Monthly Recap: "PLO is the Devil"

I've begun implementing some PLO into my nightly grinds and starting working on my game. Despite getting my ass kicked (a short 2k PLO session turned into a quick -11k session), I'm learning a lot quickly as it is really a new game for me.

Sidenote: If anyone knows any good PLO coaches with reputable results/reputation let me know, I'm looking to get coaching

Thankfully, No Limit saved the day for me as I pulled in a pretty decent month despite running -10k below EV for the month. Not sure I'm going to be posting monthly results for the future for a multitude of reasons, but the HH will never stop

Hands:

Thank you should be fun. I did just sell out. Plan to play a ton of poker that week. If I end up busting early I'll see if there's any 5/10+ games available and if not I'll just play online in my room.

What could have been

Had a very, very frustrating day. Between tournaments and cash I probably ran about 10k below EV.

Flicked in a $320 satelite for a WSOP main seat. Got down to 4 handed where I lost 33>A8s and JJ<A4o. These are all super standard and kind of spots don't really tilt me, nonetheless winning one has me have a very strong chance of locking up at least 2nd.

Then played Sunday $215 on Borg, where I ran really well, but played super well. Got 3 way with 2 fish and I proceeded to get doomswitched.

God bless tourney players who deal with this **** every day.

Cash

Can't seem to win either, 0 fer 100 in bluffcatch spots and down a ton in AIEV. Playing tilted doesn't help, so it's something I could work on.

Feel very confident with my game though so should turn quickly.

Some hands to relive the horror.

Do you think holding a Tx in ATo is better then not holding one? Blocking JT but also blocking Tx bluffs. I feel unblocking Tx and calling with A2o might be better, thoughts?

I could be wrong but the Tx is kinda meh regardless since we do block bluffs but do block straights + 2p. I haven't looked at this spot though so maybe it's my worst bluffcatcher (off top of my head AJ/A9 don't seem great) I still have lots of work do in these spots and my call is marginal at best especially with the Th.

Yes, A2-A4 are better bluff catchers no disagreements here!

Ready to be a live pro

Headed off to Borgata tomorrow (tonight technically) to start a fun week long grind at the WSOP circuit.

I'm going to enjoy tomorrow, socialize maybe go gamble a little hit up a club etc and then will be all business come Sunday. I've been struggling in general so I've been looking forward to this trip for a while; it's been almost 8 months since I've played live poker.

In a rut

This applies mostly for just real life stuff, although could definitely apply to poker as well. I have been feeling a mixture of sadness, depression, and overall being unmotivated. It's a weird thing to describe since I feel very blessed and grateful with everything in my life. I'm relatively healthy, I'm not struggling financially, and I have a lot of solid relationships in my life. It's been a bit of state of melancholy the past few weeks.

I do think I'm stuck in the house a bit too much, so I impulse bought a car (did my HW, and without bragging too much got a pretty damn good deal) if I ever need to visit old friends or want to take some live poker trips etc.

I'm hoping the weather leads to an uptick but otherwise I don't want it to be an excuse for me being lazy... which I have been the last month or so.

Poker

Things have not been going so well results wise. I'm running awful with variance but I'm more disappointed with my play in quite a few hands. I've have had a few hands where to put it honestly I might mark myself as a fish

I've also done very little off the table work, pretty much the only time I have is when I'm preparing a student's lesson. So I'm hoping I can just focus on straight poker for the next 7-8 days.

It would also help to not be 20k below EV since I ended my contract with BTS.

At the very least hopefully I can have some hands to entertain everyone

It's a weird spot. BB is major nit so I think his raising range seems super nutted, I also block CC's (who usually doesn't CC) main flush combo's. I'm more annoyed with my sizing on turn as I think I should go smaller.

On river, I don't really have bluffs so I think the small sizing is fine, and just have to sigh fold where I don't think anyone really has bluffs here.

It's definitely a possibility, I'll know more as it gets closer.

Thanks for all the support guys! I finished 3rd after taking a bunch of tough beats and then A10<A2 for around 60% of chips in play... AQ7 flop...2 turn....GG

No complaints though had a blast and am pretty happy with my play, getting excited for the main coming up.
