Transition from a Struggling Pro to A High Stakes Endboss

Hello all,

I'm a recently turned 24 year old professional poker player specializing in online cash. This will be my 2nd PG&C and you can find my first thread right here ----> https://forumserver.twoplustwo.com/17...19/?highlight=

ABOUT ME

I'm just your average 24 year old guy. I'm an avid sports fan (even though all my teams suck) who likes to have fun and grab a beer with friends any chance I get. I graduated in 2015 with a degree in Communications. I currently live in Hoboken, NJ and it's a ton of fun but also one of the more expensive places to live. I'm pretty big into fitness and I have a girlfriend who lives a town over. As you can see pretty generic life story, although my poker story is quite a bit different.

The Poker Story

I'm half Irish so I came from a huge gambling family. It was just part of what we do. I believe I was 5 when I started gambling playing Gin Rummy with my Aunts and Uncles. The thrill of gambling is something I definitely still get today and I still remember my pulse going through the roof winning my first Rummy game for $20

But, Poker was never part of it. In fact, I didn't play my first hand of poker until late 2014 as a 22 year old. Ironically, I only deposited on 888 after seeing an Ad and having just lost my winter job. As most do, I blew multiples $50 rolls and only made a little bit of beer money my last semester of college.

Fast Forward to real work and I hated it. DESPISED IT. I dreaded work everyday and it was at that point I decided I'd give Poker a full time shot. I grinded from 10NL to 50NL, when I decided to give it a shot playing 50 NL full time with a $9,000 roll. #FullDegenerecyFullTransparency

As one might guess tons of ups and downs, including multiple times the roll almost vanished...

However, a year later I made it without going busto. I didn't make much money, mostly what an entry level position would make coming out. But going full time was the best decision I ever made as I love what I do every day.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
As of now, I'm playing 100-500NL with 200 NL my main game and I hope that this is the year I break through and start making some serious money. I am getting coached and I've already seen some big improvements this quickly which lead me to posting some pretty aggressive 2017 goals.

2017 Goals

1.) Play 750,000 hands of Online Poker

Can't make money if you don't play cards

2.) Play 500 Hours of Live Poker

I mean too profitable not too right? Most of these hours will be at WSOP this year

3.) Travel to 5 New States or 3 New States and go Abroad

Jersey can be kind of a ****hole sometimes

4.) Have 500NL and 1kNL my main game heading into 2017

5.) Reach 205LBS and 8% BF by end of year (Currently 192 and 9%)

Don't get complacent and fat or you're gf will leave you

6.) Earn 100k playing Poker

This is the one I really want

I'll do my best to update this thread once or a twice a week with some interesting hands as well as some trials and tribulations of the poker pro life.

Wish me Luck everybody!

I play in the USA and split my volume between Party Poker and WSOP, will probably add a 3rd site soon!

SN is the same as my username here (creative, I know.)

Re: Transition from a Struggling Pro to A High Stakes Endboss

January Recap

We did not hit 10k on table profit, but I was able to make about 10.7k including RB so a good start to 2017.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------

All in all a very successful month. I did not mention in my original post but I was dogwalking for a few weeks since money was tight and I wanted to protect myself in case I had a bad month. I lasted about 3 weeks... but in reality was taking too much away from poker and I was constantly exhausted from walking 5 hours a day + going to the gym. Anyway, I gave them my notice and we left on good terms but really thrilled to have put 70k hands in when I had a part time job that was 30hrs a week during most of January.

Will be slowly phasing out 100 NL soon and hopefully intricating more 400/500 tables in the mix, but we'll see. This month was my biggest improvement by far as a player so with all this extra time I'd like to continue to make big jumps in my game.

------------------------------------------------------

February Goals

1.) Study 30 hours

2.) Play 80k hands

3.) Hit 200 on bench

4.) Have the NE Patriots lose the SB (For the love of God).

And Some Hands from the month!

Thanks man, ya def a grind at some point, I'm interested to see what my WR will be after a larger sample.

So February is off to a rocky start as I dropped 1.3k in about 2 hours late in the AM playing some good 500 NL tables. Long month to go though

Thank you man! I remember playing with you a bunch hope the tables have been treating you well.

Put in an early 10k hands of mostly meh play with spurts of very good play. Have had people reference this blog during game so it's nice some people read it!

Have a nice little 3 day vacation from poker (after 34 straight days of playing!) as I'm going to a gala with my girlfriend tonight and then home for Super Bowl Sunday!

Thanks man it was super needed and I feel pretty recharged.

So weekend was quite fun, went to the city to celebrate a birthday with some friends, went to Staten Island for a gala that raised money for Marfan syndrome and then went back home to see the parents as well as catch the game with old highschool friends.

Got back today, reviewed a few things, and then proceeded to get obliterated

Definitely feel different about this swing though. Feeling SUPER good about my game and really noticing the improvement. Battled some bosses today at 400 and played pretty solid overall imo.

My WWSF this month is dreadful and I'm BE from the button so should turn soon, but here's month as of now.

Some hands from today:

1.) Against good reg, can 4 bet this combo sometimes of course, think I would call river jam with this combo.

Re: Transition from a Struggling Pro to A High Stakes Endboss

Good News: EV line for this month is now positive, bad news is the money line keeps dropping

Been keeping a pretty tight schedule that's kept me regimented and I think it's helped.

Got mercilessly crushed today and really didn't feel like grinding once I hit the 2k mark but was able to push through and limit the damage.

Hands:

1.) Starting the day on the right foot

Inching closer to break even this month which I'm happy about and EV looks good as well. Dabbled in some 600 and 1kNL games even. Have a session with a mental coach Thursday which I'm pretty excited about.

Thinking AQ is a good bluffcatcher here but he probably underbluff this runout while having 18 JJ-AA combos and 4 9x combos. But I'm assuming you have a read based on his sizing on previous streets.

Actually thought he'd be overbluffing this runout considerably, not saying him, but other regs go a bit nuts on boards they have a range advantage. Additionally, he had been triple barreling quite often against me in general so I think AQ is an ok defend, def wasnt super happy calling off. With his combo I think he's for sure overbluffing but he's probably assuming I'm under defending since we don't play a ton together. Best bluffing combos for him I'd say is J10hh or something along those lines.
