Well. Been debating starting a thread or getting a blog for a long time. I think it will be nice to have a place where I can just talk about life/poker and get some thoughts down.

For those of you who don't know me, my name is Nick Frame, and TCfromUB is my PS sn. I play NLHU and PLOHU from 5/10-50/100. Read more to figure out what game I'm adding to the mix for 2015.

2014 overall wasn't a great year compared to what I think my expectation was. I won around 400k at poker. Also a lot of bad things happened in the poker world in terms of affecting my earning expectation. In addition I got pretty sick around the middle of the year which lasted a while and was both scary and a PIA. I suppose it's tough to complain looking at the big picture, but I just had higher hopes for 14. There were lots of life things where I got a bit unlucky. The market did well though which was nice, and I had/have a big piece in it.

I'm not a guy who constantly complains and thinks he's unlucky--in 2013 I ran quite well at just about everything possible.

For 2015, pokers tougher, but I'm hungrier than ever, and I'm hopeful I can have a great year. I've put in an insane amount of off the table work in the last 5 months to finish the year.

2015 Goals/things I want to do/focus on:

-Improve net worth [before taxes] by 1mill+, which will likely involve needing to earn 750k+ at playing poker
-Maintain top 5 at NLHU, Get to top 15 at HUPLO (prob in 25 range atm), Become top 3 HU hyper sng player (theres the shocker for the OP!). Should be hopping into 500/1ks by end of Jan.
-Probably Buy a Porsche 991 GT3
-Buy a BMW GS motorcycle and do at least one long trip with my Dad.
-Get my body from 3 years ago back. Haven’t lifted **** since then and I think I'm too thin atm.
-Women.

question: why would you buy an 100k+ car when you live most of the time in Mexico? Seems like the personal finance equivalent of open shoving pre. Or are you thinking you will move on from poker by end of year and buy that as your reward for all the hard work or something like that?

I'll be spending roughly 75% of time in Mexico, rest in US. And will probably fly back around once every month-45 days. I really enjoy cars. I actually might try to do something in car business post poker. Normally what I've done is buy really nice low mileage 3yr olds with warranty left on them and in the depreciation sweet-spot. For example my 08 911 (997) turbo I bought with 10k miles on it in late 2012 for 84k (135k sticker new). I think its worth around 76k atm. So as far as depreciation thats really solid, hell my truck has probably lost close to that per year.

The new 991 gt3 will be worse depreciation/yr wise but its not going to be anything crazy. I live reasonably modestly (spent about $60k this year including expenses) and I've saved a lot over my career. Some guys like buying a 5-10k watch a year, or going on sick vacations, I really like cars. There's plenty of people out there who don't spend $ on cars like this but still take an equivalent or worse hit to their net worth spending it in other ways. That being said if I dont have a really solid year and poker looks even more bleak then I might hold off.

I enjoy your reasoning, especially considering you kinda justify it by living somewhat moderatly compared to earnings. A man gotta enjoy himself and this is your treat. Heaps better than how most other choose to spew. A Porsche dealership opened like 5 minute walk from me, Id like to walk in there someday and not feel like a bull****ter
