Food is the number one preventive medicine or cause for about every disease there is.
the dutchie (Meca) got a point with diet correlating to like everything - lifespan, obesity, overall heath, disease, immune system, brain development, organ maintenence, circulatory system, cancer, alot of random poisoning you don't realize you're exposing yourself to (farmed salmon, tons of fish with high mercury content, milk with growth hormones, FDA approved/profit maximizing artificial foods, etc).
for easy tips: no more preservatives. no more artificial flavors. no more chemicals. read labels, if you see a bunch of **** that you don't know what it is, try to eat/drink less of it. a banana or blueberry or spinach or normal chicken basically won't have any weird soy or sodium or chemical products on the label no more empty 'filler' calories. Your food's ingredients should be food, not chemicals and artificial flavors.
red meat has alot of arguments, I'll stay out of that one.
getting a bit more extreme: no more enriched products (normal pasta, white rice, any products with white bleached flour), more veggies, more whole grains, more natural **** that comes from the ground. It can seriously be pretty tough and expensive to do in america, but remember moderation is key. Mexico is ALOT easier to stay away from horrible frozen foods and processsed junky fast food (although I bet Cabo is more USA catered than your northern Baja neighbors). I'm just starting on this little journey but basically if I have a choice that isn't going to be too tough to accomodate...then fish/chicken/veggies will be ordered before a carne asada taco....but who cares, eat some tacos sometimes if you like tacos..just try to balance a bit more. Pork is not 'the other white meat', it's red meat, sorry. Most sandwich meats are horrible and sodium filled and tons of preservatives. Turkey is fine, and I guarantee you have butchers down there that you can take a turkey to and they can make turkey sausage, slices, non-processed non-artificial "honey baked turkey" flavors, etc.
I'm sure juicing vegetables has been brought up to you a million times.
Fruits aren't vegetables, eating apples and cantalope and mangoes and strawberries all day isn't bad for you, but it's just alot of sugar. Not saying to stay away from em, as they do offer tons of vitamins and minerals, but remember it's like 2-3 servings of fruit and 6-8 servings of veggies or something per day. green leafy stuff is very bueno. I think I saw something a few months ago in here about high ANDI score veggies, obv a good thing.
Meat is not the only source of protein...you have nuts, beans, soy, greek yogurt, dairy products (also alot of debate)
Just remember you're human. If you wanna chug a liter o' cola...go for it.
disclaimer: I barely know what I'm talkin about, but just use common sense. Start slow. Balance & gradual improvement > extreme changes. Chemicals obviously add zero to minimal nutrition to your food, so stop eating and drinking them.
