July Summary:

July ended up being our first negative month of the year! It wasn't too bad as the loss was only 3 figures. Even though we started off July & the Blog with the MGM NH trip which went well but our home turf wasn't as friendly to us for July. (WE DID WIN $500 PROMO THOUGH so we're almost even )

Played a solid 65 hours which I'm very happy with. (Working full time sux) I don't plan on getting this many hours in every month but if I do i'm definitely not going to be upset.

I know I didn't mention much about how the year has been going but I'll give a few quick stats for 2017.

Hours: 419
BB/hr: 9.9

On pace for about 600 hours this year which I'll take! If i can somehow get to 700 that would be amazing as ill have a few weeks of from work coming up, but that's a dog to happen for sure.

Gonna throw up last nights session review shortly!

AK.....Not So Strong?

One of the most infamous hands in holdem.....Actually I'll just let the days HH do the talking.

It's Saturday night at the Sun. I'm in a pretty good game all day, definitely can't complain. We're down a few BB's when we look down at A J OTB. After two limps, a young asian who I've never played with before makes it 25 from MP. One player in the field calls, I call, the BB calls and so do the 2 limpers. We see a J T 2 flop and it checks to the original raiser who bets 75. I call, and so does one of the limpers after me. The turn is the A bringing the second flush draw out. It checks to the original raiser once again who bets quite small, 160. We jam for 410 total, the limper folds, and villain calls. The turn is the 6 and we lose to JJ.

The very next hand we are given AK in the CO. The same villain opens to 20, and gets one caller. We make it 85, a perfect spot to get a big hand as it looks like we're tilting. V who stacked us last hand makes it 220. It folds to me and we stick it in the middle, figuring this could be very wide. He insta calls and AA holds against us. (whoops)

Stuck about 1200, two orbits later we pick up AK OTB. A middle aged losing black reg raises to 20 UTG and gets two callers in the field. We make it 100. A short stack in the BB shoves for 131 total. The original raiser calls. One player in the field tanks for about a minute and shoves for 279. I call, and so does the original raiser. The flop comes 333 (lol) I have 221 left and shove it in against the original raiser who covers me. He calls and the board runs out 6 T I don't obviously love this board, but I start to feel okay when nobody wants to flip over their cards. I show AK and the 131 short stack, and V who covered me muck. V who covers me flashes AQ Al right, so at least we scoop the 442 side pot! The villain who shoved for 279 and is eligible for the last two pots with me looks down at his cards, turns them over and shows T4 Somehow, he scoops the 1k in the middle after managing to shove with his hand and we lose some money on this lolhand as well. Interesting to say the least.

We're stuck a bit less when we pick up AK for the final time of the night in the form of AK A MAWG recreation makes it 20 over one limper from MP. There's one caller and we make it 100 from the CO. Only the MAWG calls and we see a flop of 679 He checks and we check back. The turn is the 6 and he checks to us again. We decide to check back and see a 7 river. After he checks for a 3rd time I decide to bet small, 115 hoping to get an A off a chop, as it doesn't seem like he has much. To my surprise he quickly calls and shows QQ and owns me pretty hard.

Wish we were able to get much of anything going but it was a rough session. Back at it this weekend! GL all.

Thanks acid! Loving the Europe trip you got going on right now (minus the rake) Are the games good enough to overcome the 25 max rake??

If you get a chance to come to the states for poker again I would definitely recommend Florida (for the weather + poker) and vegas obv.

Mohegan Mayhem

Played a marathon 11 hour session today. Games happened to be better than average so we decided to stay a bit past our bedtime. Definitely going to hurt the regular weekday sleep schedule but it was worth it.

In our first interesting hand we make it 25 to go in MP over a limper with KJ. We get two callers in the field as well as the limper and we see a QQ3 flop. It checks around and we see an awesome K I think this is an interesting spot after the limper checks to us. There are obvious merits to betting, but we decide to check and try to get value on the river, and it checks around again. The river is there 8 and after the limper checks a third time we bet half pot, 50, for value. We get one caller who mucks and we pick up the pot. I think these single raised multiway pots are so important to look st as they are the epitome of the live games. I'd love to hear comments on this hand as I feel like we could have done something different on all streets.

We dwindle back down to 100bbs when we play a pot against an older gentleman reg who covers us. We find J J in MP and open it up to 20. We get one caller and then V makes it 75. We flat and the other player folds. The flop is the amazing :K J 3 we check hoping to raise and v fires 225. Bingo! We decide we don't want to flat and ship it for 344 more. His 3bet range is quite tight and therefore we thought getting over 2-1 he's call here with AA or AK. We ship in. He tanks for over two minutes, does the whole I'm sorry speech for taking quite long, and folds

Later on in the night we pick up A6 in the HJ and open up to 20. A gentleman who I've been playing a ton of pots with (because he's playing 90/5) and has run it up to 1500 calls. We go heads up to a 75 2:spade flop. We lead for 30 and he calls. The turn brings the 8:spade giving us an open ended and the NFD. We lead again, this time for 60 and he quickly calls. The turn is the interesting 9 giving us the straight. I check and he bets 130. I quickly call and his Q 7 is good and we lose a pretty decent sized pot.

We try to turn things around when a younger player who we have never played with open to 20 in MP. It folds to us as we 3bet to 65 on the button with 87 I have not been getting out of line at all and I felt it was a good spot for a 3b bluff. He calls and we see a 7 A Q our opponent check/calls 70 and we see the gorgeous 8 turn for bottom two. He checks, and we bet 175. He tank/ships for ~400 total. The river is the 3 and we announce 2 pair. A few guys say "oh you have AQ". Not quite... but we scoop anyways.

In our final interesting hand we play a hand against one of the few thinking players at the table. We open to 20 7 handed UTG+1 with AK and get a caller. The villain on the button makes it 75 and we decide to just call. I had just 4b this villain with this same hand a few orbits ago(although he doesn't know obv) and decide to switch it up. The flop is A 7 5:spade. I check and he checks back.

The turn is the 5 and although I feel like I'm way ahead I don't see merit in betting as I'm not sure what would call that's worse. He'd bet an A on the flop, so I feel like he has 99-KK here. I check again and he checks back. The river is the J and we lead for 100. He raises to 325 and I call quickly as I feel our hand is super underrepresented. He turns over JJ and we lose that one.

Overall it was a great game, and a big win for us to turn around our mini-downswing. GL on the tables all!!

Also..... forgot to mention but we'll be on the road the next two weekends playing away from our home, Mohegan Sun. Next weekend the WSOPc is coming to Foxwoods so I'm hoping to jump into some 5/10 and some hopefully good games. The weekend after we're headed to Miami for a week so that should be a good time. I've been checking Bravo recently and Hollywood Hard Rock seems to always have a 5/10 or two going and like ten 2/5 games. Should be a good time.

5/T In The Woods

With the WSOPc at Foxwoods, there was a certain magic in the air that was not usually there. Also something that never happens, 5/T games running! After about an hour waiting we finally get seated right as the second game is called, so we take our seat in the main game.

We get our first interesting hand when we overlimp 9 8 in the HJ after two limpers. The BB checks and we see a 57 Q flop. The BB leads 20, one of the limpers in MP calls, and we call. The turn is the 8 improving our hand, and the BB checks. The limper makes it 55 and We call, along with the BB. The river is the 4 and it checks to me. We bet 130 and both players fold.

Shortly after, we make it 55 with J J The BB and 2 limpers call. We see a flop of T 5 7 and a recreational limper makes it 100 after the BB checks. I feel like our only option is to call, and we do so. The turn is the 5 and he leads for 150. Once again, a pretty standard call and we see a J river. He bets 200. We shove for 700 total and he folds. I don't think we needed the J but it was a welcome sight regardless.

A few hands later we raise K T in the CO over one limper to 45. We get 3 calls, the BTN, BB, and the limper. We see a flop of QT3 and the flop checks through. The turn is the 7 and we decide to bet after the BB and limper check to us. The BTN raises to 250 and everyone folds.

We stay in the action when we are dealt 88 in the SB. UTG raises to 35, gets 3 callers in the field before we call, and the BB calls as well. I make a quick prayer for an 8 and it seems that someone heard me as the flop comes 8 J 3. I check planning to raise this draw heavy board and the original UTG raider bets 150. One of the callers comes along and we make it 550 in the SB. UTG folds quickly and unfortunately after thinking about it for awhile the other player folds as well. Either way, we'll take the pot.

In our final action packed hand of the day, there is a raise to 50 from MP and a call from the CO and SB. We make it 220 with Q Q and the orig raiser, and SB call. The flop is 9 4 9. The SB checks and we continue to the tune of 345. Both of the players call and we are playing a bloated 1700 pot, when the A comes on the turn. The action checks through and we are disappointed when the SB shoves for 1300 on the blank 5 river. Unfortunately we can't spike another river boat and lose this pot.

Another round of action tonight. Good luck out there folks!

Some good nom

One last 'home' game before the trip

Flying out to Miami on Wednesday to play some poker in SoFla. Super excited and ready to go, but before we do that we had to get one more session in at our 'home' casino.

In our first interesting hand we raise AA in MP to 25 over 2 limps. The SB and the two EP limpers call. We see a flop of T65 Everyone checks to me and we bet 75. Only the SB calls. The turn brings the 4 and our opponent checks. We wager his last 266 dollars and he calls with 75 and we have to fade 13 outs. Unfortunately we can't as the river comes the 7 and we lose a decent sized pot in what would prove to be the theme of the night.

I did not get to mention that the game was actually insane. There was a maniac raising 90% of hands to 10-25x pre. In this hand he makes it 50 from the HJ. We call on the button with A 5. The flop comes A K 4 and he leads out for 50. We call and see a Q on the turn. He checks and we check back letting the maniac hang himself as he loves to do the betting. The river isn't so lovely, the T but the plan was to call once he checked turn. He leads for pot, 200. We snap and we scoop.

A few orbits later we see a raise from UTG to 30, with two callers in the field including maniac. The SB also calls and we bump it up to
140 in the BB with red KK Maniac who is OTB and one field player call. The flop is the gross J98 but we still fare to be ahead a lot. We bet 150 and both gentlemen call. The turn is the Q and we check. The player in MP is all in for 25 and the maniac calls and so do we. The river is the 5 and we check. Maniac bets 300 into a dry side pot and we let it go. TT scoops and maniac had 85o for two pairs. (Lol)

Later on in the day we look down at 88 and make it 40 after the maniac limps in EP. 3 players call including maniac and we see a flop of T 8 7. Maniac checks and we make a huge mistake not realizing the situation. The player directly behind us has 123 total and we bet 80. Sure enough, he shoves for 123 and we,re forced to only call after maniac folds and another player calls as well. The turn solidifies this error as is brings in the 6. No longer loving this situation we check and so does the player behind. The river is the J and it goes check check only to see us lose to JJ. Definitely one I'm going to remember.

Excited to play in some new rooms this week! GL on the tables.

Cool thread man, what kind of accommodations and how much is that going to cost for SoFla? Also, let's say you went for a week to play 2/5 500 (unless they play deeper?), how much of a BR would you bring?

Not OP obviously, but been on lots of trips. I think if its a capped 100BB BI, I'd bring 6k for $2/$5 if you're staying for a week and playing daily.

IMO I think bringing quite a bit more than you might lose in a week helps mentally if you've had a rough few early sessions.

It really sucks if you bring 3k say, run really bad/ undergo a downswing and only have 3BI left or whatever - I think even if you have a really good mental game it's difficult to not unconsciously alter the way you play in that state.

What's up! Thanks for the kind words.

This is how this trip looked for me. I think it would be harder to spend less but I'm sure you could if you try hard enough. I hate spending money and try to save everywhere I can.

Flight - $145 round trip NY to Fort Lauderdale (lol spirit airlines) so you only get one backpack, no checked bag or carry on.
Hotel - $450 6 nights one block from North Beach Miami.
Rental Car - $250
Food/Gas/Fun - $300 is what I'm expecting.

As for bankroll I think the boys nailed it, although for only one week I think you'd be alright brining a little less, 4-5k for 2/5 100bb unless the below is true, then bring more.

~1100 for a week of fun seems reasonable... seeing as it's Miami. I'm down here with my personal photographer (girlfriend) so she's got 1/2 the hotel and some smaller costs so it's not quite as much. So, I guess if you can come down with someone that always helps.

Hopped off the plane ready to go at 2:00, although quite tired. Like the true defense we are, we grab the rental car and head straight for the Hard Rock Hollywood. (In our defense, it's on the way to the hotel!) The lady sits at 1/2 and we hop onto a 2/5 (1000 max here!)

The first interesting hand we play we squeeze A8 OTB to 75 after a player who is opening too much raises to 15 from MP and gets two calls. We see a flop of KJT and it checks through as I decide not to continue here. The turn brings a plethora of outs, the 9. The original raiser leads for 200, player in between folds and we call. The river is the 4 and we insta muck after villain bets 300.

Stuck early, we try to recoup a bit when we raise T T from EP to 20. The two loosest guys at the table call behind and we see a flop of
J74 the flop checks through and we see the J turn. I check, the player in between bets 25 and other v calls. We call as well and see a K river. I check again, the same v bets 65, making the player in between fold. We call and are good.

I also manage to flop top set on T74 and my flop 1/2 pot bet manages to get no action after the flop goes 4 way.

The final interesting hand comes when I limp 98 OTB. They're the same color so they're basically suited. We see a flop 5 way of K 7 T. The player from the first hand (the spot at the table and VPIPing 60+%)who limped EP wagers 25 and I call along with the CO. The turn is the interesting 6 it checks to me and I wager 75. EP player raises to 175, other player folds and I decide to call. The river is the K and he checks to me. I should have checked back as I'm not sure what worse hand I get called by looking back, but I bet 200 and he snaps with Q5

We lose a small bit on the session but it was time for some fun! Walked around South Beach for awhile, and had some delicious food. The lady had some of the best Tacos I've ever tasted from a place called Mango's, and I had a Cuban which was pretty good but expected better as they had claimed its world famous. Took some cool pictures and saw some cool things!

Hope you enjoy

Lovely pics as per usual keep em coming sir!

For the hands,
A8dd I do think we can bet 1/3 pot or similar OTF with position vs 2 opponents. Yes its a little wet, but think all the PPs, suited connectors and god knows what else fold. We also get to realise our equity for really cheap if we pick up any draws on the turn like we did (would check back 100% of turns basically).

TT I'd just bet myself OTT and probably river as well but as played work out well!

98o Pre, flop and turn super standard for me. I think its thin but I'd still bet basicaly same amount you did if the games play quite wild (as they seem to do from your hhs) and not overthink it too much.

Looking forward to the next lot, Florida next on my personal list I think! Tempted to forgo LA this fall and do SoFlo myself
