When do you mostly play? Weekends, nights?

Is it a bunch of regulars during the week?

Do you target certain opponents like the drunks on the weekend?

@Tswpoker1 thanks.
Up $980 and still going strong in the sesh. Table is getting a little worse than what it has been earlier in the day. Gonna continue to grind and try to record the best session of the year. I think this year I hv had a few (mayb 3-6 of them) $1k days, but I don't think I made more than $1200 in a session this year. That's the goal today.

@battagd1 I usually play 10a-4p Mon-thurs + some random times.
Yes, it’s a bunch of regulars during the week. When I say regulars that doesn’t necessarily mean a whole bunch of gd players. There r sm very gd regs, but also a lot of regs that r dead money.
No, I don’t #donkhunt players too much. Ill move tables if the game is bad.

@tokabudz thanks man. I will be fighting til the Apple drops.

Today: bought in for $500 (half big stack), and added $200 after losing a $200 hand in the first 30mins. It was so gross! I limp $2 w KJ utg+2, mp position makes a slight raise to $5, and 5 people call until it gets to me. I pulled out the ole squeeze play 3bet to $35. I get everyone to fold except Mr. Stubborn/Death stare/Mean Grandpa on the large blind. Now we a pot of $80ish, and I hv position on “mean gramps”. The flop is a perfect rainbow nut straight Q 10 9. He checks, I ask how much he’s playing (4 drinks obstructed view of chips), dealer says “$350”, I bet $65, he calls. The turn is Q, and “mean grandps” bets $100, I call. The river is a 9! Seriously poker gods, runner runner double flipping paired board? He Checks, I check river. He shows 7 9, for 9s full Qs. I said, “nice hand”, which is code word for “my chips are on loan w interest!”
Couple hrs later I felt Ole G, and from that point I continued to stackbuild.
Bought in $500+$200 add on = $700invested
Cashed out $1849. = +$1149 profit on 10hrs. I was trying to get to that +$1200 mark, but I had to pick up my daughter from church small groups at 8p. While waiting in the church parking lot, I looked back at the previous sessions this year, and today was a record day for 2013 ($1,055 2nd on 7/30/13).

My buddy won the Pineapple Tournament yesterday and asked me today if I wanted to buy his main event seat that was awarded to him. He’s heading to the UofL game this weekend, and the kid is die hard Louisville. He offered $480 for the voucher, and I bought it. The buyin for the Horseshoe Poker Classic Main Event is $560 on 11/23. Still not sure if I’ll b playing in it, or not. Depends how I run rest of week. I always have the option of selling the voucher that day for $530. But as I mentioned in Sunday’s post, if I can make $1k by Saturday then I will play in either HSI/Hollywd main event tournament this weekend. I said it, so I’m sticking to it! So far up $1,137 (mon: +$471, tues: -$313, -$170Tourney, today: +$1,149 = $1,137)

The roller coaster continues tomorrow. Need to stay even keel, and nose to the grind

As a weekend and late hour player I would say yea, but I couldn't really tell you how it compares to the hours Rayz plays.

Friday night around 7ish is when the action starts rolling in. There is a weekly 5/10 game that plays on Fridays so most of the stronger players are there. Friday is great for action as you get a lot of gamblers, tourists, drunks, etc. playing and they like to splash around. Around peak hours (10-12ish) there might be anywhere from 6-8 1/2 tables running, maybe 1-2 2/5 games, and the main 5/10/20 game. These games will generally run all night and break around 8/9 am.

Saturday will be slow until the noon tournament players start busting. The action might start picking up around 4ish, but won't really be good until 7. The dealers get there at 6:45, so 7:00 is the ideal time to take a seat. The 5/10 game won't be running but most games should be similar to Friday night, with a 1/2 PLO game thrown in somewhere. Action will be very juicy, but I tend to see more regs on Saturday than Friday night.

Sunday is similar to Saturday as the action won't pick up until later in the day, but you might have some games that carried over from the previous night. The daily tournament isn't until 3:00, but you may have 3-4 tables of 1/2 and some limit tables running before then.

PERSONAL SIDENOTE:

(A POST THAT LEADS TO HOW I GOT MY START IN POKER)…
THE BOND I HAVE W MY KIDS IS LIKE NO OTHER. I KNOW I DON’T MENTION MY FAMILY TOO MUCH ON THIS THREAD, BUT DID WANT TO MAKE IT CLEAR THAT MY FAMILY MEANS MORE THAN ANYTHING IN THIS WORLD. MY KIDS ARE AWESOME, AND BOTH OF THEM HAVE COMPLETELY DIFFFERENT PERSONALITIES. THE 10YR OLD HAS AN UNIQUE SPUNKY PERSONALITY AND THINKS SHE ALREADY KNOWS EVERYTHING ABOUT EVERYTHING. SHE INSISTS TO GET THINGS RIGHT ON HER ON TERMS/HER OWN WAY. MY 2 HALF YR OLD IS WIRED LIKE A FIESTY ANKLE BITING DOG. THE TYPE YOU JUST HAVE TO KEEP AN EYE ON AT ALL TIMES… SHE MAY COME CUDDLE UP W YOU, OR SHE MAY BITE YOU…NEVER KNOW. BOTH OF MY KIDS ARE OVERFLOWING WITH A SPIRITED JOY FOR LIFE.

MY MOST IMPORTANT JOB I HAVE BESIDES BEING A LANDLORD AND POKER PLAYER IS BEING A GREAT FATHER TO MY CHILDREN. I HAVE BEEN BLESSED/FORTUNATE MYSELF TO BE RAISED BY 2 GREAT PARENTS THAVE HAVE ALWAYS BEEN SUPPORTIVE, AND LOVING. ALTHOUGH, WE DIDN’T HAVE MUCH GROWING UP, WE WERE VERY RICH WITH LOVE. MY SISTER AND I WERE INVOLVED IN MANY SPORTS, AND I CAN’T THINK OF ONE GAME THAT MY PARENTS MISSED. BESIDES THE LOVE AND SUPPORT, I ALSO ADMIRED THEIR HARD WORK ETHIC AND DEVOUTED FAITH.

THIS TIME OF YEAR IS ALWAYS NUMB TO ME. SOME DAYS CAN FEEL EMOTIONLESS, AND A BIT DISCONNECTED. ON THIS EXACT DATE, 10 YRS AGO, I REMEMBER SITTING AT THE FOOT OF MY MOTHER’S BED. THE DOCTOR HAD WARNED US SHE MAY NOT MAKE IT THROUGH THE NIGHT AND MAY WANT TO SAY YOUR GD BYES. I CLEARLY REMEMBER SITTING AT THE FOOT OF THE BED THE WHOLE NIGHT, STARING AT A BLANK TV, MOUNTED IN THE CORNER OF HER HOSPITAL ROOM. IN THE WEE HRS OF THE NIGHT, I NOTICED MY MOM WASN’T BREATHING ANYMORE, AND BREAST CANCER TOOK HER LIFE 3 DAYS BEFORE HER 50THBDAY. 11/25/54-11/22/03…REST EASY.

THE REASON I BRING THIS TO HERE TO THE THREAD – IT WAS BECAUSE OF HER DEATH, HOW I GOT SARTED PLAYING POKER EXACTLY 10 YRS AGO. POKER WAS HOW I GRIEVED, HOW I ESCAPED THE REALITY, HOW I BLOCK OUT THE EMOTIONS…POKER WAS MY ULTIMATE THERAPY. PLAYING CARDS TOOK MY MIND OFF ALL THE HURT AND SADNESS, AND BECAME THE GREAT DISTRACTION! EACH DAY FOR MONTHS, I WOULD WAKE UP, HEAD TO WORK, THEN HEAD TO THE POKER ROOM. I WANTED TO STAY BUSY AT ALL TIMES WITH WORK AND POKER. ANYTHING, BUT BE AT HOME ALLOWING THE MELANCHOLY TO SET IN. IT WAS A VERY TOUGH TIME IN MY LIFE, AND DURING THIS TIME I ALSO HAD TO MAINTAIN BIG RESPONSIBILITES TO MY NEWBORN (NOW 10YRS OLD). I REMEMBER I NEVER TOOK ANY BEREAVEMENT TIME FROM TEACHING, AND THE VERY NEXT DAY AFTER MY MOM’S PASSING I WAS TEACHING MY STUDENTS MATH. I WAS ON TOP LEVEL AUTOPILOT, JUST TRYING TO MAKE THROUGH EACH DAY. FOR MONTHS, IT WAS TEACHING, POKER, HOME; TEACHING, POKER, HOME; TEACHING, POKER, HOME; TEACHING, POKER, HOME. THAT SUMMER, I LEFT TEACHING AFTER 6YRS, FOR FULL TIME POKER.

WHAT FIRST BECAME MY BEST THERAPY NOW BECAME MY FULL TIME JOB. WHAT!!? I HAVE A NEWBORN CHILD, AND PLAYING POKER FULL TIME TO SUPPORT MY CHILD! PEOPLE THOUGHT I HAD LOST IT! MANY WAS THINKING I WAS NUTS!! MAYBE I WAS, BUT I KEPT TELLING MYSELF, I WON’T LET MYSELF FAIL. I WAS GOING TO TAKE THE SAME GD WORK ETHIC AND FAITH MY MOTHER HAD INSTILLED IN ME, AND MAKE THIS POKER THING WORK. THERE WAS A LOT OF FREE MONEY BACK IN 2003, AND BY THE END OF THE YEAR I WENT FROM PLAYING 3/6LHE TO 6/12LHE W FULL KILL, TO 2/5NLHE. IN 2004, I PLAYED 2/5NLHE EVERY SINGLE DAY, AND BY THE END OF THE YEAR MADE ENOUGH TO PAY CASH FOR A BRAND NEW JAGUAR XTYPE, AND ADD A $60K ADDITION TO OUR HOUSE. OUR SMALL COUNTRY HOME DOUBLED FROM 1300 SQFT TO 2600 SQFT.

EVERY SINCE MY MOM PASSED, POKER HAS BEEN EITHER A FULL TIME OR PART TIME JOB. 10YRS AND STILL GOING STRONG. THANKS MA’

Appreciate the nice comments. Sorry I shd hv proofread my previous post before submitting.

Just left the poker room. +$143 on 6hrs. The rungd continues. It was one hell of a come back after being stuck $300. Never seemed to get off to a gd start n my sessions this week, but always finished strong.
After I cashed out, I scouted the 5/10/20nlhe for 20mins just to see how it was playing, and the line up looked pretty tough. I didn't notice any 3bets pre, or raises in that 20 mins; i did notice players were trying to control/manage pots a lot more than ur basic 1/2. W couple players sitting w $10k, it makes it a lot harder to raise for value, or bet for value in that game. I may take shots next yr, but it def wont b every wk.

The early projections around the poker room is 30players for main tomo. I still think 45ish. Not wild about playing it, but sticking to my word.
Ill tweet tourney updates tomo on my twitter https://twitter.com/RayzRayl
6 wks to make $10k for the goal.

Those small wins after being stuck feel like such a bigger win, don't they?

Yes they do. Believe it or not, the feeling was more euphoric than Wed's crush session.

@boilref - Sounds like it was quite a roller coaster in those 2 hrs. Very nice comeback! I love seeing players grind their way back. It shows they hv heart! Wish u continued success.

The tourneys hv been laughable, averaging 20ish players/event. I think today's tourney had 16 players. Moreover, both megas today, 3p and 7p, were canceled. I heard 7pm instead had a single table $125ish satty. After hearing this from @fluke22 I am now going to set the over/under at 36 players for tomo's main.

Wow surprised by this!
Today's main event is a $560+$20addon = $580. I just called HSI poker room, and asked how much of the buyn is going into prize pool; since its never listed on tourney sheets (my biggest pet peeve). I was told from Floor Supervisor $500 out of $580 is going into prize pool! That was really gd news for me, only 14% rake. As u all know, I hate playing tourneys w more that 18% rake.

I cashed 2 out of my last 3 tourneys. Hope to make it 3 of last 4 w this one.
