St. Foxwoods Day

The weekend is back, and that means it’s time for the Pokers. Decided to switch it up and go “down the road” so to speak from home base and go to Foxwoods. Saturday night + fake holiday brought upon some decent action.

In our first interesting hand we look down at ATravelling & The Live Midstakes QTravelling & The Live Midstakes in the BB. There’s an EP limp, an MP limp, and the SB raises to 20. We flat in the BB, and both limpers come along. You could definitely make a case for 3betting, and probably should. We go to a flop of ATravelling & The Live Midstakes QTravelling & The Live Midstakes QTravelling & The Live Midstakes. Everyone is just about 100bb deep and the pot is already pretty bloated. We bet 25, and the EP limper calls. Other two fold.

The turn is the 6Travelling & The Live Midstakes and this time we fire 85. villain quickly calls and we see a 4Travelling & The Live Midstakes on the river. We jam 386 total, and villain ends up making the call. We scoop and are off to a good start.

Next up. UTG +1 makes it 25 to go, and we pick up QTravelling & The Live Midstakes QTravelling & The Live Midstakes in the CO, and flat. Dynamic was there was a recreational in the BB who you want in pots. Everyone behind ends up folding and we go to a flop of TTravelling & The Live Midstakes7Travelling & The Live Midstakes3Travelling & The Live Midstakes. Villain continues for 35 and we call. The turn is the 8Travelling & The Live Midstakes and villain bets again, 85. We call again and see the 4Travelling & The Live Midstakes on the river. He checks and we decide to go for value; 105. He makes the call and shows us the bad news, KTravelling & The Live Midstakes KTravelling & The Live Midstakes

Later on, we look down at KTravelling & The Live MidstakesTTravelling & The Live Midstakes OTB and make it 25 to go over two limpers. The BB and the limpers call and we go to a flop of KTravelling & The Live Midstakes5Travelling & The Live Midstakes4Travelling & The Live Midstakes all three check to us and we decide to check back. The turn comes the 6Travelling & The Live Midstakes and after the BB checks, a limper bets 60. We call and the BB calls. The river is the TTravelling & The Live Midstakes and BB checks again. Limper villain bets out again, this time 200. (300 behind) we only call, bb folds and we’re good against a turned two pair. Got lucky there.

All in all was a good trip. Ended up getting in a session on Sunday as well. Will write about that session later.

small win!

Sunday-not-so-Funday

Back at the Sun For some Sunday action. Played in one of the worst games I’ve played in in awhile. As a result, only put in 4 hours. There was only one table for most of the time, and when the second table opened up it hardly looked any better. Most chips I’ve ever seen, and there was a period of two orbits where we saw one flop. Obv it was heads up. Grateful to have come out with a decent profit anyways.

First up, we have a UTG limp, and a MP raise to 15. The BTN calls, and we make it 65 to go with QTravelling & The Live MidstakesQTravelling & The Live Midstakes in the BB. UTG limp calls the 3bet, original raiser folds, and BTN calls. We go 3 way to a flop of 7Travelling & The Live Midstakes 4Travelling & The Live Midstakes 3Travelling & The Live Midstakes. We lead for 95, and UTG jams for 250 total. BTN folds, we call and hold on a 2Travelling & The Live Midstakes KTravelling & The Live Midstakes runout.

Next up, we pick up KTravelling & The Live MidstakesKTravelling & The Live Midstakes in the SB and make it 25 over a limp. The BB and limper both call. We see a flop of QTravelling & The Live MidstakesTTravelling & The Live Midstakes4Travelling & The Live Midstakes and lead for 45. The BB quickly makes it 125, (300 behind) and limper folds. We call and see the 9Travelling & The Live Midstakes on the turn. We check, and the BB checks it back. The river is one of the worst cards maybe in the deck, the ATravelling & The Live Midstakes. Luckily, it goes check check and we win.

The final, and most interesting hand of the day happens when we make it 25 to go OTB with KTravelling & The Live MidstakesQTravelling & The Live Midstakes (1500) over a limp. The SB (1300) and limper call. We go three way to a flop of 7Travelling & The Live Midstakes6Travelling & The Live Midstakes5Travelling & The Live Midstakes the flop checks through and we see the 5Travelling & The Live Midstakes on the turn. SB checks, the limper bets 30 and we decide to call. SB calls as well and we see the 2Travelling & The Live Midstakes on the river. This time, the SB leads for 75. MP folds, we make it 205, and villain insta makes it 475.

River raise too thin?

Gl on the tables all.

reads on the sb? initially I thought it was for sure a raise/fold, and that is most likely what I would have done on the spot - but thinking about it more, it may be a flat (and I love thin-value more than anything).

The KK hand when BB flats you pre and then raises you on that board, even though it is not that draw heavy, why not click it back on flop?

Agreed. That's what we did.

Spoiler:
V later said he had 77

He was for sure a recreational. Seemed like he way playing too many hands, but every time he went to showdown they were legitimately played hands, so he was likely on starting hand heater. Regardless, I've seen a bet/3bet on the river be a bluff at 2/5 literally 0 times. Hard to put him on a worse value hand too.

Definitely thought about it, but don't see the merit? Even the best hand we beat, AQ should be folding if wwe do that (imo). So it seems like we just get rekt by better, or he folds? He was an older reg. Rarely, but capable of getting OOL.

You should have sat in the 1-2 PLO game running on Table 41 Sunday, instead.

Best game at the sun in awhile. Two big stacks $1,200 and maybe $2,000 when I sat down around 1 p.m. had been playing since Saturday evening. Every pot was raised or three bet pre. One pot ended up being a 4 way all-in on the flop with around $4,000 in the middle.

It was 100 times better than the 2-5 game you were sitting in.

agree 100%. I looked over and it looked awesome + it was short for awhile so that's even better. I need to hop in there next time, esp if the 2/5 is as bad as it was on Sunday.

Made the trip to one of our neighboring states: Pennsylvania for the weekend. It was a fun time of getting wrecked, and ultra slow rolled (twice) which was a nice kick in the groin. Nothing not to be expected though in the lovely world of live Poker!

First up was Parx, on Saturday night. In our first interesting (lol) hand we open Q Q to 15 from the CO. Only the BB calls who plays almost every hand. We see a flop heads up of T25 and he checks. We bet 15, and he calls. The turn is the A and this time he leads for 15. We make the call and go to the 6 on the river. Once again, he leads for 15. We call and are good against 33.

Next up, we open 88 from the HJ, and the BTN, BB both call. We go three ways to a flop of 764. The SB who seems to be tilting after losing a bunch of mid size hands leads for 35, and we make the call. The BTN also calls and we see the A on the turn. This time, SB checks, and we check as well. The BTN bets 150. SB folds, and we call. The river is the J and we sigh check/fold to the 275 wager on the river.

Next up, the villain from hand one limps UTG, we make it 25 to go OTB with J T. The SB, and villain call. We go three way to a flop of J87. SB checks, and villain leads 25. We call, and the SB folds. The turn is the 3 and we bet 45. He calls and we see the 9 on the river. This time, villain leads for 90. We jam 360 eff, and he thinks for 10 seconds and calls. We roll over our hand, and after looking at the board, our hand, and a few more times, he rolls over the nuts; QT.

As if it couldn’t get any worse, we open A A to 25 from MP. HJ flats (playing nearly every hand and way overly aggro)

We go heads up to a flop of 942. We check and decide to let him blast off. He complies and bets 35, and we call. The turn is the T and we check call 50. The river is the J and we check call 75. To our horror, he rolls over KK, and saves himself a good chunk by flatting pre O_o.

Last up, we pick up the good old A A:spade in the BB, and raise to 25 after one limp.
AdAs BB. The flop comes 456 and we bet 30. He calls and we see the T on the turn. This time, we bet 90, and calls: the river is the 8 and we check. He jams for 290, and we sigh fold :/

Didn’t go so great on the felt. Sands Bethlehem update coming tomorrow

PA Weekend: Part II (Sands)

Was going to do a normal write up, but I think the below HH should speak for itself, and basically how the year is going

One limp before us in EP, we overlimp 33 in HJ. The CO makes it 25 to go. SB, BB, limper and I all call.

5 way to a flop of 872
Flop checks through

Turn 3

SB checks
BB leads 55 (800 behind)
EP limper calls
We make it 215

Original raiser and SB fold.

BB calls
Limper jams 500
We rejam 855 eff
BB dialogue “ughhhh really?” (20 seconds later) “ah man, how much is the sidepot gonna be?” (20 seconds later) “guess I’m gonna get it in bad”. Finally calls and the board runs out the 9

EP limper shows 22, we show 33, and tank/slowroller shows 88 for the nuts OTT. Nice set over set over set with a side of needle and slowroll.

Fun times. Had to say goodbye to this guy:

gl all and may you avoid the slowrolls.

Quarterly Update:

Played much less volume so far this year as opposed to last year. Most of this is because I tend to cut my sessions short when I'm losing, as I don't feel like I do a good job continuing to play my A game most of the time. Something definitely I'm working to improve on going forward. Sticking in the game even when stuck a bunch (as long as mentally with it)

Anyways here's a snapshot. Small dent from our recent sunrunning spree. Feel ok about my play over the quarter, but I'm not playing A+ poker, something which should be easy to do as someone who is not putting in fulltime poker hours. For example, in my last session I bet/called river with two pair on a KQJxx board again a villain who hadn't played a hand, or made an aggressive action in two hours. Not acceptable. (Note: They're not playing back at you - it's always the nuts. (it was the nuts))

Hours: 137.5
BB's won: -791

In some future news: I'm pleased to say that I'll be hitting up California for the first time in my life! The plan is to do 3 nights in San Diego, and 4 in LA.

In addition to sightseeing, and enjoying the weather; the plan is to hit the following casinos:

Seven Mile
Ocean's Eleven
The Bike
Commerce
Hollywood Park

There are a few other places I may go and try out, but if I get those 5 I'll be happy. Of course gonna try to make LATB happen, but we'll see when the May schedule comes out.

May 15-22

I would bet that not playing your A game is more a function of being bored than it is your concern of winning or losing during a session. When I learned the game I never tilted early on because the game held my interest and I was constantly learning. The worse the downswing the more learning I had to do.

Now that you've seen every situation and you know what to do probably 90% of the time, it means you're not learning, you aren't keeping your mind busy and are prone to tilt.

Go play a mix game on your Cali trip. The games are softer, the games are more interesting, and I would bet you can make more money playing a midstake mix than you can grinding 2/5 and 5/10.

I never really considered that it could be boredom. I see your point. Also, if I’m able to find any type of mix I’m 100% in. Would be great to break up to monotony of NL.

April Turnaround:

It’s the fourth month of the year and we’re on the hunt for our first positive month of the year. Seemed like the rungood from last year (won 11/12 months) would never go away. But, once again the month got off to a slow start.

Our first session of 4 hours at the Mohegan Sun didn’t go in the direction we’d hoped. Didn’t make too many hands, and I wish I had anything fun to report about that session but we lost 23bbs. Very exciting. But the games got bad, and we headed next door to Foxwoods.

In literally the first hand we get when we sit down we raise A J to 25 from the CO over two limpers. The SB, a VIP we have played with many times before calls from the SB and the EP limper comes along as well.

We go three ways to a flop of KQ3. The flop checks through and the 2 on the turn. SB leads for 60 and the limper folds. This bet from him doesn’t mean much, so we make the call. The river is the 2 and he leads for 140 this time. We snap it off for a few reasons and are good against T 5

Next up, we open up AK to 20 from MP. The HJ thinks for a bit and 3bets to 60. We flat and go heads up to a flop of 636. We check, and villain bets 75. We make the call and see the Q on the turn. And we check again. He checks and we see the 9 it goes check check again and we lose to T9.

Next up, the straddle is on and this time it’s our turn. We straddle, there’s a limp, and the BTN raises to 40. We look down at T9 and make the call, and the limper comes along as well.

The flop comes AQ6. We check, the limper checks and the BTN fires for 70. We call, and the limper folds. The turn is the K giving us more outs. We check and this time the BTN fires 130. We decide to call again, thinking there shouldn’t be much fold equity as our villain has been playing quite tightly. The river is the T, not quite the out we were hoping for. We check, and villain checks back. Miraculously, we roll over our hand and it’s good. River seems like a good spot to bluff maybe?

Last up, there’s two limps and we overlimp 87 OTB. We go 4 way to a flop of 9T6 BB checks, and EP limper leads for 10. MP limper folds and we raise to 35. BB folds, and the original bettor calls. The turn is the J and this time he leads for 50. This kind of took me aback, and we decided to just call. The river is the J and he leads for 100. Not loving this spot at all, but there’s no shot we can fold imo. We call and lose to 66.

(fold pre most likely. Gameflow and game conditions made this seem less and because a ton of $$ was flowing into the middle in this game. We’re OTB and can maybe win big pots if we connect.)

Anyways, we booked a solid win this weekend. Happy with my play and good to not just get run over every hand.

gl on the tables all!

One more. This hand was played with the same villain from the T9 hand that we somehow won.

Villain opens UTG 20
We flat QQ
Player behind us calls.

Flop (60) J73
UTG 45
We call
Player behind folds.

Turn (150) K
UTG 125
We call

River (400) 9
UTG 250

Before playing that T9 hand in a vacuum seems like a super easy fold. How would you alter your approach after that hand?

Could have gone for 3b. This dude was seriously a rock though, (15/10) type stuff. UTG I'm not sure how great even QQ is doing. Also plenty of bad players behind we don't want to drive out of pot.
