Did your win rate go up when you quit smoking marijuana ? Did your win rate go up when you quit smoking marijuana ?

I have smoked pot just about every day for the last 35 years. I recently gave it up... last week I played live for the first time in my life without weed. I did good.

I have heard it said that your poker win rate will go up if you quit smoking marijuana, and maybe that is true. Wondering if there are others here who smoked a ton and then gave it up... how did it affect your poker game?

I took fewer breaks, maybe I was concentrating better, duno. Appreciate any feedback the lack of pot has had on your poker results.

I have enjoyed using my poker winnings to buy more weed, but it has affected my ability to move up in stakes. Hoping to really climb the ladder now.

Thx, take care..

GL quitting man. Took me a while to recover and had some pretty gnarly nightmares for about 6 months.

Oh man true dat! Wild crazy dreams going on every night.. Its been over a month since I quit the wacky weed and dang.... just intense dreams. Oh well, all good, part of the process.

But by doing without weed, I see myself becoming a much better poker player, more time to study, and less "cashing out" my bankroll for the sole purpose of buying more pot.

Anyone else find more poker success after they quit long term weed use?

Thx, cheers...

Good job imo. Coming from a stoner at heart, I think being sober is under rated. Especially in poker. I think being high all the time definitely holds you back.

Probably a good idea to stop. Good luck.

Spoiler:
Although I would have thought your winrate would be more high on weed.

Well I can certainly understand that sentiment. Many a time playing live after a suckout or whatever I'd take a break and step outside and smoke a bowl.. which would always help.

But is marijuana the best way to help with tilt control?

Five years ago I became a yoga addict and have since attended over 500 hot hatha yoga classes. From there, I have learned much about how controlled deep breathing and mindfulness can help in so many areas of our lives.

Tommy Angelo says the same thing in his books The Elements of Poker, Painless Poker and Dailyness : How to Sustain a Meditation Practice.

These days I find those practices to be -much- more effective with life stresses than just smoking yet another bowl. YMMVOC

Bottom line is I don't feel the need to smoke weed anymore when the going gets tough... at least that is the plan anyway... and hopefully I'll find more success in poker as a result.

Thx for all the responses, much appreciated!

Cheers
