Thanks dude. It definitely helps to know that I've been a fairly big winner last 500k hands so more of just accepting the variance and know it will straighten out as long as I make good decisions.

Busted the main in the 30th, lost AA<KK for 2nd in chips and from there bled a bit before ripping 87o in the SB for 16 bigs and losing to A6o to end the dream.

Feel very happy it is May and I can move on from the **** show that was April

April Showers to May Melancholy

I've been hit with by far the worst stretch of variance I have encountered in my young career, as I'm already about 35k below EV this year.

The few positives are I've worked super hard on my game the past two weeks (trying to do anything to stop the losing); at the same time, kicking myself for not playing enough/studying enough when the variance was great in Feb./March.

Vegas

Will be in Vegas from mid June to mid July in a kick ass house, which is definitely something I'm looking forward to since the past two summers I was stuck in ****ty studio. Will be staying with a bunch of BTS coaches and a few students and one straggler (hopefully he won't be a bit 2 salty)

I very well could be one of the weakest players in the house so always nice to see friends that I haven't seen in a year but of course learn more.

Vacation

Bought a 5 day cruise for me and my girlfriend to sail to Bermuda. I leave in about 2 weeks. After the cruise, I leave for Vegas in two weeks. The goal is too just eat, sleep, poker. Not really worried about results, still really confident in my ability just want to get in a lot of volume and keep getting better.

A Few Updates Since My Last Post

The Good and The Ugly.

Might as well start with the Good!

GOOD

Changing my Routine

Through the downswing, it was evident to myself that I wasn't using my time well and often sleeping in too late leading to lack of productive days. I forget which thread but I saw someone recommend "Miracle Morning" by Hal Elrod.

It was definitely an insightful read, and I just finished one month of doing the steps. I now get up at 9AM everyday, pray, meditate, and workout and feel more productive to start the day than I ever have before and has led to increased productivity by a mile (not just poker related)

In the month, I've packed on 10 lbs. and a few pounds of muscle, taught myself SEO and increasing my financial literacy.

Bermuda

Took a 5 day cruise with my girlfriend to the beautiful islands of Bermuda. The cruise ship was gorgeous and massive in its own right, but nothing compares to the beauty of the island. From the pink beaches to the caves we got to explore it was definitely a trip I'll never forget.

View from Top of the ship

Enjoying the beaches of Bermuda

Overall, I've been very blessed to be able to travel when I want thanks to Poker. I've been to the Bahamas, Mexico, South Dakota, Florida all within the past 6 months.

Also was able to complete my first 5k and Spartan Race this past Sunday, was extremely out of shape cardio wise but very happy to finish

One action shot of me hating life and sucking wind.

So yeah life could be better but I'm definitely doing my best to enjoy it.

The Ugly

Poker.

Downswing continues and has stretched to 2.5 months now. I'm doing a good job of still winning at a high clip at 500 and getting obliterated at 2k, so hopefully can change that soon.

So yeah over -50k downswing and -.5EVbb last 80k hands (which is really nothing bad at all) just shows how sick variance can be, especially PLO, where I've lost most of my money this year.

On the bright side, I have improved my tournament game thanks to coaching from the best reg in the pool and have been keeping a float with that. I also have had a very successful staking arrangement with a friend who has been crushing it to get me a little cashflow going.

WSOP

Still going big in this. Have about 22k in tourney buyins scheduled and play some cash so very excited about that. Only 10 days away so just going to do my best to get some decent volume and hopefully win some money!

Hope everyone has a great summer at the tables.

Haha Don't sleep on SD! Was really beautiful, although can't see myself going back; just nature and nothing else.

Thanks as always my man!

Wait, if you went on a 37k downswing and that was almost half your bankroll. You're at 50k+ now haven't stepped down in stakes AND have 22k planned in tournies? How is this going to end well?

I mostly play 500. Unfortunately, these higher games don't run too often in the states so it's not like it's my normal game. I sold half my action to the tournaments so not like im paying the whole cost. I've always been extremely aggressive as far as BRM.

As far as it not ending well, if I continued to lose I'd just grind 200/500 where I have a high winrate over a significant sample. Thankfully not to that point yet either!

Will eventually do a whole write up of this Vegas trip, but summation:

1.) Having an absolute blast
2.) First summer playing Highstakes live cash against some of the best competition there is
3.) Playing the main tomorrow (tech today), very grateful and blessed for the opportunity.

Gl me !

Good luck in the main dude. Run as good as you did for your first roll in craps and you'll easily make the FT. Transition from a Struggling Pro to A High Stakes Endboss

Main was very dusty, ran poorly for a second straight main which sucks.

One week left for the trip and most likely will be a losing one, but having a fun time.

Last week or so has gone well cash wise and I’ve been playing strong A game.

Got to play in 50/100 Bellagio game and had a fun HH.

I open 250 with XX in CO and Button reg 3 bets to 800 I call.

Flop is 644ddx. I check and Button bets 500 into 1600. I call.

Turn is 7d. I check and villain checks.

River is Kx. I check, Villain bets 1700 and I jam for about 8k. Reg tanks and calls after 45 seconds

Unfortunately I was bluffing what did I have?

No idea, but I'll hazard a guess...AdQx seems too boring so I'll say 67s. Could be 56s or 55 with a diamond though too...

What's the make up of a 50/100 game at the Bellagio? All pros but one or not even one rec?

Also reasonable. I had 8d8x and villain called with AdAx, was happy with my line but probs most I’ve lost bluffing.

It depends. Been in a 25/50/100 with 5 high stakes regs where I just had to change tables since I was quite minus EV.

Also been in a 50/100 where there were 3 whales, so can still get great tables.

Funny little story I got to play a little bit with MMA (for those who don’t know he coached me), first hand I play at 25/50/100 I Cold 4 bet him and he 5 bets 160bb eff, I fold AKo and he is nice enough to say “Pay me $20 and I’ll show you a deuce”

But yeah lot of tough competition out here, definitely some elite players out here that are better than me, Despite the results been good to play these big games

was thinking of 55d too but figured it may be overbluffing at this point, I almost always use randomizer to go for these river check raise vs capped ranges because it's so easy to overbluff

I actually find it somewhat tough to overbluff on this specific board, although you are not the first good player to say that. Also worth noting I’m shoving every flush (even baby flush) in this live environment. (I rarely have seen regs checkback flushes, which is fine since live and no need to balance too much)

No not me. I have played about 300 hands of 500NL on my tablet. It’s a pain to keep reloading to $500 so I probably looked like a fish

Will be back playing in NJ 15th or 16th and playing quite a bit

wouldn't we be leading most small flushes though instead of check raising?
