Got a new sharkscope alias.

this is just the big guys (2 are blocked on scope, so not a "true" picture of all our big guys). I covered the name in the first two graphs, then saw it was in the actual graph too. oooooooops. its private anyway, but meh.

and just for fun, lets do a few months from last year.

staking is fun, for every-one

Went back and read some of last years thread (link in OP). Last years TCOOP ME sunday was quite a day. kinda weird reading back and i still get goose bumps reading all the posts in the thread around that time. I can remember so vividly the feelings i was having at the time of everything. It helped Dave had all the chips the whole FT, but it almost felt surreal.

Just spent a happy couple of hours reading through your 2012 thread, looking forward to more, insightful and interesting.

A couple of questions if you don't mind [obv don't answer any/all if you don't want],

a) You mentioned getting 2 coaches for the horses early in the '12 thread, then later sought a coach -- how important is it to the staking business to offer coaching as part of the package?

b) Sort of follow on from 1st q - do you/would you offer coaching/help in an area not directly to do with poker play, for example, if you thought that improving on [purely for example], general IQ or whatever, would you suggest that to a horse/s?

c) Given that you offer 50:50, and referred to other backers offering up to 70:30 - what do you think sets your business apart from other staking ventures, i.e. why would/should a horse be more inclined to apply to you than to one of the more lucrative deals?

d) Do you encourage horses to enter stats - i) generally, and ii) where they are already deep in MU

e) In a post on 25th Sept last, you were asked the Q "What are requrements to be horse?", and you answered "Be a winner in the games you wish to be staked in".
My Q - if someone is already a winner 'in the games' they are playing, why would they need backing -- [[ obv i'm reading 'in the games' as including the level they play at]] - just looking to clarity that my assumption is probably wrong.

f) At the start of '12 you stated your goal was to make 150/200k for your self in the year [from staking] -- would you be prepared to say whether you missed/met/overshot the target?

Over all, great read, have subscribed for more

P.S. Hope the personal side of your goals works out for you in '13.

One more thing ...

There was mention early in the '12 thread about building/offering incentive schemes/rewards for horses - did you ever get around to that, and if so, would you care to share any of the ongoing schemes your business runs?

Just had a quick scan through your threads, seems like you've really found a niche with what you do!

Sorry if you've already answered this but how rigorous are you with testing out your horses before you sign them up? Do you study their mental aptitude as well as their poker skills? I've always been a fan of the idea of investing in other players so I will enjoy reading this thread and living vicariously through your endeavours.

I chat with them a decent amount before i sign them. We do HH reviews (elio does, i suck at poker). we look at references etc. for high stakes guys, the process is a bit more involved.

gonna go back to the other questions later as well. thanks for the well thought out questions lplated.

---------------------------

Today was pretty meh all around. had 2 guys cash the 2k, so that was good (6 entries). think we broke even in that mtt overall. the 700 was not good. we had 3 cashed for a total of around 3500ish. think we had 35 guys play it.

some good news though, won the 150r and 200r. helps a lot cause we were having a terrible day leading up to that. think we broke even on the day overall, which is a great success. if you told me at around noon or so we would break even, i would have been overjoyed.

Elio also came back and played online today. obv he crushed. He won the brawl for like 40k and on his way to winning, knocked out one of our guys in 7th. kinda sucks, but gotta do what he gotta do.

the two guys who won the 150r and 200r arent in this graph. maybe add like 75 games and another 50k in cashes. trying to get one of them to unlock so its a more complete graph.

in the process of making a mid stakes group on sharkscope. will have it done shortly and post a graph as well for today.

Here is a graph of every one else we stake and how they did in the last 16 hours. not as bad as suspected. had a few scores on party/ftp as well (few 6k's few 3ks), so think we mighta made money today. #woooooooooooooooo

I think it can help a lot. I mean, if the horses are in like 70k MU, it makes sense to hire a coach and have them help the player out. if the horse recovers all the MU, you are rich! Paying the coaches hourly is a pretty good trade-off if the horse gets marginally better and clears MU

b) Sort of follow on from 1st q - do you/would you offer coaching/help in an area not directly to do with poker play, for example, if you thought that improving on [purely for example], general IQ or whatever, would you suggest that to a horse/s?

I suppose. never hurts to get smarter. Not sure i would pay for that/put that on MU though

c) Given that you offer 50:50, and referred to other backers offering up to 70:30 - what do you think sets your business apart from other staking ventures, i.e. why would/should a horse be more inclined to apply to you than to one of the more lucrative deals?

I am not to sure on this one. I think Elio and I offer a pretty good staking experience (in general) and think people appreciate that. We never are short on cash for horses to buyin to things (or, very rarely). I am always around to help horses with a lot of things as well. Just try to run the business as best we can and make sure its run in a professional manner. sometimes we dont do everything 100% right, but think people notice we offer a good "product" and they respect that.

d) Do you encourage horses to enter stats - i) generally, and ii) where they are already deep in MU

stats? not sure i understand this question. maybe you meant sats? and yeah, we think sats are a good thing to enter as long as the horse is +ev in the specific sat and can unreg if they win a seat. their buyins they can play arent determined by how cheaply they can get into a mtt though. if a horse cant play the tuesday 1k, he is more than welcome to play some satties (as long as withing buyin range) and then they must unreg the mtt (unless they are allowed to play it anyway).

e) In a post on 25th Sept last, you were asked the Q "What are requrements to be horse?", and you answered "Be a winner in the games you wish to be staked in".
My Q - if someone is already a winner 'in the games' they are playing, why would they need backing -- [[ obv i'm reading 'in the games' as including the level they play at]] - just looking to clarity that my assumption is probably wrong.

People are bad with money. people have bills to pay. people like to chase glory sometimes as well (live stuff etc)

f) At the start of '12 you stated your goal was to make 150/200k for your self in the year [from staking] -- would you be prepared to say whether you missed/met/overshot the target?

Eh, not really gonna get into specific things like this. i understand its kinda a dumb goal to mention esp when i wont say whether i got there or not (ha ha). I live comfortably and have anything i need.

Over all, great read, have subscribed for more

P.S. Hope the personal side of your goals works out for you in '13.

eh, not really. i am gonna do a SNG for just horses here soon, but havent gotten around to it quite yet.

ty for all the questions

Yea, im pretty sure thats the reason why. Its probably one of the worst things about being American, that u get taxed on ur world wide income no matter where it was made. The US is one of the few countries that have that.

Its pretty ****ed up though that they have out lawed online poker but still happy to TAX it!
