Hi All

I'm 24 and have been playing online poker since I was 15. I've been an exclusively micro-stakes kinda guy, initially playing freerolls on sites such as Pitbull Poker after school after making the move from the play money tables - I spent a lot of mornings before school building my play money bankroll :P

Since I turned 18 in 2012, I've played predominantly SNGs on PokerStars. From being unable to beat the rake over 1,000 games in full-handed SNGs (I believe the $1.50s), I moved to turbo HUSNGs and began to make progress.

My poker history has involved depositing with high expectations of being able to commit seriously to improving my game and moving up in stakes. However, for various reasons (university, work, general life) I have always cashed out and forgotten about poker for a while.

Well, now I am back. I have moved to hyper HUSNGs, downloaded Poker Copilot and deposited on Stars. I'm playing the $3.50 hypers and planning to improve my game, play a ton of games and eventually, hopefully, move up.

I am just sharing this as a way of getting thoughts from the 2p2 community and to keep myself focussed on this goal.

In 2019, I would like to play around 5,000 hypers and be in a position where I feel confident at the next-highest stake ($7s on Stars).

I have a lot of learning to do and would appreciate any training resources; initially free or low-cost. I'm familiar with the HUSNG.com free videos and the mersennary ebook (need to read again, more actively this time and take notes).

For those who are interested, below is my Sharkscope all-time graph. It is modest (you can see I didn't make any money at all for over 2,000 games!) but I am really determined to get 1000s more games and hands played and make big improvements. I started an upward trend when I moved to HUSNGs at around the 2,000 mark.

Thanks for reading

UPDATE: 1000 Hyper HUSNGs played.

So, shortly after I made this thread I got a job which meant not enough time or energy to focus on poker. Or, if I'm being honest with myself, just not enough motivation.

That changed in November. I set myself a daily target of 20 hypers per day ($3.50) and have largely stuck to this, sometimes playing more.

Here's my mediocre graph. Turns out I've got a lot of work to do to improve my game.

I've invested in HEM2 (micro) but that's it. No coaching or anything yet. I keep getting tempted, but part of me thinks I should be able to teach myself to beat the micros if I'm going to have a chance of moving up.

My EVROI is just over 1% which is pretty crap. I think I need to spend more time on hand reviews and posting on the HUSNG strat thread. It's kinda quiet these days which is a shame. I get the feeling staking groups are where most of the strategy talk is going on but I don't want to sign up to an agreement because the volume required is insane (I still work full time and commute).

Does anyone know of any strategy groups for HUSNG hypers?

I'll try to update this semi-regularly (and not with results!). Trying to be less results-oriented and keep banning myself from looking at the graph and failing. The long term goal is to move up to the $7s but I'm certainly in no rush. From these results, it's clear this will take many months (around 10k games!) and I still have to improve my game massively to have a chance.

My target for the next month is to keep to my volume target but spend more time reviewing my hands.

I definitely recommend getting more involved in the husng + spin forum here on 2p2. There are a number of decent players who would be willing to give you some input there. There's no shame in getting coaching to improve, but I agree that the microstakes are likely beatable without paying for a coach or the like. Start posting some hands in the husng forum, read through the other posted threads, and get some feedback there.

Thanks, I will do.

Is it OK to post a couple of hands a week, something like that? I'm conscious that I don't know enough to help others yet, so I'd be a net taker of knowledge, if that makes sense, reading but not posting on other posters' threads (unlike posters like you who are net givers, sharing more knowledge than you gain).

Had my best volume day today, managed to play 60 hypers (my daily challenge is 20). I ran pretty good too. Bad news is I'm back to work on Tuesday after the Xmas break, so doubt I'll be able to put as many games in for a while after this weekend.

Since my last post, I've cashed out the majority of my bankroll and have moved down to the $1.50 hypers, the lowest stake available on Stars. I dropped 15BI at the $3.50s and realised (1) I have a lot of learning to do and it's best to learn as cheaply as possible and (2) I'm not comfortable losing over $50 in one go right now.

I've been 1tabling since then and focusing on learning rather than grinding. It finally occurred to me that you can't "grind" if you can't beat the games. I've decided not to pay for coaching or video packs, but to get plenty of experience. The challenge I've set for myself is to beat the $1.50s and move up to the $3.50s when the time comes. The satisfaction I'll get from improving my game to the point where I can beat a stake will be extremely rewarding, I hope - because it'll take ages!

I've been doing a bit of reading pessimistic 2p2 posts and articles online about how the good old days of building a BR online are long gone. If true, that's a shame because I've always loved the idea of putting lots of hours into the game, improving and taking on higher and higher stakes as I get better. If HUSNGs are botted at reasonable stakes, if there aren't many fish or even many regs (5 hypers per hour at slow times, or less, seems to be the case), if it becomes a case of battling good regs with no rakeback to make up for it, then it may well be the case that there's a cap on how far I can progress. I'm OK with that actually. My challenge now is small: play a lot and learn how to beat the $1.50 hypers. We can go from there

Here's my graph so far since moving down. All over the place

I'm naturally pessimistic, so I can't help wishing I'd made this effort in 2012-2015 when HUSNGs still seemed very buoyant. I was a student then and had plenty of time. Oh well. I'll keep going, but if anyone wants to drop some good news or an optimistic view about online poker/HUSNGs, it'd be appreciated (but I'm not holding my breath!).

It's a pretty free run up to $7s on stars, after that it gets a bit dicier because of the divisions. That said, there are plenty of weak regs in the 15s group, and with some work it's achievable to get in. 15s still has pretty fine traffic, it only really starts to dry up from 30s+, so there's plenty of upside still. You won't get rich playing 7s or 15s, but it's still very possible to turn husngs into a hobby or side hustle that consistently nets you $10-$15/hr, which ain't bad if you enjoy playing.

I don't think the husng landscape is particularly good, but I also think there's plenty of upside looking from $1.50s. Don't worry about it too much.

Got some decent volume in this week, despite being back to work and having to adjust to the post-Xmas sleep pattern!

I haven't noticed much difference in the quality of opponents since moving down from the $3.50s. I'm going to go through my HH and do a proper review on Saturday; the focus atm is playing 20 games each evening, single-tabling and learning what I can.

(Side note - I'm finding it nearly impossible to avoid the temptation of checking my results graph after most sessions. Does anyone have any tips on how they avoid this? I hide my cashier in the PS client, which definitely helps, but can't block myself from clicking onto this graph!).

Anyway, here are my results (in BI) at the $1.50s so far in 2020. I'm running pretty good and still making lots of mistakes so I don't take any comfort, and in fact I won't post another graph here for a while I think!

barrat - are you still playing? Anyone else grinding the micros hyper husng?

I challenged myself to play 3.000 hypers on stars, 90% $3.5s, some $7 shots...

Like the game a lot but now what? move up 7s and then try to get in the 15s devision or change over to spins? I am a bit sad to see the husng forum is pretty dead. Where is the action 2020+ gonna be?
