First off not sure where this thread should go.

I have never done staking or been staked so what are the basics to it? How I get paid back, how should I calculate how much interest/juice should be on the money while he is being staked? Should I make sure he is profitable first, and how would I do that? Should I just avoid staking all together?

My friend wants a 2k stake to start out playing 1/2 live nl.
He hasnt put in much volume in the lab studying or in actual playing hours, so I dont know how profitable he his. He is a college kid as well. (if that effects anything)
My own bankroll, which is where the stake money would come from, is 9.2k right now and for me to stake him 2k, that would be a huge % of my roll and I dont want to expose my self that much.
I am trying to settle on something like a 500-1k stake and the rest of his roll comes from his own money he has saved or has.

Hi Shake. I've never been staked nor have I ever staked anyone.
I'm as clueless as you.
But, following your thread, knowing your roll is about 9k right now, I think staking your buddy for 2k of that is a catastrophic idea.
The only way I'd remotely consider, is if it was a known crusher asking to be staked.

I'd hate to learn you lost your 2k.

P.s. I've lent money to degenerate friend's in the past, not knowing how bad it was. I was lucky and got my money back in both instances.
But, was also in constant anxiety about the money being paid back.

Of course, staking and lending is different, but your mind will be constantly preoccupied with how your prodigy is doing.

I decided on not giving him the money for these exact reasons. I didnt feel comfortable exposing my self 2k since that is a huge % of my roll. With me not knowing if he is a profitable player I didnt think it would be smart!

I wouldnt lend very many people $2K and certainly wouldnt in this case, but taking $2K out of a $9000+ roll for 1/2 isn't catastrophic. Come on....that still leaves 35 buy ins. If you bust 35 buy ins at 1/2 you are a bad losing player and your bankroll isnt really going to matter.

Well, Mike I respect your opinion but, can you not leave me my over dramatic moments. Yeah, catastrophic was maybe a little too strong of a word choice.
