Hey all! So I recently got back from my week in Jax/S Florida. I figured I'd do a little blurb of my thoughts here, since this will be one of the most likely place people will look for S Florida info if they search the forums.
We basically did Mon:Jax, Tue-Sun: Plantation, and then Mon: Jax again.
I've been to Best Bet Jax many times, so I'll just share my thoughts about the S Florida rooms as a first timer -
I went to Isle, Hialeah Park, Gulfstream, HardRock Hollywood. The only room I regret not checking out was Coconut Creek, but it just didn't line up with my schedule.
Isle - Definitely my favorite room of the trip. Comps seemed to be the best, room was comfy and spread out, tables were nice, room was bright. It helped that I was there the same night Multi-Action-Poker debuted, so I got to watch Micheal Mizrachi play that for a while. There was a also a sick 2k-uncapped 10/25 NL going near the front where multiple people were sitting on 20k+.
I will say I've never ran worse in a room.

Hialeah - This room had the nicest chips, tables, and cards. The room itself was also very clean and nice-looking. HOWEVER, I was the only one at my table who didn't speak spanish. The dealer and all the players were constantly communicating in spanish the entire time I was there. The dealer spoke to floor in spanish, and almost all the commercials on the house radio were spanish. I have absolutely nothing against other ethnicities, but I just didn't feel comfortable being the only one out of the loop at all times. The actual casino also had little to no dining options and was in a rougher part of town. I was creaming my pants over the niceness of the chips and tables (compared to the other rooms), but the language barrier and lack of dining will likely keep me from here in the future.
Gulfstream - This room was absolutely in the nicest area. Less than 2 miles from the 3rd biggest mall in the country, 2 miles from the beach. The area was loaded with everything I love in a city - beach, vast shopping options, vast dining options, etc. The fact that it wasn't surrounded solely by old liquor stores and empty overgrown lots for 5 miles each direction was a HUGE plus for me. The room itself was the epitome of decent. I don't even remember much about it because it was so decent. Not bad and not good. That said, I had absolutely no problem of any kind here, and would likely return due to its great location. The players seemed to mostly be older (which is saying a lot in Florida), so that's something to consider.
HardRock Hollywood - I'm not going to lie, this room was one of the biggest letdowns of the trip. Having been to the HardRock in Tampa, my expectations were sky-high. The room was cramped, dark, too warm, and just generally unattractive in every way. You also have to go outside the casino to get to the room, which I feel loses so much potential when it comes to gamblers playing on a whim. Most of the players here seemed like regs, and I just didn't feel like this was a room I'd ever return to, barring great promos. IIRC the comps were on the low side as well.
Overall - I currently live in an area where the closest room in 4 hours away, and I have a job where I can work anywhere, so I'm looking to relocate mostly for poker. I am strongly considering S Florida, as that is really the only destination that makes sense for me. I hate the cold (so nothing north of VA), Vegas is 2,200 miles from everyone I've ever known, and California REALLY isn't my scene.
That said, I was a bit let down by the choices in S Florida. Having played at Borgata, MD Live, and all the Tier 1 Vegas spots (hell, even HR Tampa), I guess I was expecting a bit more. I feel like all the card rooms in S Florida are C+ rooms or worse, and fine with that. I wasn't really expecting an "A", like Borgata, Wynn, Vene, Aria - but I was expecting at least one room on the level of HR Tampa or higher. S Florida is like what AC would be without Borgata, basically. I'm just extremely surprised someone with big money hasn't ponied up and opened a flagship Casino/Resort (ala Borgata) in S Florida, it's seems the market is GAPING.
I also posted this here to get second opinions. Maybe I'm completely wrong or just went on a bad week. Please feel free to disagree or call me an idiot. I obviously want as much information as possible before I decide on where to relocate to!
