We're live in 3... 2... 1...

Hey guys. Well, the time has come for me to put some serious time into live poker. I recently lost my job, and there happens to be a very popular card house just down the street from where my girlfriend and I moved to. I've been playing live for awhile as a rec player, but have recently been putting in a lot of work on my game. The games here are also crazy soft at all too ess, so I feel like I can have a bit of a normalized schedule.

My bankroll is at $2500, which is relatively low for this endeavor, but i believe I'm a solid enough player that with good game selection. I will be playing $1/$2, $2/$2, and $2/$3 nl, the games have a max buy-in of $80, $150, and $400 respectively. While I'll be playing mostly the $2/$2 game, the $2/$3 game is very juicy from time to time and I will be taking shots when I feel it's appropriate.

I'll be buying in for the max at $1/$2 and $2/$2, and for $200 at $2/$3. If I transfer from the lower limits with chips, I will allow myself to top up with an extra $200, so long as it doesn't go over my buy in limit for the day.

I'm going to be cashing out if I'm ever up $500, or at the 8 hour mark. I will lose no more than $400 in a day. I'll pay myself 1/5 of the take for the day, and add the rest to my bankroll.

I'm gonna be leaving soon for my first session, so we'll see how I do!

Session 1: +$133
Time played: 8 hours.

No real big hands to report. I have found a pretty big leak in my game: I limp behind fairly often with middling hands. I need to tighten up and either raise or fold, limping just makes the game too swingy and is definitely -ev.

Re: We're live in 3... 2... 1...

Scratch that, just thought of one early in the session.

Sitting at $2/$3 with about $500 behind. Hero is in the cutoff with 5s4s. Hand is straddled to $6 and 4 limpers ahead of us, we elect to limp as well. Button calls, SB and BB fold, and we see a flop.

Note that everyone except the button has a stack size of about $170, and the button is at about $450.

Pot: $34

UTG + 1 leads out for $35, lojack calls, hero raises to $150, button calls, everyone else folds.

So my thinking here is that UTG + 1 has been betting all of his flush draws, and I want to shut that down, if anyone wanted to draw it was gonna be super expensive. Not really worried about lojack, he's been on tilt for about an hour and is getting it in pre with nonsense like T7ss, A9o, etc. The button is a solid player and I was kind of worried he'd just jam, but the fact that he just called I was probably ahead and that he had a huge draw.

Pot: $404
Turn: 5h

Hero checks, button checks.

What a ****ty card. Button offered to check it down, I agreed. Maybe a bad move, but there was a lot of money in the pot and my hand was now no better than a bluff catcher.

River: Kh

Largely irrelevant, we check it down and he flips over 5d4d resulting in a chop.

I don't know if I played the hand poorly, what do you guys think?

Session 2:+$323
Time played: 2.5 hours

Short session today, girlfriend needed me to come home. Most of my winnings today came from cracking AA with a set of 6's, so obviously pretty happy about that.

I think I'm a pretty big favorite at these games - there's a lot of action players and degens still going from the night before when I've been showing up. I may have to play Friday and Saturday evenings though, I imagine the action is insane.

Session 3: --$45

Well, this was kind of a disappointing session. After being up about $250, I had to take a break and taxi my daughter around for awhile. I sat back down at the $2/$3 table, and got my money in crazy good, set of 8s over a set of 7s only to be one outed on the river.

There was one interesting hand for the day.

Hero in the cutoff is dealt QhTh. Effective stacks around $550. Folds around to hero who opens to $12. SB calls, BB calls.

Pot: $31 (rake accounted for)
Flop: Ad7h4h

SB checks, BB checks, hero bets $25, SB folds, BB raises to $75, hero calls.

So, leading out here is pretty standard I think. I want to build a decent pot in case my flush hits, and I want to keep the betting lead going into the flop. When the BB raises, I feel like he's on 2 pair or possibly a set. He'd been limp/calling with any ace all day and betting big when he made 2 pair or better. I call here intending to bet any heart that rolls off, and to fold if it's a blank.

Pot: $181
Turn: 2h

BB checks, hero bets $125, BB calls.

So we're good here a majority of the time. I bet that amount just because I thought I could get him to lay down the hands I'd given him a range of. No dice and we get a call, which I don't really hate either.

Pot: $336
River: Ac

BB shoves all in, hero???

Kind of the worst card in the deck for us. At this point I'm pretty sure he's filled up, but he could also just have trips. He just seemed so unafraid of the flush, which means he probably was holding Ah and thought he could flush over flush me if another heart hit.

Are we ever ahead here?
