I imagine it would have been hard for you to keep holding ENPH from mid Sept to early Nov while it bounced around $1.50.

There has to be a job a college educated man can get for one year only that will pay him $30,000 and help him get to semi-retirement in 2019

I think that is what Rayz is trying to avoid, at least in the tradition sense. Personally, I'm counting down the days to retirement (there are a lot still) so I fully support the retire early mentality!

Really curious about why you don't want to get staked! I mean especially since you've been "staked" by your own kids. Is it an alpha pride thing? Either way good luck on your journey to retirement.

No need for me to get staked. I can do it all on my own. Have for the 15 years of playing poker professionally.
Not sure what u mean by being staked by my own kids. If u explain, I can gv u an answer.

Maybe I'm wrong and I'm too lazy to go back. But didn't you say you took some of their savings to finance your recent reentry into poker?

Never took any of their savings.
It was just an idea/back up plan if things went south. Each of my 3 kids hv a savings ($100, $500, $1600) under my name where I contributed 80% of the monies. Their money is savings for car, so it wd def be replaced w interest by then.
I’m still hanging on to my current roll, but u r right, was/is an idea if I need sm funds. I don’t want to do this, but I hv to think of a back up plan.

Matter of fact, we r getting closer to this becoming a reality.
Down -300$ at the moment playing 1/2.

I guess my point is just that getting backed isn't that bad. I know that you have your reasons and I will respect your choices because I think you are clever enough to make things work. But I also know there's a fair amount of people here that would give you a solid backing deal. If you could find a deal where you get coached and backed by someone a tier or a few tiers better than you it can be super beneficial. It can eliminate certain stresses and push you to improve in an ever changing game. Albeit live cash is still very beatable, it also won't hurt to improve your hourly.

Don't be stupid. If you want to keep playing, take staking.

I played poker many years. Last year I busted my roll first time. Someone offered me a job. At the end, I got scammed. Only paid $500 for thousands of dollars of work. I ran up the $500 to $20k in a few months.

Take the stake.

I will make it on my own. I dont want it any other way. Own dime all the time. I will not go broke. #fingerscrossed
George Michaels said it best, gotta hv faith.

Was planning on #truckLife today to Cbus, but last minute decided on HSI.
I dropped Knox off at daycare, swallowed my pride, and just went.

Was down $300 quickly, but turned it around and brought home the W.
+$591.

After 9 months absent, first day back in the poker room was a bit weird.

Sound the trumpets, Rayz has returned to HSI!!! There shall be pomp and circumstance!!

With the check engine light being on, HSI may be the best location for the pokerz for the foreseeable future.

Glad to see you get back to HSI and crush it!!

Had to do it. Thanks @djcl86. Self demote took me back to the 1/2s. Prob shdnt been playing 2/5 anyway w my short roll.

Yep check engine light is another gd reason to stay close.

RTA starts when I return from NYC so that will help pay the bills some. Furthermore, it won’t take away from any poker hours. Poker during day, tennis lessons 5-6,6-7p. Mon thru Thurs. not much money but an extra $800/month.
That $800 shd take care of my portion (half) of bills, and anything made in pokerz shd b able to save and accumulate.

Got another thing up my sleeve, but chances are extremely low. It’s a house flip that I’m looking at this evening, listed at $629k. Been on the market for a couple of years w many price cuts. Original list price was 1million, and has been reduce by nearly $400k since then. My eye has been on it for the last 6 months. It was just cut in price again last month, so I told Sara we need to take a look.

We will make it work. I believe wholeheartedly in my poker skillz and hourly has always been strong.

Wasn’t meant to be. Potential House flip is not worth it. Believe it or not, I still thought it was overpriced. Needs more work than I thought.
For now, just gonna focus on building the roll.

Leave Monday.
Looking like I may follow through on this.
She has been an exceptional mother and great partner. I hv always had some trepidation w marriage. Kind of been if “not broke, why fix it, kind of guy.
I hv been mulling over sm pros and cons. Also, I cdnt see my kids w another father figure. I must either commit here or part ways. My selfishness hasn’t been fair to her.
Pros: It wd help w insurance (from her work), mayb taxes (filing jointly), inheritance, God’s Law, and maybe some other things. Anyone hv anything to add?
Cons: Possibility of divorce diasaster drama momma. The risk of “fixing something that ain’t broke”.

As u can tell, serious thought has been going into this.

Hey Ray
As you may recall previously in This thread I've been a pretty big opponent of marriage.
I will say within your context I wont argue with your decision to do it, sounds like it has a strong possibility of working out well for you.
Good luck

She's put up with a self-employed poker player and hasn't left. That's about as testing as it can get.

I think getting married makes sense, but the only thing that concerns me is if they get married she might push for him to get a real job.
