bit outland-ish. But hey, I'm keeping an open mind and looking for any edge I can gain and will post reviews here once I implement them.

--

One mow of the lawn and there are already bare spots showing, it looked so lush and healthy to start off with. Not too sure why that's occurring.

--

Haven't really touched golf due to the injured wrists from boxing. But I've been wrapping them pretty tight the past couple of sessions and have noticed significant improvement in my wrists. Hoping to get back out to the range soon for some de-stressing and not to have my swing totally out of whack.

--

Other than that, main focuses are still the wife/baby, poker, and work. Her first birthday is coming up, so we were planning to throw her a small gathering at the house with some family, then goto Disneyland the weekend after. The latter is mainly for the wifey and I as an excuse to get out of town. So we're going to try and put in overtime hands this weekend.

Nice month! Still impresses me how you can juggle all these different things at the same time with a newborn, poker, work.

As for H1, jamming AsA feels spewy. You guys are 150BB eff and it's not like you can't have the nuts here, in fact you probably have more nut flushes since he will likely Cbet most of his AXs BDFD on the flop. Also if he really wanted to rep the nut flush OTR, he has so many other AsXo combos to choose from.

Thanks dude, appreciate that. Sometimes I'm a little hard on myself and feel like I should be doing more so always a good reminder to slow down and enjoy what's already there.

Agreed. He probably just thought something along the lines of "oh I have Ax nf blocker so it takes away most of his" but we still have a decent amount and just overall flush advantage. Like you said he'd have to choose one of his AcX combos where even that is a mix, so this is way over bluffing. Maybe he was tilted... demoted him from decent reg to questionable reg nonetheless

Grading: when you overbet turn, and villain calls, You need to change strat.

Maybe check turn, and shove river.

However, villain seems keen enough to know that they have a blocker, or they are complete fish, don't see stats.

I would study that bad boy, because its give up time on river,, as played. You want to play it differently.

My best bluffs have not come from shoving, but betting like I have it and want a call. A. you save money here, B. they generally fold if flush out there, 4 to straight, etc.
