Connecticut Legalization

As some of you may already know, Connecticut recently put in the approval for online gambling here in the state. That, coupled with recreational marijuana legalization really switched things up in 2021. Quite happy about both for many reasons. At this time poker is quite low down the list, and any information I find is sparse and says early 2022 potentially, with no news on state partnerships. Anyone know more?

In terms of betting, I got in a session this weekend and the talk around Mohegan Sun is that betting will be operational online and in person in the next few weeks. Awesome! Speaking of said session, I’ve had plenty of boring ones recently. This one, however got interesting immediately.

We’re about an hour in when there’s a limo to us from EP and we look down at 8 8 . We make it 20 from the CO, and the BTN, limper call.

We go to a flop (60) of 4 4 2 . One check and we continue for 35. The SB, who is a younger right type that u have not seen before, makes it 85, and limper folds. Obviously not folding here. I have been cbetting at a high frequency and I feel like this villain has move potential. We call and see a turn of

(230) 9 . This card shouldn’t change much so we have a straightforward call of 125 when he makes the wager.

River (480) 5 he doesn’t let up here, and wagers 200. This one actually made it a bit more confusing for me. Probably overthinking it, but he bet 200 off a 300 stack which kinda made it look super valuey. I feel like a jam and we have a snap. Anyway, we don’t take too long. I tell him my hand is not great but I don’t trust him and we call. He mucks and says we’re good, and we are.

Shortly after that the run good continues, we get it in pre with A K for 350 against A K . Flop two clubs, and get there on the river

Up ~1k and feeling pretty it gets pretty boring until about 1 hour before we have to go. We open to 25 over an EP limp from the HJ with A T . The BB calls (700) we cover) and the limper folders, and we see:

Flop (55) K Q J . BB leads out for 25, and we raise to 90. He quickly calls and we go to a

Turn (235) 5: spade: . BB decides to lead again, this time for 100. We jam, and get a pretty quick call.

River (1400) 7 . I immediately think this card is very bad for us, and it is proven right when he quickly flips J T for the flopped SFD.

One more fun hand.. line check?

EP open 15, we 55 with Q Q . from CO. BTN 135, folds to us and we call.

Flop (275) : 8 6 3 we check call 100

Turn (475) 3 goes c/c

River (475) T goes c/c

Thoughts? Also any fantasy footballers, let me know your teams! This will be my 15th year playing/gambling on FF. Let’s hear them!

Thank you all and gl!

Las Vegas

Trips to Las Vegas are always special to me. My 2021 annual trip was a tad extra special as my wife and I got married at the Neon Museum at the end of September.Travelling & The Live Midstakes Don’t have any pictures on my phone unfortunately but hope to dig some up at some point, it was freaking awesome!

A few other highlights of the trip:

Hells Kitchen:

Circa:

After about a week of hanging out with friends and family, we got some time to ourselves for the last few days and got a little bit of poker in.

Lost small overall in cash, playing a mix of PLO and NL. I’ve been studying more than playing this year due to a mix of being to busy to make it out as well as COVID, but feel like my study overall has helped me improve and feel comfortable in the PLO games. Looking to play a lot more PLO in 2022. Played mostly at the aria due to there being multiple games and during WSOP lists are always crazy.

One hand from the NL streets is still bothering me. 2/5:

One limp, we raise A Q from the CO to 25. BB, limper call.

Flop (75) Q 6 5 .

Check, check and we fire 40. BB calls and limper folds.

Turn (155) T

Check, we fire 85 and bb calls.

River (320) 2

bb leads for 165. We make the fold and he shows us a missed FD. Wp by him, just not used to seeing it often.

Played one other hand sad hand where I can usually fold, but euro reg sits down and a few hands into his first orbit and triple barrels a dry T high board in a 3 bet pot. We were both 1k eff and he got it all JJ vs AA.

Did have one session that saved the cash overall due to a businessman/crypto guy (obvious millionaire) dropping ~5k over a few hours just having a good time. We all had a good time, great laughs and a few beers. That’s what live poker is all about!

Last but not least, played my first WSOP event, day 1A of the Reunion. Likely to be one of my last tournaments though - absolutely hate them. Between breaks every ****ing 30 minutes it felt like, and the agony of plying 12 hours and basically bubbling while being card dead - made for a horrific experience. We tried hard though!

Will have a 2021 wrap up pretty shortly. I’ll be updating more often as I start to get some more sessions in. Also been enjoying reading many of the other PGC’s!

Happy 2022 brotha.

AQ hand I assume river was an offsuit 2? If so, no way I’m ever folding - would rather raise for value tbh. I’d also bet way bigger OTT. If river actually was 2ddd you can prob fold but even then I may call lol.

Gl this year and looking forward to the 2021 review!

Second to last session of 2021

“nice hand”

Possibly two of the hardest words to say in poker, but often necessary. A confirmation of defeat. Heartbreak. But also an opportunity. An opportunity to learn, get stronger, move on to the next challenge.

The final two sessions of my 2021 absolutely went in opposite directions. Still feeling a bit shaky coming off a losing Vegas trip, we get back into the action on our home court during the Thanksgiving long weekend.

Immediately get into a quick hole when a bad reg opens MP to 20. We make it 85 to go from the SB with A K .

Flop (170) T 6 4
We check/call 80.

Turn (330) 9
We check fold to a bet of 200.

Just over an orbit later we see an open from EP to 20 and a call from the CO and look down at A K and make it 90 to go. Only the original raiser calls and we see

Flop (201) Q 9 6
V leads for 100 and we call.

Turn (401) 4
V leads 220 and we fold.

“nice hand”

Couldn’t really find any traction, mostly 3-4 way flops with air and just relegating myself to a bunch of c/f’s. Took the 200BB loss on the cheek, reviewed my play and continue to look forward and improve.

Christmas Break - Biggest Winning Session @ 2/5.

“You’re good”. Probably the two best words to hear.

Played a hand against a tough reg. V is capable of value betting very thinly when appropriate. Thoughts on all streets welcome.

2/5 NL 8 handed

EP limp
H $25 with A A V calls OTB and limper folds.

Flop (55) Q J 3
H 35, v call

Turn (125) 9
We check planning to call down most runouts.
V 75, we call

River (275) T Travelling & The Live Midstakes
We check, v bets 150….

We are moved to the main game from the must move, and everything changes. We get put into an awesome 10/10 game stuck a buy in. After winning a few small pots were up to 1.2k eff when we pick up 5 5 OTB.

There are two limps and a raise from MP to 25. CO (super fun player donating/stuck heaps totally changing the dynamic of this game calls, we call, BB (regfish) calls, one limper calls. We go 5 way to a flop of:

Flop (130) A 9 5
checks to us and we bet 80. BB c/r to 220, with 600 behind. Folds to me and we call.

Turn (570) 2
BB bets 250, we jam and get snapped, and have A K drawing dead.

Up to ~2.2k, the next orbit the same V has rebought for 800 and raises UTG to 30. One caller from, MP, we look down at A J OTB and just call. BB comes along.

Flop: (115) A J T

check, UTG regfish bets 100, fold, we call, bb folds.

Turn (315) A gin.

UTG bets 200, we jam 670, and get snapped by AK and hold.

GII pre w AA for 1k and win vs assumed KK?

Up to ~5k we play a weird hand with the straddle on where we raise K K from EP to 35 Only the blinds call and we go 3 way to a flop of

Flop (110) A 7 5
SB check, bb leads 60. Not ready to give up yet, we call and the SB folds.

Turn (230) 8 BB leads again for 150. We… fold?

Last but not least, used our winning image and put it to good use. We look down at A K and raise to 30 from the CO. over two limpers. BB calls, (younger unknown rec) limper folds.

Flop (65) Q T 5
BB checks, we 30, call

Turn (115) 3
BB checks, we 80, call

River: (275) 7
Bb checks, we 210. Bb goes DEEP into the tank. Finally decides on a fold.

We get into this game for ~1600, out for just under 6600 for just under a 1000BB win

2021 recap + 2022 Goals

2021 was a stellar year overall. Life has been going well all things considered. As an introvert, being kind of forced to never leave the house for long periods of time has been great. I struggle to find reasons to leave the house with my girls at home (wife, dog).

Unfortunately since Covid I haven’t played as much poker as I would have wanted. This year we only managed to play 77 hours of live poker. Over that lolsamplesize we were able to win 12bb/hr. I played about 150 hours of breakeven PLO online at PLO100, basically using that as practice moving forward as I took on PLO study more seriously in 2021.

My other big “accomplishment”. Loving it so far. Relatively inexpensive to charge up. Definitely missing having AWD in the northeast but maybe next time Travelling & The Live Midstakes

Goals:

Poker:
-Goal is to play ~300 hours of live poker this year. Hoping to be able to continue winning at a decent clip
-Have my most played game NOT be 2/5 NLH
-Play in 5 new venues

Travel:
Already planning a trip out to Colorado to visit a good buddy who is moving away from me next month. Planning to spend 3-4 days there & 2-3 days in Lake Tahoe
Europe? Potentially. Depends on restrictions from Covid or lack thereof I suppose.

Life:
Hoping to save up enough for a down payment on an investment/rental property by the end of the year. Rough goal is to save ~25k. If some or even a majority of that can come from poker that would be excellent!

If anyone has any recommendations on good PLO content I would greatly appreciate it. So far I have gotten through Dylan Weisman’s into course on Upswing as well as much of the PLO content on CLP. I’m in addition I’m watching as many PLO streams/live cash cash games.

A I’ll leave you with one more as it is 12 degrees today and I am missing lunging out back with my girl Travelling & The Live Midstakes

The ATM

Got in two solid sessions right after the new year. Early on in the day, it was looking just like an average night. Nothing too crazy. Relatively “boring” spots, plying with folks not getting too out of line. After booking a small profit without too much going on, just playing ABC. We end up getting on the dinner list, and when we come back everything changed.

New player gets seated at our table, and puts down $5k in hundreds. “Sir - max is $800”. 30 minutes later he is in for 3.2k and has run it back up to 2.5k. He is self proclaimed “the Atm” and has already said the words all in about 10 times since joining.

When he goes all in with bills he makes an atm sound and splashed hundreds like they are singles. All around legend.

We get him for one hand where we open J J to 50 from MP over ATM’s limp. Only ATM calls and we go 1k eff to the perfect flop of:

Flop (105) J 9 5 .

We are thrilled but don’t really have time to read our own emotions when ATM immediately leads for 150. We just call

Turn (405) 2

ATM instant jams 800. We snap and hold on the

River (2005) A

A second maniac has joined and is now in for 2k. In less than 30 minutes. A quick hand ensues that I am not a part of but happens right before the next big hand.

ATM open jams 4K pre UTG. Reg tank calls from MP 3k eff and second maniac calls from BB with 500.

Board runs out K T 8 6 3

ATM has 9 9
Reg has J J
BB has A Q

Next hand we (2400) open A A UTG +1 to 70. SB maniac (BB from last hand (400)) calls, BB (decent reg (3k)) calls, ATM folds and S folds.

Flop (220) J 2 4

SB open jams 320
BB tank calls
We call

Turn (1180) 3
BB leads 600

New Year, New Game

In an attempt to progression one of my 2022 goals, we headed next door to Foxwoods to play in the 2/5 PLO. I’ve heard from various folks that this is usually a below average PLO game by normal standards, but this one in particular ended up being fantastic.

Get into the mist move, and there’s a ton of $$ on the table. Seems like a few regs are stuck and everyone has some ammo.

Got off to an early good start flopping too set of Q with QQT8ds on a Q94 board and GII against a shorty for ~300.

Next orbit there’s a straddle on, we pick up Q Q 4 5 OTB and raise to 50 over two limpers. S (400) - same v from other hand who had a wrap and missed calls and so does one limper and we go 3 way to:

Flop (160) A T 2 .

Both players check to us and we continue for 100. Only S calls and we get the

Turn: (360) Q

v jams for 250, we call and hold on a brick 6 River.

Up to 2k and running very well, we play a few more medium sized pots just making good hands betting for value. Played one frustrating hand where we raise ss AA from EP to 35, and go 4 way to a flop of

(150) A T 5 and decide to go for a c/r. MP caller does not oblige and checks, but the button does bet 75. SB caller folds, and we pop it to 300. MO
folds, and Amazingly BTN folds middle set TT face up!! . Should have played it standardly. Lesson learned.

The big hand of the night happens when there are two limps, no straddle and a reg to my direct right in the CO makes it 30 to go. We call OTB with Q T 9 7 .

One of the limper calls (fun player has been getting absolutely run over by the deck - in for 3k at least). And we see

Flop (100) J 8 4

limper (600) checks
reg (4000) 75
h (3200) call

limper raises to 300, reg calls, we call

Turn (1000) 7 BINK.

Limper jams 300
Reg pots
We jam 2900, reg calls.

limper has 99xx no clubs
reg has naked T9 no redraw!!

River (1900 - main) (5200 -side) Q

Reg starts celebrating like he just hit a higher straight, and my heart sinks. Luckily it ends up that we get the semi anti-climactic chop with reg. Almost able to scoop a sick one. Left shortly after that for solid ~500bb win

If anyone cares about the result in this hand - we end up not folding turn and BB shows up with 6 5 for the nuts.

Hoping to get a session in tomorrow - this nor’easter is really trying to dampen my plans though. Still may try to sneak a quick session in.

Battling

Took to the Philly streets this time around. Haven’t visited Parx in a while and anted to be a bit touristy in Philly. Unfortunately picked literally the coldest weekend one could think of. This limited outdoor time but still stopped at a few cool local spots!

For how cold it was in the real streets, the poker streets were even colder. Over a lol sample size I’m still down in Philly as a whole lifetime Travelling & The Live Midstakes

Started off in the 2/2 PLO. Played it for about an hour and it was absolutely awful. No big pots, one of the worst PLO games I had seen. So when we get called for the new 2/5 game we head for a seat.

Immediately got buried GII be two shorties, one for ~300 in a straddled pot, AQ < AK, and another where we had put in a 3 bet to 100 with AJs OTB and got l/rr by a 220 stack with KK, and lose.

Stuck about 250BB we get an absolute SAVER. It felt like nothing was going our way at all for 5 hours until we pick up 9 9 in the CO and make it 30 to go over two limps. BB calls, one limper calls and we go to a flop 1k eff with both:

Flop: (90) Q 9 3 .

It checks to us and we bet 50. BB calls, and limper folds.

Turn (195) 6

BB checks, we bet 125, he tank calls.

River (445) Q BINGO.

He checks, and we go for it all. Hero jams 795.
V tanks for 2 mins. Flips over cards. Mutters about how we just cannot fold. Calls with QJo.

Our next interesting hand came when we pick up T 9 and make a (too loose?) BTN open to 30 in a straddled pot. BB, older OMC looking type gentleman calls and S (MAWG) Calls.

700 eff

Flop ($90) 9 6 5

BB, S check
H 40 - I have definitely been over cbetting and people should be at least beginning to notice - it’s generally been working and rarely forced to show
BB min clicks it to 80, s fold, H call

Turn (250) T
BB leads 150
H call

River (550) 7
BB leads 320 with ~120ish remaining.

Hero?

Probably lost 5 hands back to back against a regular type player on an absolute heater who could not lose to anyone, sitting on ~5k. We end up getting in for ~2k out for ~1200 after bleeding back down.

Comeback PLO

Got in a 6.5 hour session of PLO on the home grounds. PLO doesn’t run often here, usually have to go elsewhere to play it so it was a welcome surprise. Game ended up being off the rails. The spot ended up getting quite belligerent over the course Of our session but ended up for some very fun hands. Got in the hole early making an I’ll advised ply against someone I would not have done it against even just an hour later.

Playing 2/5/T
1 limp to us and we make it 50 to go with K K J 8 . in the CO. The SB, BB, and limper all call. (1k eff)

Flop (210) 8 8 2

All of our opponents check to us, and we decide to bet 70. The SB, a middle aged Asian we’ve never played with before pots it. Both other villains fold and we decide to GII. he pretty much snaps and the runout comes

Turn (2110) Q

River (2210) T .

V scoops with AQ8x

A few orbits later we pick up A J T 5 in the BB.

2 limpers, to the HJ who makes it 25 to go. We call, and the limpers call. We are the eff stack with 1500.

Flop (100) Q 5 5 .

We check and one of the limpers leads for 100. The other limper (whale) calls, and we call.

Turn (400) A
We check, the “leader” continues 200, and we both call.

River (1000) T
We check again, leader continues for 375. Whale rips it in for ~1.3k. We think for a bit and end up deciding on a fold. leader calls.

River (3600)
Thoughts on hands?

At this point we’re into the game for 3.2k, and back in for another 1k bullet. During a quick break we snag these two suckers and keep it going.

Still feeling fresh and ready, we pick up a much needed hand when we are able to iso the drunk whale with A K 9 8 . We raise to 30 over a few limps, and only he calls after limping.

Flop (75) K 7 2 .

He checks and we continue for 40.

Turn (155) 7

He checks and we check back.

River (155) 3 .

He checks and I am convinced he basically has nothing so I decide to go for some thin value and wager 70. He insta makes it 220, and we call without any hesitation and are good. Later in the night v really goes off the rails. He was in for 3k, ran it up to almost 6k and has ran it back down to 2k. We bluff catch him a few times and make a few good (lucky?) folds against him as well, when this hand happens.

V is in the BB and at this pint he has potted every hand pre for the last hour. The straddle is on, there is one limp and we decide to limp A A 5 5 OTB. SB also limps, and drunk guy pots to 60. S folds, limper calls, and…

H (2500) 220.
SB (1200) cold calls,
BB (2000) calls
MP (600) calls. Three ways to:

(890) T 5 3
Checks to hero who pots. Decided to pot since it looks like we have AA, which we do, but I think our disguised set can get us paid.

H 890
SB 980, fold, fold
H call.

Turn (2850) 6
River (2850) 6

V shows a 6, and we scoop. Ended up making a nice comeback and cashing out with a decent win.

Shorthanded 5/T

Got in a short-ish session of 5/T. Two games were running, with the MM being pretty short. Ended up playing about 3 hours with the number of plays ranging from 7 down to 4 at the end. We ended up making it a mandatory 20 for the last hour which was awesome action.

Started off rough when I made a big mistake pre, and basically all around. I already know how butchered this one is.

We open K K :heart to 35 from MP. HJ (pro) and BTN call. The BB who is a pro squeezes to 140. We decide to flat (first mistake) and the other two players come along.

Flop (560) comes Q 9 7 .

BB checks to us and we bet 210 (sizing error again). HJ calls, with two players behind who both fold.

Turn (970) T .
Hero checks, HJ bets 640 (2k behind) and we fold.

A few orbits later we pick up K : heart: K on the BTN and raise to 35. SB (same v from last hand) makes it 135. We call and go HU and see:

Flop (285) 7 5 : diamond: 2
V checks and we decide to check back to let him bluff off.

Turn (285) J
SB leads 175
Hero call

River (635) K
V bets 320
Hero raise 850
V folds

The next hour or so we are playing 4-5 handed and we do a good job picking up small pots with mostly well timed aggression. We play one more interesting hand 4 handed as follows:

5/T 4 handed 2k eff. Folds to Hero On BTN with Q T who raises to 30. BB call.

Flop (60) T 6 5

V check
Hero 35
V 100
Hero call

Turn (260) T
V check
H check

River (260) 7

V check
Hero 400
V tank call

He later claims he had a 7, so ended up working out well for us.

Maneuvered (ran well) to another solid win. 2022 off to a fantastic start!

Thoughts on ruling?

5 way to the flop ($75)

Player A open jams $305. One fold, Player B Calls but almost exactly at the same time two guys behind fold and player A thinks everyone has folded.

Player A hand is mucked with the other players in a 6 card pile. At this point player B is the only player with cards. All chips in the middle

Floor rules player B gets the pot, (75) player a gets to keep his all in (305)
