Sticking to My Goals

To be honest, I don't think I've ever achieved more than like two goals I've set for myself in any month. It's time to stick to the goals I make for myself in February. If I'm ever going to succeed at poker discipline is key. I plan to update this every few days with my progress and some key hands.

I'm playing full ring 5NL on FTP. Bankroll is at $162.30 with 14,636.44 FT points. Here are my goals for the month:

-Stay away from RUSH POKER!!! Rush poker has kicked my ass, I don't know what I'm doing different but it gutted me for half the month of January until I switched back over to regular full ring.
-Play 30k hands for the month. The most hands I think I've ever played any month is like 28k. 30k should not be hard at all if I stay dedicated in any type of way. 50k shouldn't be that hard if I play enough.
-Move up from 5NL to 10NL or higher. I can start taking shots now, but I've always been a bit of a bankroll nit.
-Get bronze iron man or higher. I've gotten bronze a few times, this is definitely do-able.
-Overall make at least $100 in profit including rakeback and bonuses. If I'm putting in the right volume this shouldn't be an issue.
-Keep doing sweats, session review, post HH's, read poker books and just study my game as much as possible to keep improving. Getting complacent with my game should not be happening at the levels I play.
-Stay focused during each session, limit distractions and stop playing if I'm not completely into it.

That's it for now, good luck at the tables.

Re: Sticking to My Goals

All sounds good. I should set myself a goal like this. How many tables you play?

Re: Sticking to My Goals

I play between 10-12 tables depending on how I feel. The first book that I'm going to read is "The Poker Blueprint" by Aaron Davis and Tri Nguyen. Hope to start that tonight or tomorrow. I've been putting that off for a while as well. Going to start my first session of February in a few minutes here.

Re: Sticking to My Goals

Well ended up waiting today to play first sesh of Feb, wasn't feeling up to playing last night. That said, first session was 557 hands and I finished down 23 cents lol.

Here's one hand, not sure how I played this.

Full Tilt Poker $0.02/$0.05 No Limit Hold'em - 9 players
The Official 2+2 Hand Converter By DeucesCracked Poker Videos

Hero (BB): $4.93
UTG: $9.79
UTG+1: $5.79
UTG+2: $2.98
MP1: $5.20
MP2: $5.00
CO: $9.21
BTN: $2.69
SB: $5.00

Pre Flop: ($0.07) Hero is BB with T T
6 folds, BTN raises to $0.10, 1 fold, Hero calls $0.05

Flop: ($0.22) 7 5 5 (2 players)
Hero checks, BTN bets $0.18, Hero raises to $0.55, BTN calls $0.37

Turn: ($1.32) 4 (2 players)
Hero bets $1, BTN calls $1

River: ($3.32) 3 (2 players)
Hero checks, BTN checks

Spoiler:

Preflop I think maybe a 3b instead of just set mining. Looking back TT is a bad hand to play OOP. Besides that what does anyone think about the hand?

Will be playing some more tonight, so I'm sure I'll run into some more interesting spots to post.

Re: Sticking to My Goals

would have raised preflop, bet the flop but this would have probably been very bad knowing he had QQ

Re: Sticking to My Goals

Quick update, have played 2600 hands this month, so behind schedule. Played about half of them today, so getting back on track. Having a little bit of a downturn, -4 buy-ins so far in February. Not a lot of key hands, just think I need to get back to the basics. Could be calling down too light on the river I think. Def did that with AA in today's session when it was a clear laydown. Am going to look for a sweat tomorrow, see if someone else can pick up on something I may be doing wrong or have changed.

Started reading the Poker Blueprint and I'm liking it so far.

Re: Sticking to My Goals

I'm reviving this thread back from the grave! I hadn't even looked at this thing from my last post until today. I'm sure I failed miserably at my goal for February, quite frankly I can't remember. I was going to make a new thread starting for November, but I don't think there's any need for that.

A ton has changed since the last time I was in here. My play has improved by a bunch. I actually started grinding STT turbos in March and built up to about $280 when BF hit. Bummer, I was putting in some decent volume and showing a profit. I didn't play online poker for about a week before I was so bored I didn't know what to do with myself. Loaded $100 on merge and dabbled here and there not taking it very seriously. June hits and I decide to play 4nl FR. I ran maybe.... .7pt/bb. It was not good. I was winning...but what was the point lol. Got myself a good coach, have our own skype group and forums. Some great resources and someone is almost always available to discuss hands with you. My game took off after that. TBH I haven't even really put that much time into improving. I don't post hands, I watch very few vids. The only thing I do really is discuss certain situations and theories with a few skype buddies and have had some coaching sessions. I don't put in a ton of volume either, we will get into that for my goals.

Soon after getting my coach I switched to Bodog and 6max. Man I love 6max compared to FR. So much better. Way more hands, more action, just better all around. Only thing that sucked was 4 tables max. Thing is, I believe that really helped me improve my game. I faired pretty well at 5nl and 10nl...took some shots at 25nl and failed. Not sure if it was just ill timed run bad or if I changed my game or what, but had some trouble. This month I put some of my roll on to Everleaf. On Everleaf it's really basically just 4max that runs at 10nl so I've been adjusting to that, only up a little bit with rakeback helping.

I decided to cash out the money that I had deposited just in case something happened with it getting locked down or whatever. Now I'm just playing with strictly profit, this way if something happens to the sites I won't feel awful about losing it.

Enough background, that was pretty long, I'll get into what I want to do in the future in my next post.

Re: Sticking to My Goals

If all goes according to plan this will chronicle my poker journey from 10nl up, and also my live ventures. Every now and then I'll throw in some random live 1/2 when I can, and some tourneys.

My volume sucks. I average around 15k hands a month. I have dreams of doing this for a living, especially after poker gets regulated in the USA. I always tell myself I'll get to 25k hands for the month or so, but it never happens. The most hands I've ever played in a month was ~28k. That was maybe 2 years ago when I was unemployed.

I have been planning to go to Vegas in the summer of 2012 during the WSOP. Obviously in my current situation I won't be playing any WSOP events, but they have a bunch of good smaller events that run during the same time. Cash is my main game, obviously will be playing a lot of 1/2 if and when I go. Taking this trip depends on how I do leading up to the summer.

I'll be playing 10nl (4nl off peak times) 4max and 6max on Everleaf as well as 10nl 6max on Bodog.

Goals

-30k hands in November and to have a profit for the month, not counting RB or bonus.
-Continue to improve my game by watching videos, posting HH, discussing theory, just being active with my poker game in ways besides playing.
-Trade sweats has it's own little thing here because I haven't done one in forever. Whether it's watching or getting watched I think this can have positive impacts on your poker game.
-Stay focused while playing and keep the distractions to a minimum. I have a habit of paying more attention to the TV and skype than I do the tables.
-Long term, get to Vegas during the 2012 WSOP.

+++Not sure if this is the place for this, but I'll throw it out there. I'm interested in a prop bet for added motivation. If I can get any action I'd like to do you betting against me playing 50k hands for the month of November for a profit, not counting RB and bonuses. Obviously terms and odds would need to be ironed out. I'm not looking for a ton of action..maybe $100-$150 total on my end. But if someone even wanted to do one for peanuts like $20 I'm down for that too. Just something monetary to play for.

I know that I'll be gone for at least two weekends in November and not sure what I'm doing for Thanksgiving. I also work about 30 hours a week. So these will take some motivation for sure.

Any regs at 10nl everleaf or bodog feel free to pop in to discuss things.

If you read all that cool, if not here's some cliffs.

-My volume sucks
-Play 30k hands of 10nl in November(if no prop bet)
-Play 50k hands of 10nl in November (if there is a prop bet)
-Review play, analyze game, ???, profit
-Longterm get to Vegas for the summer of 2012

Re: Sticking to My Goals

Just a quick update. The prop bet is on. 50k hands in November, only counts if I make a profit before RB and bonuses. Limits 4nl-50nl in case I go on a heater. 4max-FR is ok. Small bet, but this is the motivation I need I think. We will see.

Re: Sticking to My Goals

Off to a great start. 3400 hands played so far. Playing more tonight. Will be gone for the weekend and unable to play so I need to make up for those hands while I have some free time.

Re: Sticking to My Goals

I'm on pace right now, about 8k hands played this month which is for sure the most I've ever played in this amount of time. When I get back from my weekend getaway I'll be behind 2200 hands. Shouldn't be real hard to make up. I'll be a little more active in posting hands and things when I get back, I've just been focusing on making sure I can play the type of volume I need to.

Re: Sticking to My Goals

12,700 hands as of right now. I'm a little bit behind pace right now, but I'm not real concerned.

Doing well at 6m, but 4m is proving to be a little tricky for me. I think I'm one of the tighter regs. My ATS from the CO is pretty low and I generally am firing one barrel and giving up. Definitely will be improving on those.

If any 10nl regs on bodog or everleaf see this and want to talk strategy or trade sweats or something hit me up.
