Spade straykatbluz 2013 MTT's - USING NUMBERS ON THE CARDS TO MAKE NUMBERS IN THE BANK

what's up all, straykat here. Decided to make a thread to track my progress this year.

p5's: http://www.pocketfives.com/profiles/straykatbluz/

20 years old from NSW, Australia. (about an hour from Sydney)

Poker History:
started playing in 2010 playing the smallest stakes SNGS and a bit of cash on full tilt (sometimes thinking I was ballah and playing 1/2 rush, which actually didnt go so bad sometimes.) also live $10 freezeouts, with the odd $50 deepstack, 2 of which I managed to win for around $400 each. I never had any withdrawals online though, only deposits. As black friday happened I was probably down a total of maybe 1k online, and up maybe 1-2k from live. I had a very basic ABC idea of how to play the game, but knew nothing about ranges and what hands I can 3 bet and playing aggressive and stuff like that etc, I was just waiting for monsters, playing my cards and not the opponents.

Black Friday didnt really bother me that much cause I didnt play online as much as live and even though we got stars back fairly quick in Aus it didnt really concern me. I had no thoughts at all of wanting to become a proper online player. I finished school in 2010 and even though i was working and had money during 2011 I very rarely deposited. I just didnt really care for poker I guess. Although looking back on 2011, it would have been a great time for me to have started depositing more online , because I had $$ but it just never really occured to me. I started getting into online more in 2012 when my room mate moved in who was doing/does pretty well at MTTs. But at the time I had barely any $$ so I use to do deposits of 20-100 once a fortnight or something and played only micros, going as high as maybe an $8 haha. I had one final table over like 200 games and was just always running bad and getting so sick of it. My biggest score was $260 for a $5 hyper (which i was staked for LOL)

Recently:
The last couple months has been so sick for me in regards to poker. Once I started getting better I was putting in more volume by November/December and playing $11's and 16.50 etc and on December 2nd I shipped my first tourney. But heres a look at how my December went.

December 1st till now.

sorry about the quality, but the amount at the top is 9k and its over 700 games.

I had around 17 final tables including 4 wins and some other pretty good places/cashes:

1st / 1,885 - the big $16.50 - $4,520
1st / 674 - $3.30 1R1A - $860
1st / 627 - $3.30 1R1A - $821
(a fortnight to the day apart)
1st / 1,230 - $3.30 turbo - $630
2nd / 501 - $3.30R+ - $540
2nd / 256 - $8.80 Turbo 2x chance - $392
2nd / 308 - $4.40 8 max - $200
3rd / 1,104 - $11 Turbo - $1,105
3rd / 592 - $4.40 2R1A - $640
3rd / 340 - $4.40 8 max - $150
6th / 623 - $4.40 2R1A - $290
7th / 229 - $11 1R1A - $230

plus a bunch a few others including 3 midnight madness FT's on full tilt in less than 10 days. Full tilt tournies aren't included on the HEM graph, but theres only a few hundred missing.

At the start of January I got staked by "thepokerbackers" for MTT's. It's a stable of 11 players and it's awesome. Guys who run it are young but really professional and commited to helping their players and you can tell they enjoy what they do. It's been awesome since day one. I'm in for 4k games at 400 games a month. Includes coaching and hopefully moving up stakes as my progress goes on (which is one of my big goals this year). I play MTT's up to $33, turbos up to $11 and rebuys up to $11. Have deferred University (bachelor of arts major in writing) to play poker this year.

Goals:
* reach 50k total earnings
* win 10 tournaments
* move up in stakes
* this is a long stretch but i'd like to have enough in the bank to be able to go over to the WSOP this year and play some of the smaller tourneys including non WSOP ones. I went to Vegas early 2012 and it sucked not being able to play cause I was 20, so would love to go back over. (figure i'll need like 5-10k?

I spose this is more of a way to just be able to track how I'm going for myself but if anyone else is interested in reading about and can get anything out of it then thats awesome.

Feel free to ask any questions or whatever.

Pretty sure you'll know who I am after you read it.

Impressive results, hope to see more man. We should definitely talk strat, you're probably the closest person to me that takes poker as seriously as I do.

Re: straykatbluz 2013 thread, staked in MTT's

Took 3rd in an $11 (7.5k) today for $880. 900 entrants, 15min blinds. One guy had an overwhelming chiplead but I feel i still couldve gotten better than third. Stacks were like 1.5 mil, 650k (me) and 500k. The bb had 3 bet my sb raises like 5 times in a row so on the last one i 4 bet jammed K6ss down his throat thinking id see a snap fold but he called off with 88. Regretted the shove pretty soon after. First was about 1.65k which wouldve been my 2nd biggest cash ever but ah well, its only the first of many final tables to come this year.

profit for day: $864
total cashes: $15,738

This is an excellent way to improve. Coaching, self review while being flexible to change and this for accountability and you'll progress rapidly. GL buddy!

Good luck with your goals. Is there a markup for being staked?

nah just straight up 50/50. Goes to 55/45 and 60/40 once 50k and 100k earnings is reached

Started with about 4 tournies today, was still regging but wasn't really feeling it so unregged everything. 2 tables left so just gonna finish them off and then have a day off. Feels like a Call of Duty kinda day

Re: straykatbluz 2013 thread, staked in MTT's

Long Overdue Update:

Poker has been going great since I last updated about a month ago. Will try to keep it more regular from now on. There's lots of good news that I'll write about in chronological order as it happened from the 25th Jan till now.

25th Jan
I final tabled the $4.40 8 max but took 7th. Same day ft'd the $5.50 2R1A and took 6th in that for $225.

5th Feb
I got 2nd in a $8.80 6 max Turbo for $760. I forget the final hand but I know we got it in with evenish stacks and I had him dominated but lost, AQ vs KQ I think it might have been. I finished 7th in an $11 6 max which was disappointing but ended the day on a high note with a 1st place in a $3.30 1R1A for $810, which I've won 2 other separate times since December.

8th Feb
On the 8th February the ANZOPS series started (Australian New Zealand Online Series of Poker).
I took 18th in Event #1 - $22 2x chance Turbo for $100.

There was a leaderboard for Player of The Series aswell, 1st place recieved a $2200 ANZPT Main Event seat, 2-9 got $215 T dollars on stars, but more on that later :P

10th Feb
Two days later on the 10th I shipped Event #3 - $33 NL Holdem (12k) for $2,300. Managed to find a lot of good 3 and 4 bet spots in the final 30 or so and chipped up really nicely and entered the final table as chipleader. An important pot for the win was 8 handed when a 110k stack raised to about 15k, I 3bet to 42k and the guy to my left shoved 100k in, I was obviously snap calling him with JJ here as I had over 500k, I actually didn't even notice at the time, but the original raiser called off his last 100k or so and I snapped thinking I was just up against the 4 bet jammer. It ended up being my JJ vs the 88 of 4bet jammer and the AA of original raiser. The board ran out Q 7 3 5 J giving me the pot and the huge chiplead with 6 left. Sick river but I still wouldve been 1/7 if the J didnt hit, and the table was soft and I think I still would've taken it down without that pot.

12th Feb
I had a nice run in a 3k entrant $26 deepstack Knockout on Full Tilt. I think it was around 12k for first but I finished short in 35th or so for $130

13th Feb
I shipped the Big $16.50 for the second time for $4400. I had a 3.2mil to 2.3mil chip advantage heads up but went for a deal as we were still relatively deep, and the player was a good reg, not that I'm not confident in my heads up game, quite the opposite, but I'd been one tabling the game for hours and was tired, plus didn't feel it was worth losing $800 to try and take an extra $300. 1st 4700, 2nd 3500. So I took 4300 and he took 3900. Seemed like a fair deal.

15th Feb
Two nights later on the 15th I got heads up in Event 8# of the ANZOPS - $11R+ 6 max. We started heads up with 900k each, within about 15 minutes I've easily taken most of his chips and am sitting with 1.4mil to his 250k. He raises the button, I 3bet shove A6ss and he tank calls Q6dd. I sat back in my chair waiting for the cards to come, thinking "I've got a 2nd title if there's no Q". The Q comes in the window and crushes me but before I could get too upset the flop showed A 5 Q. Beautiful, 2 outs, don't do it.
A 5 Q 8
boom, one more card, come on, DON'T DO IT, IT'S NOT GOING TO TO DO IT. SURELY? IT JUST CAN'T???
A 5 Q 8 Q

From there he chipped up a little bit before getting it in with evenish stacks, my A10, his A8o. Of course he flops the 8 and holds. Have never been more tilted than I was after that much, especially losing to a complete donk like that, it didn’t feel good. $600 difference between 1st and 2nd but I took $1,530 for 2nd.

So like I said, there was a leaderboard for Player of The Series and after my 1st place in event 3#, I took the number 1 position. This 2nd place gave me a strong lead but there was still 2 events to go and a lot of people could over take me with a deep run in the $215 Main Event, which would be worth more points than other events.

16th Feb
I played ANZOPS Event 9# $11R+. I took 15th in this in a really gross pot, me and the other chipleader of our table got in a huge pot for 180bbs and the chiplead, the board read A 10 8 2 2, three clubs, and I had 67cc. The way it played out I was so positive he had A10, AQ or AK. Especially when he bet the turn small and flatted my 3 bet. Then leads 30k into 110k on the river. I 3bet shoved river for 100k and he snapped off with A7cc. Gross.

17th Feb
I played the $215 Main Event and bubbled 5 from the money in a ridiculous hand against another Aussie donk haha. I 3 bet a button raise on the big blind with K8hh, to about 4200 with 19k behind. He flats and the flop comes Qh 3h 3c, so I have a flush draw and an over. I bet about 5k into 12k, leaving 13k behind, obviously never folding, and he just decides that in that 3 bet pot his 77 had to be the best hand, so he shoves and I call it off and brick turn and river 5 from the money, about $350 for min cash I think.

__________________

It's been a really good February so far, 8.3k in cashes just for the 16.50 and 1st and 2nd in the ANZOPS. Which by the way, I won Player of The Series for, so I got the $2200 Main Event ticket for the Sydney ANZPT on the 21st March. Probably going to sell off half my action, will probably make a post in the marketplace once I've got enough posts up and am able to.

Last time I updated total cashes: $15,738
Current: $28,901

Running horrid the last 2 days. Been putting in big volume, 8-12 tables, 12 hour stretches but always getting coolered or sucked out on. Havent had a single final table, eughhh

Thought I had no shot at getting gold status back this month but it turns out Im only 1k points away. I can get about 150 in a day from a big session so its going to take playing every single day for the rest of Feb.

So disgusting Just busted the Big $33 in 12th. Was 5/12 with 340k at 2600/5200. I raise KK UTG to 12000. Mid pos 3 bets to 29k. Folds to me, I 4 bet to 68,200. He flats with a similar stack to start hand (325kish)
Flop 10 8 7. I bet 82k, he snap ships and I snap call. He has QQ.
Board
10 8 7 Q 6
For the chiplead with 11 left, $7,150 for first.

Re: straykatbluz 2013 thread, staked in MTT's

Been playing 8-12 hour stretches lately, then hanging out/sleeping, waking up and going again. Need 580 points to reach gold star status by the 28th. Its gonna be close.

Gonna keep playing this cycle for the rest of the month but I'm running like ****. havent had an FT in like 200 games. Continually getting sucked out on like KK vs AQ, THE ACE IS COMING!!! Everytime, 3 outers are happening atleast 80% of the time, its just a joke. But working on trying to keep a level head and let the tilt wash away while I play.
