So Mondays HSI has this promotion where they splash the pot w $50 every hour. It makes for some interesting strategy. Some will straddle and squeeze, some will limp, some will open ship, some will play standard, but almost everyone’s hand ranges widens to any 2 cards pf……. After all it’s just $50, so my feelings are no need to get to out of line. With that said, I was 1 for 8 on splashes today. The one was a true beauty though. Here it is,…
The 2pm hour…Pit Boss drops 10 redbirds in the pot before the dealer pitches the cards. The spewy lady otb straddles $5. Im in the sb and call dark before I gather the 2nd card from the dealer. The next seven players calls trying to get in cheap - call5, call5, call5, call5, call5, call5, call5, and THEN HiJack Q10 open ships All in for $120ish. The straddler w A9 otb calls the bet w another $275ish behind. So now I have to look. And what do I see? Oh just, two cowboys staring at me. I make it $325 w $600ish behind. It’s folded back to button, and she calls. The flop is ... Q85.(In Unison Diamond Check)Turn is 7. River is 5. Not sure exactly on hands or flop. But I do know button had A9, and hj had Q rag off, and I know the board was Q hi all diamonds, brick turn and river. $950ish pot.

On another splash pot, and my last hand of the day I lost $400.

+$935 today 8am-4:45pm (2 half cap/coffee, 3 waters, 1 pink lemonade; 4 restroom breaks, 3 phone check breaks, 1 lunch break (JB’s Hot hamNcheese-chef salad), 1 regroup walk).
60hrs of 100hrs completed in 2weeks mini goal. Ends 5/26.

Prayers for Moore, Okla. Community...

Appreciate that @yester.
Had another gd day. Pocket Aces Very First Hand DeAlt today. Nothing special to report on. Just another 9 to 5 day of grinding. #everydaygrinder #heart #disclipline #noquit #karatekid
Check that, I did see something I never seen before in poker today. Player X bets $22 pf, and player Y calls $22. HU to flop of all hearts. BEFORE player X does any kind of action on flop, player Y instamucks!! Afterwards Player Y says he missed. Player X shows K J off (no heart & K hi). Smh

@number1hater, I know, laughable. U gotta love 1/2nhle. I get so much Tweet material from playing 1/2 daily! Everyday it's something new and different that just amazes me. People will do the craziest things... Just this week I saw someone fold when it got checked down, and the board ran out a straight. The player could of chopped it up. I saw another player just call the river with the NUTs! Wow! I saw another player win a $28 pot, then give it all to the dealer! And the poker etiquette at 1/2 is a whole other story! People folding out of turn, talking about their hand they folded (during action), fake folding (before action is on them), etc, etc.

LETS TALK POKER MANIA EVENT
It still amazes me that HSI posts tournaments, but never gives the details about the breakdown. I prob wouldn’t either, if I was going to rake 25% from each tournament. And like I said before, the daily’s Ts are A LOT worse 30%+. How can a professional poker player play these Ts w so much rake? It is def not cost effective! It is so important for HSI to post these breakdowns! This along w the structures should be readily available (via on website, HSI Fb page, and onsite) without the players having to ask for them. But what amazes me even more is that many poker players don’t seem to care!!! They could be playing a $200 Tournament and half could be in registration fees (exaggerating) and they would never know.
I was thinking about playing a couple tournaments in the PokerMania Event- June at HSI, but still not sure…
I just hate playing in tournaments where I have to pay 20% or more in fees. If I’m not mistaking, I believe the WSOP events are around 13-15%, which is why I like the wsop circuit events so much.
After doing some digging, I finally know the breakdown
Event 1 PokerMania is $200 + $20addon = $220 Tourney Event1 BuyN. From that, $170 goes to prize pool. $25 Reg Fee, $5 staff fee, $20 dealer addon =$50 50/220 = 23% JUICE OUCH!
MAIN EVENT is a lot better - $500 + $20 add on = $520 Tourney Main Event BuyN. From that, $450 goes to prize pool. $45 Reg Fee, $5 Staff, $20 deal addon = $70Fees 70/520 = 13.5% Juice. A lot Better!
How can we change getting raped by these Tournaments? Email Jimmy (poker supervisor) at AllenJW@Harrahs.com and express your thoughts.
IF you don’t mind getting raped, then ignore this post.
On this note, I think Im just going to play the Main. Best of Luck to all who play. May the best hand win. #holdonetime

I don't think I will. Im just not sure how all that works. Even though the bust outs sting, I kind of like playing w my own money on the line. #oldschool

Here is today's 1/2 story. A young kid sits down with $72. The dealer tells him there is a minimum of $100. He picks up $28 and says "be right back".

He walks over to the blackjack table, gets dealt 12 against a 9...hits and now has $950 at the 1/2 table.

@fluke22, that's classic.
Well I came up short in the mini goal of logging 100hrs. in 2 weeks (5/12-5/26). I ended w 82hrs logged, 9wins/3losing session, +$2,422. I played just about everyday, but wasn't able to play yesterday, or today. The last 2 days was pretty hectic w fam/life/"to do list"stuff.
I'm gonna try to pace myself over the next 7months, and remain focused. I must be honest with you guys, I am starting to feel a bit of "burn out". I'm trying to keep it fresh by mixing it up a little bit more. I.e. different times, different casinos, trying different techniques, anything to break up the monotony. I get bored easily, and I want to be honest- feeling a bit of stage 1 fatigue. But I will not give up! I'm in this for the long hall! The tourney next month will be a nice break from cash.
Even-though im a lil behind on the goal, im Not fretting. There is No need to panic, still a looonngg way to go. I'm starting to realize I may have the set bar too high. My downfall is not logging the hours! I'm still only averaging slightly under 30hrs./wk. If I was putting in 40 this challenge wd def be obtainable. W 30hrs/wk it's gonna be Extremely Tough! When u hv a fam responsibilities, rental responsibilities, kids extra curricular acts, a tennis addiction, AND expected to put n 30+hrs of poker, it's DIFfuclt! But understand, I will work hard on this goal! And I'm w u til the end of year! I'm going after it!!
End of month update coming soon.
Enjoy your holiday weekend! Rayzn ray

I enjoyed the candid post. Sometimes as a poker player, its hard to get back a soundbite from the outside. Just an echo-chamber inside your brain.

Just know that 99% of solid grinders are on the same boat as you. No one else is a machine and burn out is definitely a common phenomenon. Also, im pretty sure volume is the #1 leak to fix from almost all the winning players.

30 hrs a week is tough, 40/wk is even tougher. Poker can get really repetitive, everyone needs breaks to reenergize. I like to play at different places so I can atleast play with a different player pool and different cards and chips to help break up the monotony. Keep on trucking, you are still close to on pace to hit your goal.

@oarellfkux and @pureaggression thanks!
Man I got lucky today. $5otb straddle, and i call n Sb w a2 and does 4 others. Otb makes it $15more and everyone calls. The flop is 223. I check, followed by check, check, check, player X bet $25. Button folds, I call, Villain calls (23). Turn is 9. I check, Villian check, player x bets $50. I raise to $160 and villain calls, original better/player X folds. River is a I shove all in for $274 and he has me covered. Wow I got lucky. If river is anything but an ace I lose my stack.
Played bout 6hrs +$775 (mostly from that lucky hand)

Please clarify river action - villain folded a boat when the club flush came in? I'm just a little confused as to why you got so lucky, as described, you got coolered and (should have) lost your stack?

He said Villain has 23ss. You got lucky but def think you would fold to any (most V would snapoverbet here). Any 9 is an action killer and any 3 is probably a tank/fold. Maybe you won't jam any 4,5 or 6 either depending on reads.

You've played it in such a way that V has no real bluff by turn, you can jam any brick if that's your prerogative but if you can actually make a non-committing river bet, there's room to fold to re-jam.

Sorry, i shd of clarified that he did call my shove on river. I got lucky because I thought I was golden when flopping trip 2s w ace kicker. But villain (2,3) flopped a full house (2full of 3). Turn was brick, and I thought I still had best hand. River was a magic card for me! Yes, he called my $274 shove. From the player pool, I didn't think anyone was playing the 23 on a straddle pot, not even the villain-Asian.
After V smooth called turn, I was worried about pocket 3s. The Villain was an Asian player that like to gamble. Possible draw hand-clubs too. Call me crazy, but i still think I lead out river on ANY card.

After thinking about it, maybe not clubs, but I wd lead out on a lot of cards. Mayb clubs too? I'm so confused, I don't know. This is a classic example of "know your player/opponent". This guy was a maniac and cd hv smoothed called w just an overpair (10s). Who knows!
It was a weird spot for me, I rivered a full house and not sure if I'm good. Lol. If it was a solid grinder, I play it differently! If solid grinder took his line, then I wd hv to put him on pocket 3s for sure, 45, pocket 9s, or A2 (same hand). No other hand wd make sense..."Know your player"
Anyway I got extremely lucky, and I know that! The more I think about it, after V smooth calls turn mayb I can get away from A2. Its very hard to lay A2 down against THIS Player! Now my head is hurting. This hand is over for me!!
"Know your Player" - rule number 3 in my top 5 rules!
