Hi, I'm Chema and I am a 24 year-old poker player based on London. After playing poker as a breakeven low-stakes MTTer for a couple years, I decided to switch to the cash game grind at the end of 2020. The main reasons for that being the ability to start and stop whenever I want, the fact that it is a more structured game and study, and that I don’t have to anti-sweat myself one-tabling the 5.50 Mini Marathon after a -$600 Sunday.

I moved my roll to Partypoker and started 6-tabling 25ff under the sratscuf alias. The RB, leaderboards and overall financial improvement allowed me to move up to 50ff were I established myself as some sort of reg, although definitely far away from the grinders with the most volume. Give me a shout if you recognise the screenname.

After being away from the tables for a few months on holiday with the girlfriend, Party removed the leaderboards and the cut-off position, so it is time to move back to good ol’ Amaya where I plan to play 50z for the near future.

I have grinded for a few days already (literally zero screennames tagged), but with a new RB challenge starting today it seems fitting to start a thread just about now.

My only goal for now is to complete the 5x challenge before the June 9th deadline. Once that is done I will take a look at the rake-back, win-rate, volume etc. and stablish more concise goals around that for the rest of the summer.

Expect the occasional graph, rants, thoughts, tunes and a bit of strat talk.

Cheers guys, gl at the tables!

glgl bro! For sure the quality of life of playing zoom cash games is much better than having to grind MTTs 24/7.

Looking forward to some updates and some coold hands, subbed!

Thanks man! I should be able to update every Sunday when I review the week and I open the LOLCHESTS. Will of course drop the occasional weird spot as well or whatever random stuff comes up! GL

Thanks man! I always wondered what the skill level and reg:fish ratio is in NL16, I don't think I have ever played a hand of it. Honestly nothing in that sense would surprise me. Hope you can move one step up in the raketrap ladder! GL

Just realized the video didn’t link properly, what a noob. Great way to start the thread. It was the clip of Summertime Sadness by Lana del Rey, been vibing to her quite a lot lately, which I would have never expected to.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TdrL3QxjyVw

Used Day 1 of the challenge as a little rest day to kill the tournament bug - bricked the $109 PKO and the other two $22, nothing new there. I also reinstalled PT4, since I never used it when grinding Party.

I played a couple hands to make sure everything imports fine, which luckily it does. The first big grind of the challenge should come tomorrow. It will probably be a hungover start of the session, something that I like. I’ve noticed that being aware that I am not 100% helps me improve my focus, since I know that I am not ready and therefore I have to concentrate more to compensate. Don’t know if that makes sense but I’ll just drop it there. Expect some nice little graphs, hopefully the red line and the green one will both trend in the same direction!

Again, the goal is to rake $5,000 4-tabling 50 NLz before June 9th, which should be doable even without playing a single hand of NL100 or adding reg tables.

Pretty disgraceful start to the volume channel… Being back in London with everything open makes it hard to put in the volume and stay disciplined.

Meant to put a long session on Sunday but my mate convinced me to go day-drinking and staying up for 39 hours straight. Obviously that destroys from Sunday to Tuesday, and the posterior hangover makes life draining. Still managed to put on a few little sessions here and there but having completed 12% of the challenge when I should be around 30% makes it pretty much impossible.

https://gyazo.com/92ce3f85f6d552b6915af417eea2e417

I am happy to know that the badregs have confirmed the way I perceive the meta-game in NL50 is correct, and simplifying my preflop game and my BUvBB is the way to go. I also love that I’ve found plenty of pure fish and badregs even at day sessions, so it’s not a concern that the better regs are raping me.

Also, has anyone ever lost both boards when running wheel suited aces versus KK-QQ AIPF? Is that even possible? I feel like I’ve been unlucky when I don’t scoop ‘

I will review some hands on Sunday and post them here, since I’ve had no time to check PT4 so far. Hopefully I find something interesting. Will put a long session tonight and tomorrow morning, then might hope on some live comp tomorrow eve as a little reward if I do manage to put the volume I want.

16nl is very soft! Kinda depends on the time you're playing but usually there are only a couple decent regs and the rest are fish, nits and bad regs

Nice graph def get that volume up!

Down 10 buyins in a day plus bricked the live comp heavily... I am not one to be tilted easily but today definitely feels rough... Plus Bitcoin...

Going to take a break and enjoy a nice little Sunday with the Monaco GP and two NBA playoff games at reasonable times, that should be a good one.

Planning on taking a week off to just study, plan/redistribute my finances, and be back at the beginning of June with solid set-on-stone goals around volume and health to be achieved by the end of July.

Good week off the online felt. Rested, studied, and jumped on a live comp where I finished 5th for 2.2k after satelliting for 50 quid.

Healthier bankroll and fresh study made me shot-take NL100 this morning, losing 6 buyins. Classic.

Back to the bread-and-butter of the NL50 streets, and I will probably hop in the $55 Bounty Series Main Event.

Continued the study grind, comparing theory with population tendencies and how to adjust. In short, attack capped ranges and realize that overbet bluffs do not need to work that often to be profitable.

Barely played any hands online. The horrible shot take from a couple weeks ago made me focus a bit more on the study and I have been enjoying it a lot.

I hopped on another little comp at the vic and finished 2nd for 3700 USD. Time for another NL100 shottake tomorrow.

The 10 BI shot take has gone well, making 3000 dollars in 2 weeks only playing NL100. Out of those 3000, 440 are from rakeback, so in reality it is a 25 BI upswing. I am running incredibly pure, I feel like a cow on fire everytime I open the tables which is pretty damn fun.

I have also straight up uninstalled PokerTracker in order to stop looking at the graph every 10 minutes. I did not use the HUD anyways so not that big of a deal.

Still no goals set on stone, although I am focusing on going one session at a time working on 2-3 things that I believe are leaks of mine. For example, if I know I call too many rivers, I will focus on purposefully overfolding the river, which is never too bad at these stakes anyways.

The timeline for now is pretty clear. Grind and grind until July 25th, which is the day I go on holiday with my girlfriend, or until the original 10 BI shot (now 40) is gone. Then I will re-install the tracker and see what the graph looks like in terms of volume and hourly. Then I will make a decision based on that about whether pursuing poker full-time is a solid choice or not.

I am also keeping the chests unopened until one or two days before they expire. Really looking forward to opening them tbh.

Until July 25th, no graphs, although I do hope to update the thread more frequently and share some hands over here.

40 BI quickly down to 28 lol. Scared cashout time, left stars with 10 BI.

Once these 10 buyins are gone / moved up I will import the hands and reevaluate. Am I skilled enough for NL100? It will probably have been too small a sample to guarantee. Am I rolled enough to be able to comfortably play 200k hands at NL100, or should I just stick to good-old NL50?

The way I moved up between stakes was shot-taking 10 buy-ins and running well enough in that shot in order to then stablish myself as a reg and grind that stake comfortably for my real hourly. If I lost 300 dollars at NL25 I would not flick an eye, but the thought of smacking 1200 bucks in the hole in one day does not feel good (even though in my situation 1200 dollars is less of my net worth than 300 was back in NL25 times).

Probably the only issue is the mental game. Anyways, the scared cashout has already been done and I will only grind these 10 buy-ins now. Once gone it will be time to look at the graph and my finances and reevaluate.

GL at the table lads, sorry for the random rant lol

Nice little month for the bois.

Did not play nearly as much as I wanted to because of the Euros, but I still managed to put okay volume.

50 hours, 37k hands, $600 dollar profit (although running a grand over EV lol). The graph does not include $1700 in rakeback which is what I am indeed playing for.

https://gyazo.com/9cf8c68b303722803eee3b4702f8b3a4

I did not get selected for the 65% rakeback but I think with the black chests and the challenges I got pretty close to that figure.

I have however been selected for the .ES rewards trial, so the plan now is to grind 35k hands until the 23rd (with a break tomorrow for the euros and Thursday for GUKPT), then go on holiday with the gf, then back to her place in France to grind .ES.

Again sorry for not posting hands. Literally I do 0 review or off the table study. Maybe when the cash-out curse hits I will think about it.

Anyways.

- $2300 month (only in RB + 100z).
- Play 35k hands before the 23rd

Huge LOL at myself for trying to play 35k hands in 2 weeks. Ended up dragging myself across the floor on Monday and Tuesday after the Euros. Then busted 3 bullets of the 560 GUKPT on Wed Thu and Fri x2. Then I was absorbing liquid like a sponge on the weekend and now here we are, having played 8k hands in 2 weeks. Sad.

At least I still run like a cow on fire. 12 buy-ins in 8k hands at NL100z.

Back in the grind, back in the capitaaaaal.

Played for a bit on Party to clear a bonus after about 9 months. Sad to see that getting rid of the leaderboards reduced the volume of players a lot. On the other hand, it did feel like the level at 100 NLff now is pretty similar to what 25NLff was last year. It was also nice to play with a software that is not laggy as f*ck. Unfortunately with Stars now doing the Monthly challenges it's just not worth it for me to play at Party if I am not grinding Diamond Club Elite.

When I started taking poker more seriously and grinding 25NL a bit harder I always had this endgoal of having a 10,000 dollars roll and going full time. I never took into account that rather than having a bankroll to play whatever games your BRM allows you, you need to actually WIN at the games you are playing. Once you are winning you can extract your hourly and decide whether that is enough to sustain your lifestyle or not.

The 10,000 goal has been passed and now it is time to see if I can actually beat NL100 and potentially pursuit going full time by the end of the year. I do understand the sample so far is pretty LOL and I've been running like a demigod, but in December the actual winrate will be more clear.

***

Next steps:
- Keep better track of different sources of income (especially if at some point the salary one might be gone)
- Update thread more frequently, after every 1-2 sessions with hands/thoughts + monthly recap
- Get more active in Discords / study groups

Anotha day another dollaaaaa!

Big WCOOP Sunday around here.

Around -300 for the day in tournies and break even in cash games which is what provides the food. Happy to see the games are still good although is pretty annoying that a chest that used to be 25000 points is now 335,000, 13x more. I hope they sort their rewards program properly.

2p2 hand history converter keeps giving me an error so not gonna post any, plus my head is pretty fried.

Good luck out there, will check back in next week.

Pretty frustrating start to the month but still some positives to take out.

I have been mixing NL100z and a bit WCOOP and I am really really burnt out. I am getting nothing from fish and every time I am in a pot with a reg they end up getting the best of me (probably because they are better but I am still gonna whine). I have a constant headache that starts around midday with my usual job and carries on to the evening session. My mind is switched off and I am just clicking buttons and not thinking range v range. I do not think about the game, which is what I enjoy about poker (rather than chasing flushes or flopped sets and getting there) and because of that my game is ****. That again leads to the bottom line of burning the balance at the same speed as my mood.

Because of all this I decided to look at the graph, which I do not like doing before end of month, and reset my mind to climb it back in the next 24 days. To my surprise, there is pretty much nothing to climb back:

https://gyazo.com/29e85dbff8d0c0adb314216e110082ec

I thought I was down 7-10 buyins from looking at my balance but it turns out it is just 2. Happy days. Clicking that re-entry button in this WCOOP has been more expensive than expected and I'm down $700 from donkas. #MTTLIFE

The positive note is that despite playing my D-game over 15000 hands I am just break even and I have built some history with good regs that 100% think I am a radio station. I do understand it is a lolsample but there have been quite a few sigh losing calls that I believe are what make or break that bb/100.

September comes to an end and so does my poker break (poker hospital as this Aspers lady calls it).

Pretty dry month in terms of online zoom. I felt pretty burned out after a couple weeks, plus I did not have the guarantee I would make the goal for the 40% rakeback so I decided not to play at all for a couple weeks.

September:

https://gyazo.com/10cb8026cebd51ea36a7e924760271e9

I also started tracking my tennis betting, horse betting and matched betting. Results below:

Matched betting: +$760.50
Horse betting: (-$618.44)
Tennis betting: +$38.45

I've been out in the live felt for a while this past couple weeks and I felt really comfortable out there. Had an 800 GBP session at 2/5/10, a couple +400 at 2/5 and a couple breakeven at 1/2. I did brick pretty hard a few tournaments, so the balance for these past couple weeks is up low three figures. Live cash is boring as ****, I will tell you that much. Plus the variance playing 25 hands an hour doesn't help. Anyways, people play with their cards face up so who gives a f u c k.

The thread is called Summertime Sadness and now that the leaves start to fall it is time to do a recap.

I planned on putting quite a bit of volume at NL50 but a couple of good live scores allowed me to take a shot at NL100. I ran like a cow on fire and managed to stick the shot and become a pseudo NL100z reg over the Summer. Over 100,000 hands I am a winner pre-rakeback without barely putting any study. I do undertand it is a LOLSample but it still gives me a lot of confidence to pursue going full time in January of 2022. I would be able to easily put 100,000 hands in one month, so even though it took me 3 months to play this much part-time, this could be considered one pretty standard 30-day period for a professional.

The grind continues. I feel more motivated than ever and I plan on grinding NL100z throughout October. If things go well, I will take my first serious NL200z shot at the beginning of November.

Pretty disastrous 5 days LOL.

After my last post I was quite hyped about grinding hard until the first week of December and decided to reward myself booking tickets to go to Prague to play the EPT 1k and some side events / cash.

In the 5 days that follow I lost about 15 buy ins at NL100z, lost another 1500 in IRL expenses plus betting plus booking travels and a f u c k i n g car ran over my foot. The guy even had the balls to stay on it and told me that it is his road and that I have no business there. I love London but mate there are some characters around here.

Anyways time to deposit again to get the inverted cashout curse.

Definitely the most brutal month of my life. I only played 30,000 hands but I definitely felt like I was getting wrecked left right and centre. The other sources did not help.

I also hit my deposit limit in Stars which I didn't even know I had one. I had to play the last 10,000 hands with 7 buyins in my account, or I would not get the cashback. Luckily I managed to sun-run at the end and got some back.

All in all, I am happy when I exported the graph today and I saw that graph + cashback was only a $900 loss. Got some confidence back at the end of the month and now I'm ready to get on with November.

November cliffs

- Go to Granada 4th to 7th November with the GF

- Get back and complete 2 Stars challenges (=obtain $2,400 of RB + chests in approx 60,000 hands)

- Reduce amount of online and live tournaments. Only play some side online timbeys on Sunday + some online Prague qualifiers. Re. live, just stick to the big ones. No point on wasting a random Tuesday night in a casino. I will deffo play the 2 day 500 pound GUKPT, and a couple qualifiers for the 2k, but that's about it.

- Update the thread more frequently (couple hands, random rant, anything fits!)

- Give the developing tennis algorithm one last chance before dropping it in the bin for good.

Anyways, happy October is over.

Happy halloween, gl at the tables ladsssssssss

Another month in the calendar, another month that we get our balls handed.

November had a solid start with the 4-day trip to Granada, where beers are 2 euros plus they give you a solid meal for free with it. They also have a pretty big ski resort which we didn’t go to, although my graph did fancy a nice d a m n skiing holiday.

November graph:

Online cash: (-1528.75 USD)
Rakeback: +1700 USD
Tennis + football algorithm: (-722.55 USD)
Matched betting: +382.62 USD
Horse betting: (-381.02 USD)
Online tournies: (-426.88 USD)
Live tournies: +439.82 USD
Live cash: +147.94 USD
Total November: (-388.82)

A quick peek at my total graph shows a 190,000 hands player that is a:
1.- Sunrunner
2.- Clear loser
Down $1,400 cash and down $4443 in EV over that sample, although up $7,840 thanks to rakeback. I´ll take it.

This couple rough months take me to the conclusion that December will be about mainly hitting the lab and take a few shots. This is the December playing package:

Vic 26 Nov 560 GBP
EPT Satty 28 Nov 162 EUR
Online NL100 1 Dec 10BI
Big 20 5 Dec (2 bullets) 110 USD
EPT National 9 Dec 1,100 EUR
EPT Cup 11 Dec 330 EUR

Even if I manage to bust all this I will still have 70 buy ins for NL100z at the beginning of the year, which actually l’m buzzing about. Plus a lot more knowledge from focusing on studying over December.

***

All in all, pretty cruel past two months but I feel in a really good place mentally to start 2022 knowing that I am taking a big shot that will not really hurt my bankroll, and that I will come back home in January a much better player.

Pretty full weekend.

Got the news that EPT was cancelled. Pretty annoying but watcha gonna do. At least that is 1500 euros that I manage to save.

I made day 2 of the 500 but busted 100th with 68 paid and $103,000 up top. I did get bad beat but I also won a flip for my tournament life in literally my 3rd hand so who am I to complain.

The plan remains the same. A bit of play each day of December but the main focus is on the LAB.
