Title speaks for itself, I won’t be disclosing information about who I am or where I am, but I will be taking my shot at live PLO. I love the game and it’s now or never. PLO will be my primary source of income and I want to start a thread to keep myself accountable and motivate me along the journey. I will be reviewing my weeks, sharing my results, posting some hands and writing about things interest me.

Current status – Small winner at the 1/3 game. I am currently playing 1/3 and have 53 buy-in roll. I withdraw money from my roll for weekly for living expenses. When my roll reaches 75BI’s I will look to take some shots at bigger games.

I will be setting more micro goals along my journey. They won’t be results orientated, but around volume, study, pre-game preparation etc. In saying this, there still are monetary goals I would like to achieve, as listed below.

Long Term Goal / The dream – Be a competent high stakes PLO pro and be rolled to play it.

Medium Term Goal – Be a competent 5/5 player, earning +$50 per hour.

Short Term Goal – Earn +$25 p/hour playing 1/3.

Let the PLO begin!

Week 1 review

I want to rate 3 elements of my game for now – decisions, focus and emotional control. The last 2 session were very similar in all 3 departments. Below is an average rating over the two sessions to review the week:

Decisions: 9/10 – Overall happy with decisions.
Focus: 3/10 – Pretty poor in this department. I see so many players not watching the action when not involved in hands (and I was one of them this week). The emotional swings of players in these 1/3 games changes ranges so much. There was a lot of table talk and conversations that I was involved in. I find it very difficult to concentrate when involved in a conversation.
Emotional control: 9/10 – Was tested the last time I played. Ran well under EV, but continued to play well and not really effected.

Pre game routine

I am pretty big on pre-game routine. Generally my routine will include – exercise of some kind (I feel much better playing 7+ hours session if I have exercised before I go), meditation, evaluating how I feel before my session and writing it in my journal. Every now and then I will include a sauna session.

My exercise is generally consistent but when I went to the gym today, I literally left after 5 mins. I decided to listen to my body, it just feels worn out. Will look to get a good night sleep and go gym in the morning.

Interested to hear in other players pre-game routines and what they think may be very beneficial (or detrimental) ?

Week 2 review

This week the games were the best they have been in a while. Unfortunately I didn’t play my A-game for most of it. In saying that, it’s great to see my emotional control at a higher level, I have seen a lot of improvement in this aspect of my game. Continued to struggle with focus at the beginning of the week, although this did improve as the week went on.

I made a couple of bad decisions this week. Some included, playing some more speculative hands that I don’t usually play, not noticing Villain had topped up his stack before a hand, not spending enough time with certain decisions and putting villain on ranges. Will be looking to make improvements to this over the next week.

Week 3 review

Played fairly well throughout the week. Emotions have slightly affected me but quite minimal. Have been going over hands with some players and haven’t bothered posting them on here. Will be looking to start posting some hands moving forward. My volume has been pretty standard. Study has picked up but not the level that I want it to be.

On a more personal/feelings note, one thing that has strangely started to bother me is some people’s reaction to me spending so much time in a casino. I wouldn’t usually care but this has made me feel a bit uncomfortable over the last week. I generally try to avoid telling people, but sometimes it’s unavoidable. Just strange that I haven’t felt like this before.

Nice thread.

Are you playing only 1/3 PLO? I am hoping to be playing live for income in the upcoming months.

Also your winrate is quite high. What would you say accounts for this? Better than average games, your style, or just positive variance.

Any other advice or comments would be appreciated

Yes only 1/3 at the moment. I would say just positive variance. I have gone through much longer stretches with a much lower win rate. 100 hours is only about 2000 live hands . . . . which is a lol sample size.

In saying this, the games have been much better than average. I would also presume my game is improving.
