In a couple of hours I’m going to take a shower (something that I don’t do on the inside) and get ready for weekend number two. I’d like to solicit some feedback from the community regarding a hand which left me befuddled.

Here's some salient game related info. There are vending machines in the pod and as the food served is practically inedible the vending machine dispenses veritable gold. To that end unopened snacks and drinks play for their vending machine value.

Anyways, I'm UTG+1 with Kh6h and everyone limps. The BB checks and we go to the flop. Just to clarify the pot is now $0.18. The flop just looked like money. It came 4h 9h Jh. It was checked to me and I decided to start building a pot as typically everyone calls with anything. I figured that $0.06 times 9 would be a nice little pot sweetener.

Shockingly everyone folded until we got to UTG who tanked, feigned an "Ah ha! I've got this figured out" moment and tossed a snack sized bag of Cool Ranch Doritos ($1.50) across the imaginary betting line. We had effective stacks of $1.92 with villain having me covered. Obviously it was either shove or fold.

Here’s where it gets interesting. The vending machines are normally stocked on Fridays but there was some problem and word was that the machines weren’t going to be stocked until Monday. The vending machine was fresh out of Cool Ranch Doritos and everyone knew it. Furthermore, villain also had a bag of Lays and a Coke. Why bet the Doritos?

I tanked. Now villain and I had no real previous history and villain didn’t fall neatly into a given category. More often than not middle aged white guys tend to be TAG but I’d interpret an abundance of facial tattoos as an indication of aggro? I felt that an over bet in the form of a bag of Lays could well have been in line with a small flush or a set. To me it seemed like he knew that I wanted the Doritos and he threw it out there to try to entice a call.

I eventually gave him credit for the ace high flush and mucked. Am I an idiot or did I make a brilliant play?

I'd also like to take a minute to thank all of those who have posted their valuable insight into the psychology of tells which fall outside the typical range witnessed in Monte Carlo. Those who have posted their support, I thank you.

Others may want to think about exactly why they are on this forum. Is it to learn? To teach? Other? If it's "other" then maybe it's time to re-think?

You guys had your fun

In the very small chance that OP was serious about this thread, B&M isn't a strategy forum.

I think this thread belongs here. Once Lattimer have me mod access to the thread, I put it in the place where it belongs. OP, I know you're not going to see this until tonight, but you are encouraged to continue your story.

Having scampered through all sorts of weird and wonderful environments in my life, this takes the cherry.

I think the rapper's loudness and anger might be a tell of holding a strong hand: he's present (excited?) and wants to win. Or maybe he's having a draw and is rapping his cards on to build into something stronger or more complete?

The white guy seems quite straighforward. Unless he gets lost in his head space, which would make him also pretty unreliable in his tells.

Pops is def the most fascinating of your regs. Would love to hear how his conduct develops

It makes me sad that someone as smart as you thinks that driving high all of the time is a good idea and crashing into fences is no big deal. I hope you were having the time of your life because it sounds like your life is ****ed now because of it. As it should be, if it was up to me I would have come down a lot harder on you for 9 ****ing DUIs. (And I despise tons of things about society, especially the law system fwiw).

That being said, I admire your attitude about the prison card game. Here are my thoughts on the game -

I feel that the rapper gets louder/angrier when hes getting excited. Players usually get excited when theyre about to play a big pot. Players are usually about to play a big pot when they have a strong hand. So Id weigh this towards strength. It might not be strength 100% of the time though because he could get excited about making a big bluff as well. We will need to study his tendencies in the game and get some showdown information to get a more solid understanding of his rapping tells.

My instinct says that our "White Flour," comrad is a bit of an anxious person. When he yells, its probably an indication that hes nervous and is fearful of being put in a difficult situation. For example - he has a draw, sees someone that looks like they want to bet, so he yells "White Flour," instinctively to try and swing them towards a check so he can get a free card. I feel pretty confident about this read. How you play aginst his "White Flour" spouts will depend on what cards you have and what your plan in the hand is.

I donno what to make of Pops. Sure, a lot of level 1 players would come at you with that razor to get you to check. But if Pops is a clever little shark in this game, he could easily be level 2. Jamie-Golding you with the truth, setting up the perfect trap to bust you with his cowboys. Lets just check here and see what unfolds.

Sick spot with the K high flush. It looks like you picked up your own doritos tell and did all of the hard work yourself. Sucks that you have to fold this in a game that takes 12 minutes/hand, Im impressed that you had the patience and confidence in your reads to lay it down. No idea if this was brilliant or stupid but you made a logical decision/read and went with it. Thats a whole lot better than just thinking, "I has high flush, I can never fold."

Ride your bicycle to prison please. Let me know how it goes.

I'm rather surprised no one has picked up on the fact OP said it was his first weekend inside, yet Pop (the games shark,(nice)) asks him for money for a haircut "most weekends"..

The poker situation alone is quite interesting as it's not somehting most of us get to see.

As for the OP's perspective and behavior, my early judgement is that he is a complete fool and the judge should have said even meaner things.

But I'm all for second chances. (and tenth)

Good luck in the game. Do you fear winning too much or is it pretty much under control? I play with a lot of unsavory characters but I don't ever feel uncomfortable.

That paragraph had me rollin! Do you have a good job or something? I don't see why you wouldn't knock out the 52 day sentence in 52 days rather than dragging it out for 26 months. I'm sure you could even get work release.. Anyways good job putting the cool ranch thing together, I think you were spot on lol.. GL
