Sup dudes and dudettes! If you're an mtt reg yourself you might recognise the cryptic username! Whether you recognise the name or not I'll explain my situation regarding poker first with some of my personal inspirations and goals and then I'll finish with a little background of my fitness interests and plans for the future!

I'm a 25 year old full time poker player, living in Liverpool and I've been studying and playing now for around 7 years... Time flies.

My first steps on the ladder towards improving myself as a player with aspirations to eventually go full time started about 5 years ago with my involvement (purely as a student) with shortstack hero and CAP cash on pokerstars. Having learnt the fundamentals from that and my friend and coach Lorin Yelle I braved this format alone for around 6 months whilst juggling uni and a passion for lifting weights. Soon after this I was taken under the wing of another good friend of mine who ran a stable for hyper turbo sngs. I very much enjoyed this format for around a year, again massively building on my fundamentals and progressing from the 7 dollars games to the 60s (with occasional 100 shots) within this timeframe.

With the introduction of the spins it seemed after a while logical to move from the slowly declining format of the hypers and so this is what we did. At first I enjoyed the change in game and the challenges that brought with it but after a while the monotony of this variant all but killed my enjoyment for the game. So it's no surprise that it didn't take too much persuation to switch to mtts when my backer at the time offered me the chance.

Now this is the game I originally fell in love with. For the first time in a long time I was looking forward to work, I was getting a thrill from deep runs, studying seemed oh so much less of a chore. It really took me back to the early days where me and my flatmate would hold up in one of our rooms with cans of energy drinks and 400 bucks in our accounts and just load everything we could over a 14 hour period.

So I don't bore any readers to death we'll fastforward to present day . Ive been playing mtts full time under the guidance and backing of Apex Staking for around 2 years now and although my results are far from impressive and understandably my bank balance is equally as unimpressive I still feel the drive to improve my game and build myself a comfortable life through what is essentially a strategy game and this is why I decided to start a new PG&C thread.

My biggest inspiration right now is Blackkman08. I read his current thread every day before work and I really respect his work ethic, his high volume low stakes low variance approach to grinding and ultimately this is what I aspire to achieve myself for as long as I'm playing this game. His thread is also what's inspired me to start my own as you'll see from my graphs that my volume is lacking and I hope this will keep me accountable and on the ball through the upswings and the downs .

Like I said, pretty unimpressive but liveable and (to put things into perspective) having started my journey if someone would tell me I will make 20-30k a year from my computer I'd have been elated. Given this graph is from when i started it would seem very likely my current ROI is between 3 to 4 dollars per game pre rakeback (lol whats rakeback). Lets hope we can improve on this. I don't see why I can't eventually achieve 5-6 bucks a game with my current schedule. Obviously coming from a background of capped cash games, hypers and spins it's taken me a long time to adjust my game for stacks over 20bbs I have improved dramatically and my winrate has stayed the same or improved as I've climbed the stakes but I still see myself as being a very meh reg with lots of leaks and I've only got myself to blame for that. Must study more!

However what I do want to do is increase my volume, increase my winrate (duh) and balance my social and fitness life outside of work so I can feel fully fulfilled and contented with my efforts. +If I can only emulate these results next year over 12k games I'll be super stoked.

Poker goals for the rest of the year and beyond are as follows......

[ ]800-1100 scheduled mtts a month with an ABI of 18 or higher
[ ] Winrate of 8bbs/100 or higher (currently sat at 7.6 for the year)
[ ] Profit (I would hope)

Just quickly now I'll touch on my current fitness regime and future plans. I'll more than likely go into much more detail in the future If anybody is interested in the topic.

Having been fairly obsessed for a good number of years with lifting weights, powerlifting and basically trying to get as big/heavy and as strong as possible a number of injuries brought me to Yoga about 5 months ago now. Those injuries are some of the best things to ever to have happened to me. Since taking up practice Ive made more close social bonds, felt fitter, happier and felt more emotionally balanced in the last 4/5 months than I have done in the last 6 years of lifting weights. I started out practicing a couple of times a week and now I go every day with a spin class twice a week. If anybody ever gets the chance to practice yoga or meditation I couldn't recommend it more! For me its completely changed my outlook on life and I feel it perfectly compliments any job where you're stuck behind a computer screen for the majority of the day. Since starting my journey with yoga I've quit smoking, gone vegan, dropped 35lbs (down from 205), made a ton of new friends, and just generally been the happiest version of myself in memory. I'm sorry but it really is difficult not to preach a little I'll make the occasional yoga update if anybody is interested in hearing about this and there is the distinct possibility I'll mix teaching with poker once I'm on my own roll although I'll go into more detail about this in future posts.
Feel free to follow me on instagram if you're at all interested in my fitness journey. https://www.instagram.com/ben.david92/

So lastly my health/fitness goals are as follows

[ ]Practice yoga/meditation at least 90 minutes a day
[ ]Become the most fit and lean version of myself
[ ]Continue eating well and living as healthily as possible
[ ]Potentially give up alcohol completely (will see how my friends take this first )
[ ]Find that perfect work/play balance and stay happy!

Will try update at least twice a week and I hope to make new connections within the community and to potentially one day inspire others maybe not to be the best in the game but absolutely to be content and happy with what they hope to do with their chosen career path or lives away from the screen.

Thanks for the subs guys!
Solid-ish start to the weekend. A few deep runs including the 44bb made for quite an interesting session and super happy with how I played which is of course the main thing! Just finished one of my last games for the day and couldn't close it out finishing in 3rd place. Unfortunately I do think I made quite a costly mistake at the ft which could well have cost me the score but you live and you learn. Would have made for a superb start to the new thread but profit is profit and I'm happy to save my binks for tomorow

51 mtts with a profit of just over 1k I think??? Really need to pay attention to cashier at start of my grind in future

Spin class first thing in the morning then food prep and the plan is to grind midday till late. Hopefully be able to get a decent 65 games out and keep the profit train rolling. See you at the tables!

Good luck with your journey Ben, we gotta meet up again if you ever make it out of Liverpool, trying the healthy lifestyle this time ... Quite a transformation from a guy that couldn't even look at a vegetable 5 years ago , good times ahead .

Still banking?
Gl man, I'm interested in you updating more about yoga, maybe write me some classes.
Like you, I feel a bit trapped in the spins.
How long does your sessions last? Imagine that playing only 4 or 5 days, it is not so different to play spins 6 days a week.

Cheers man! Cool I'll post a yoga update in the coming days then
Currently I very much fit work round my yoga schedule. So if I have yoga in the morning then i start my grind usually between midday and 2pm and finish some time close to midnight and If I have my yoga in the afternoon (either 6 or 7pm) my mtt session is 5 or 6am start for a 2-4pm finish. 4 days a week gets me 800 games with this schedule and any extra days I throw in go towards the 1k game target If you ever get sick of the spins I would recommend mtts, they'll be soft for a long time I should think! +If you ever get the chance to practice yoga yourself give it a go, you might find grinding the spins a little less stressful

As for my last few days they've been pretty crappy results wise but super happy with how I've been playing , chip ev going in the right direction, been playing my A game with minimal mistakes and been keeping on top of my fitness and diet regime.

Sunday I bricked everything until about 9pm where I was left with a few super nice shots at 6-10k but bricked all 3 shots final 60 players, Monday I took off as a good friend came to visit but went for a nice slow yoga class in the morning then went for a small 5k run and today I've just finished my morning grind and apart from a few daysaver runs which all bricked final 3 tables I just couldn't get anything together again. Feeling super confident for the month though Upswing incoming.

Games for the month sitting at 162 with a total loss of 250$ Off to prep for tonights session in the yoga centre and it'll be a late grind tomorow! Next day off will be saturday so I'll more than likely update again then unless I bink something or I get some replies to the thread See you at the tables!

I certainly wouldn't recommend a sleeping schedule like this! I almost always wake up before 9am. Early grind im up between 4.30 and 5.30am and late grind ill get up between 7 and 9am. Occasionally i just feel tired/lazy on my day off and ill get up at 11 but i always end up regretting it As a low-midstakes mtt player theres enough games running 24/7 to have a fairly consistent and healthy sleeping pattern.

Felt super happy with how I played again today but no real runs or exciting spots. I did manage to close out a couple of daysavers on party thankfully! Can always count on party poker to pad your bankroll when you're running bad on stars Back into the black for the month!

Chip ev over 8 currently and feeling fresh, confident and motivated for the rest of the month. Lets go!

Welllllll........... I was one tabling final 160 players of the brawl when I posted my update. I had 10bbs and if I'm completely honest I would have been more than happy to brick and go get some rest and some food at 9pm. 4 and a half hours later I only went and binked it! Full update coming tomorrow (was a hell of a rollercoaster) but right now I'm going to feast!

Some interesting hands from last night in the brawl then! Like I said, when I posted that update on the day I was 10bbs deep with I think around 160 players left and more than ready to bust and get some rest. Turns out the poker gods had other things in mind!

This was the turning point and perhaps a sign for things to come.... I wasn't sure whether to be happy that I still had a long shot or sad that I'd have to wait longer to make my dinner

3 hours later, a few sngs on the side and a I've made it to the ft as the chipleader with a very healthy stack and a solid bounty on my head. The next hour Im super in the zone, taking down pots, picking my spots, feeling confident and we make it to final 4 players with stacks all relatively similar. Ive increased my bounty by 2 players and around 300 bucks and we have 2 solid russian regs and one massive fish left in (sorry if you're reading this). With around 1.3k locked up and around 5k for first there was a lot to play for and icm pressure was fairly heavy given stacks depths.

After 4 solid hours of playing well, running good, just generally enjoying the shot this hand happened......

Safe to say I was fairly annoyed with the outcome. Obviously a horrendous jam, a disasterous runout and majroly costly at such a late stage in the game. Made all the worse by the fact the fish with K6 had 600 bucks on his head.
At this point I posted in my skype group ''where is the justice''.

Justice came

Considering the pretty hefty difference between first and second place and the fairly low edge we figured we'd have against eachother HU we decided to discuss a chop and I managed to take down a little over 4.5k from the deal.

Not a bad day all things considered! Took today off to recover, eat, yoga, get some study in and meeting a friend tomorow for the day before I try and grind out an extra 120 or so mtts on the weekend and hopefully some more money!

Little weekend update.... Pretty bad fail to be honest and gonna have to catch up a little next week!

My catchup with my friend ended up being quite a heavy night on the booze.... I'm not a big drinker and I pretty much always regret when I do end up going out but I hadn't seen her in ages and we started early in the bar she works at which meant we got free cocktails for the first few hours of the day.... Sometimes you just have to accept the inevitable and go with the flow

So obviously Saturday was a complete write-off! I spend all Friday night absolutely adamant I was gonna work the next day then I woke up an hour after I should have started my grind and of course feeling terrible.

Got to bed for 9pm ready for the Sunday grind and I've just struggled to get my head in the game all day. Managed to hit volume and still got a few stragglers running but has not been the best day! Havent lost a chunk but always sucks to know you haven't played your A game.

As I said earlier, I'll have some ground to make up in the following week so expect to see plenty of volume, a few updates and hopefully a ton of profit
See you at the tables!

Very short update as its been a super long day and I'm up to hit the tables again tomorow morning!
Really interesting day! A little bitter sweet but was a decent winning day so thats what counts! Had a few runs early on before I binked the 44 deepstack bounty builder for 2k and then 11 hours into my session I bust the mini thrill in 4th place for 1.4k. Was around 4.5k ftw but can't be too salty as I ran decently in late stages and a 3k+ winning day is very nice to start the weekend grind on .

and month to date....

Lets keep the rungood real this next two weeks! Dreaming of my first ever 10k month
See you at the tables!

Another pretty bitter-sweet day yesterday! Loaded up first tables at 2pm and didn't finish until 4am! Actually worked out quite nicely as I had planned on staying up to watch the boxing and I'm not sure I'd have stayed awake without the games running!

Managed to scoop another 2k or so but wow did I miss out on a big day! I wont bore you with the many badbeats that busted me but these were my deepest runs...

12th 22 6max turbo 1k ftw
5th h33 3.5k ftw
5th party poker suckerpunch 1.5k+ ftw
9th 33 6max pko turbo 3k+ ftw
5th 16.50 br 700 ftw
4th 16.50 deepstack pko 2.5k+ ftw

Obviously a decent winning day but oh what could have been! Must learn to close..... Despite feeling a tiny bit burnt out today I'm gonna load my sunday session regardless as I'm taking tomorrow off and I'm getting dangerously close to my first 10k month
4 days left of the grind to try hit that magical number! But **** it, lets bink a major today and make that 20k

Best of luck at the tables today everyone and hopefully I'll be updating this evening with another solid day!

Sorry! on a little family visit to Prague at the moment! Back tomorrow evening to try catch up with the wcoop! Super super excited actually!

Finished last month fairly strong, think I finished +10.2k so officially my first ever 10k month and of course best month to date! Missed my volume target by 50 games and only managed 6 chip ev but I'd be lying if I said I was overly upset . Played my best, pit in solid hours and reaped the rewards!

I've gotta shoot off now as we're off for dinner but plan is to put in a solid wcoop grind Thursday to Sunday then I'll do a proper update here on the Monday. Will write a little about my yoga too as I've kinda ignored it to date! +Got some cool photos in Prague today so beware the holiday snaps!

You've been warned

Cheers dude! I hope you have a succesful WCOOP too if you're grinding!

Superrrrr frustrating start to my month yesterday....
Started my grind at 2pm and at 1am I'm sat with a very solid stack final 18 players of both the big22 with 8.5k ftw and the 109 powerseries pko with 10k+ ftw. I typed into my skype group 'this next hour is going to be important' and unfortunately I ran face first into aces 5 times in that hour and subsequently busted the b22 in 15th and the powerseries in 10th. Really dissapointing ofc as both shots would have been my biggest score to date but thats the way she goes I guess!

Went to bed a little tilted and semi dreading another long grind again today but after dragging myself outta bed I realised how shortsighted this was.
This month practically every game I play is super high value, my roi should increase fairly substantially, I'm allowed to play all the 109 scoops and powerfests so my abi will increase, lots of sick high value games with solid structures means lots of exciting runs (and of course in pretty soft games) and it doesn't matter if i run like **** every day if I can bink one event or even if i can emulate my results from yesterday and just make 600 bucks a day!

I wont lie, it would have been nice to start this month with a 10k score but its WCOOP boys! Gotta stay focussed, play your A game and hope the cards fall in your favour! See you at the FTs!

Also, here are a few photos from my little family holiday in Prague! Great short trip with my dad and sis. Awesome city, great cuisine (unfortunately I didn't get to try the majority of it with my dietary choices) and oh dear god the women.....
