Basically never played 2knl except a couple very rare instances. Played a fair bit of 1k couple years ago but highest volume stakes were def 1/2 thru 3/6. It's definitely possible I fire some 1k at some point this year. During 2017 I barely played any poker because I was burned out. And then when I started grinding hard again very late 2017/early 2018 my focus got turned to the asian apps and not as much focus was on ignition. I was just using it for filler to go along with my asian apps. For the first few months there was a lot of really good $3.75/$7.50/$15 equivalent straddle games going so I was grinding a lot at that. Those games died down though and then it was back to mostly $1.5/$3/$6 equivalent for most of the rest of the year. And tbh the higher the stakes on those asian apps the more I worry about cheating/collusion occurring. But yeah in terms of ignition, my focus has been back on there lately so hopefully will start working in higher games again there at some point this year. For now I just wanna grind some 200nl/500nl and make sure my 6max game is on point since a big chunk of my volume last year was weird 8-9 handed straddle games.

Ultimately my goal is always to grind a reasonably high hourly in games that either don't cause a ton of stress or are at least soft enough to be worth the stress. I have no clue what the games above 500nl look like on ignition right now quality wise. If I think the hourly is significantly higher at some point I'll play. If I think the game quality is significantly worse to the point it's only likely to be a small hourly boost with much bigger $ swings I'll have no issue continuing to grind lower until softer bigger games come along.

Always nice to be over ev, although I think in $ I'm actually down a little ev. Meaningless amounts though and meaninless sample. Felt really good to have a productive first week of the year. I'm settling into a really nice routine where I wake up, take the dog out, meet my wife at the gym on her work break, and then come back and grind until she gets home. Then break for dinner and I get in the bulk of my volume for the day when the games are best at night. I've also been playing on a new app that has just ridiculously soft plo games. I haven't played much plo and tbh I never cared to as I prefer the lower variance grind. But these games are too good to not play and so far it's been going really well despite some run bad in the bigger pots/stakes. I suppose it's also nice to break up the monotony of the nlhe grind a bit as well.

I want to set some more concrete goals at some point in terms of my goals for the gym. Will prob do that once I start lifting again in a couple weeks.

**No clue why all of a sudden I'm unable to embed these images, if someone has any idea why it's not working lemme know thx**
how the hell you play nearly 20'000 hands in a week? thats mad

good question, went back and looked and the graph was accidentally filtered to diff dates than my sessions tab. Only got in like 12k hands over the first week of the year not 20k! Although that's purely ignition hands, so I actually prob am close to 20k hands when you factor in the hands on the apps as well.

Sup guysssssssss

Another very productive week of work! I am absolutely crushing the volume so far to start the year. I'm up a fair bit at the tables as well but honestly I'm way more proud of the volume. I've been trying to keep more structure to my grind and not waste a bunch of time playing fortnite/whatever other nonsense. So far so good and I hope I can keep this up throughout the year. I still struggle with a desire to not play poker sometimes but I've been successful pushing through it and I think having more structure and goals is a big help with that.

Graph of the year so far for ignition

Mostly been doing 4 full ring tables on ignition. Full ring is pretty boring but the tables are good and it's unfortunately necessary because along with my ignition tables I've been doing 2 tables of plo on an app and a table or two of mixed game cash on another site. My brain just can't handle 6max tables when also playing other game types. I think my hourly is highest this way and honestly it's more enjoyable than just playing straight nlhe. I don't particularly like plo and have done so little work on the game but the games are really soft and I know enough that it makes sense to be in there. Been going really well so far and up a decent amount on each of the three games/sites. I may need to tinker with my setup here and there though because it's def super tiring sometimes. Like tonight I was playing 4nlhe, 1 plo, 1 5 card plo, 1 badacey, and 1 8game mix. Lot to keep track of when mixing diff game types.

I have not done as much study this week as I would have liked. I did have a coaching session a few days ago and got some good things to think about and work on. I plan to get more at some point, still trying to figure out the most optimal way to go about this. Utilizing PIO is obv a very useful tool (as long as you are using it correctly) and I want to be working on things consistently. It's very difficult getting it in sometimes though because the most important things to me right now are my wife/getting to the gym/and getting in good volume. My father in law is very sick and in and out of the hospital so that is eating up some time and obv just stressful situation in general. Just gonna keep plowing through for now and studying when I can. I'm trying to decide if it's higher ev hourly to keep doing what I'm doing vs working back in more 2/5 6m, so I'll have to run some numbers and see.

Life:

As mentioned, father in law is sick so that's ****ty. Besides that life is pretty good right now. My friend had a baby a few weeks ago and it's pretty awesome to see. I'm in such a weird spot right now where I 100% want a kid or two at some point but also don't want the stress/expense right now that comes with it lol. It's def a couple years away for us still, but I think it's something you are never gonna feel 100% ready for, just need to take the jump when it's the right time and try to be the best parent you can be!

Been in a really great routine with the gym, prob been going 6 days a week on avg. Still just doing cardio for now so that's not that crazy. Looking forward to working back in weight lifting in the next couple weeks. Still not happy with some of the snacking I've been doing though. Just eating way too many empty calories like chips. For a little extra motivation to knock that off gonna give a small freeroll for this week.

$50 to charity of your choice for whoever comments 1st if I have more than one bag of chips now thru sat 1/19.

Hope everyone is running well to start the year, glgl!

Thanks dude! Haha yeah a routine really helps tbh. It can be easy to be tempted into a lack of structure when we have so much freedom but obv important to get in the work hours if you wanna make decent ev over the year!

For sure. I'm actually not really worried about the expenses, but I would like to continue to save up as much as humanly possible before then so that I hopefully continue to have max flexibility and freedom to spend as much time with them growing up as I can. Idk what the landscape of online poker is going to be in a couple years and despite still making good money I still flirt with the idea of moving to something else, but the flexibility of poker will be pretty awesome if I'm still playing full time when the time comes for a kid.

Can attest to poker's flexibility being great for kids. It will probably make you appreciate poker/work more than you ever thought in that first year. Every dad I know (including myself) never thought they'd be thankful for having to go to work lol. It might make you want to play live more than online even!

As a guy, trust me you'll never be ready to have kids. I was always coming up with reasons to delay it. I'd say just do it ASAP and you won't regret it. Once your kid starts to become a kid after the first year it is so fun.

Haha yeah the lifestyle change in being responsible for another human life is what I least look forward to but it's just a part of it and obv worth it in the end.

Wife isn't ready yet either so we are on the same page at least lol. But you're right you're never gonna feel 100% ready. Def looking forward to many aspects of starting a family over the next few years.

haha poker all relative in the end. As long as you are playing better than your opponents that's all that matters. I'd like to think I would have worked more with solvers at this point if I wasn't over a decade into my poker career though. I think it's a pretty natural thing to lose some love and motivation for the game over time. I've been able to get the fire back a little bit so far this year though so hopefully as well as continuing to grind hard I can also get some decent study volume in too.

You guys are too kind. Glad I'm able to positively contribute most of the time.

gl to you as well!

Both a wonderful night and a terrible night to close out yet another week of solid poker volume.

Poker:

Igntion Year so far

Year still going well so far. Happy with the hours so far, think I'm averaging around 30 hours of play per week. I've also spent additional time on poker related stuff and I'll be happy if I can keep the numbers around there all year. Results have been great on ignition as well as on my other app sites.

In frustrating news I had a very deep run in the ignition 100k tonight but ultimately lost a 55/45 to a fish that should have an easy fold pf to go out in 20 something place. There was about 20k up top so woulda been nice to get some heat. Tourneys are their own special type of frustration for sure. I only play a handful of tourneys each year and unfortunately have a history of running very poorly when super deep with a lot of money up top. Definitely not fun but ultimately no one deserves to run good when deep any more than others do. Would certainly be nice to get some run good in similar spots in the future though. Idk how anyone plays tourneys as their only income as the variance and lack of control over results is pretty brutal. Between that and the forced long hours I can't imagine a good work/life balance being achievable for most people.

Life:

Although the tourney result was disappointing, I was happy to see my Patriots win a very emotional rollercoaster of a game for yet another super bowl appearance. Really hope we can pull it out vs the Rams. I like our chances but we could easily lose which never feels good in the super bowl. First world problems for sure lol. Other than that life has been good. Been great about the gym. Wasn't eating chips and will hopefully continue that trend. Situation with wife's father really sucks. Losing loved ones or watching them go through sickness is never easy.

If anyone has ideas for what would make this all more interesting for people lemme know. I'll try to drop some hh in here at some point.

I feel the exact same way about tournaments. it's always especially frustrating when someone else's mistake ends up costing you your tournament life, rather than just getting coolered.

Haha yeah I think they're just always going to be frustrating by nature tbh. And obv any deep run is an overexpectation run. Just unfortunate that so much of the end result comes down to luck when deep.

Appreciate it. Unfortunately just part of life :/ I'm lucky to be surrounded by a lot of great family/friends which makes it easier when tough times hit.

Will do!

Mtts are a confirmed ***** . Nice start to the year in the cash streets though (flex).

Bfizz, Tgiggity and I were talking on the subject of poker careers and how the 2 of us (bfizz and I) are both 10+ years into our careers and we're still really hungry every day when we wake up. Definitely some people are more drawn to poker and have more natural love of the game than others, that's super obvious. But what Bfizz was saying, and I agreed with, is that we've both found outlets that give us the life balance and downtime/recharge time that we need. It doesn't have to be anything super fancy, for both of us it's really as simple as getting out and going to a restaurant/bar and eating a nice meal and BSing with some friends. But that gets us both recharged to where we go home and we hit the grind or study grind or whatever it might be and wake up amped up to go in the morning again.

No real in depth point that I'm making with the above, mostly just writing about it as the 3 of us literally discussed the topic last night while at dinner and I just caught up on your last few posts right now. Just saying we all know how it feels/can feel and I'm glad you found your fire again. We gotta take what we can while we still can . Gl rest of the month my friend

Haha yeah solid start to the year def can't complain.

That all makes a lot of sense. I def think having proper work/life balance plays into the burnout factor for most people. Having other things in your life besides poker is extremely important. I think impostor syndrome also plays into things for me tbh. I have confidence in my abilities but I also never want to lie to myself and overestimate my abilities. I've had a lot of success over the years at this game but I'm not infallible and there were tons of players before me who came and went because they couldn't adapt over time. I also think my upbringing plays a part in this as well. Going through college even while having some decent success with poker I had always told myself I couldn't play poker for a living. I thought I'd stay on a more normal path and just play poker on the side because that's what I was supposed to do. I was supposed to just go to a good college, get good grades, graduate and get a good job, and so on and so forth. I'm honestly pretty surprised I even ended up having the balls to make the jump after I graduated and started working. My life has been sooooo much happier due to that choice to play poker full time though. But yeah I think there's always some fear of "what if I reach a point where I can no longer succeed to the degree I want in poker". And I think that stuff plays into burnout for me.

Thx for the support bud. Def gotta hoover up as much of the $ as you can for as long as you can in this game. Hope your transition to this new sng type ends up being the more fruitful hourly that you are hoping for. Will be following along with your thread as always!

Gonna throw an update on the month in here soon, has been a very strong start to the year so far. In the meantime if anyone has any tips/product suggestions for making my work space more ergonomic i'd appreciate it. Right now I have an Ikea Markus, thinking of getting one of the nicer more expensive ones like an Aeron or Embody or something. And any other suggestions for getting things at the proper eye level/making sure wrist is in proper position/etc is appreciated. I'm like 6'1'' and just short of 200 pounds.
