eh, those deals can be justified at times i feel. of course some of the people getting those deals is ridic, but some are warranted i suppose.

mediocre regs are getting ridic deals though. these mediocre regs have a few friends or know of a few people who get 70/30, and they automatically think they should be getting better than 50/50. its possible, so why not ask for it. backers are just giving up too much just so they can make a little money, rather than no money. can be ok in theory, but its not just how a horse does at the tables that you need to worry about. 1 idiot who scams you/runs away while in MU really kills a backers bottom line.

Also, going with a well established backer can be worth not getting the extra 5% on your profits. so many dif things come up in backing, and having a backer that is reasonable and will work with you through things can be worth so much more than an extra 5% on your deal.

there is so much more that goes into staking than just how the horse does at the tables.

2p2 marketplace, friends recommend people, we have decent name recognition in the staking world now as well.

Quite a tough question for someone in my position to answer.
I get it, that's actually one aspect of things I didn't really consider. Very useful answer, ty.

here is a pretty cool article on Mount Union Football.

http://bleacherreport.com/articles/4...ram-in-america

some things that stand out (article was written in 2010):

Mount Union, a Division III program, has won 10 national championships. The Purple Raiders have titles in 1993, 1996-98, 2000-2002, 2005, 2006, and 2008.

During the 90's, Mount Union's football team went 120-7-1. Since 2000, the program has lost just five times, with three of those occurring in the Amos Alonzo Stagg Bowl, the Division III national championship game.

When Oklahoma won 47 straight games from 1953 to 1957, the feat was considered a major accomplishment. However, Mount Union holds the two longest winning streaks in college football history. The Purple Raiders won 54 in a row from 1996 to 1999 and 55 straight from 2000 to 2003.

Between 1994 and 2005, Mount Union won 110 consecutive regular-season contests.

Coach Larry Kehres has accumulated a record of 289-22-3. That stat means Kehres has won over 92.5 percent of the games that he coached.

there are a few more cool facts in the article. Mount was overall a great experience for me, but left with a sour taste in my mouth.
Pretty sure my alma mater St John's university broke the 2000-03 streak!!! Cool thread

Great read. Nice insight into the staking business - and the pain of fitting healthy food and exercise into a poker addicted life :-)

I should be working but instead sat here on the side of the road in my car reading this entire thread. So interesting! Thanks for the insight and good luck meeting your $ and fitness goals.

As for a question, was there ever a player you declined to back that went on to become good or great that you kick yourself for passing over?

Eh, this happens all the time. there are numerous players we pass on for 1 thing or another. i would lose a lot of sleep at night if i got caught up in all that.

there are plenty of guys who have went on to win 100k+ for other backers, but me and elio gotta trust our own instincts/convictions/HH reviews when we pass on a guy or dont let him move up.

obv there are tons of guys we passed on who ended up doing bad as well.

do you buy/sell horses who are deep in makeup? if so what things do you take into consideration when doing so?

whats biggest games your staking atm?

biggest downswing as a backer?

how many different backers have you had in your poker playing career?

whats pageh doing these days?

---Yes, we do buy horses that are in MU from other backers. We havent had to sell a horse yet in MU. we have some guys who are in decent MU, but we feel they are +ev in the games, so makes no sense to sell their MU really. We have the roll to stake them, so might as well. the second part of your question is a bit more complex, and not sure i really want to get into it in this thread. need other backers to keep buying/selling MU badly (at least not educate them too much).

whats biggest games your staking atm?

---We have some guys who play everything on stars atm. We stake people for live stuff as well, but sometimes dont take all the action in 10k's.

biggest downswing as a backer?

---Its hard to really tell, cause so much is always in horses accounts, but would say 200ish.

how many different backers have you had in your poker playing career?

full time backers? just 1. I sell off action to a lot of the stuff i play now though (WSOPs etc).

whats pageh doing these days?

He is in Florida going to school atm. talk to him every so often, but obv not nearly as much as i used too when we were in business together. i always thought he was a great player, and kinda sucks he hasnt moved to play poker still. getting school done is great, but still think he could be making some decent money playing poker.

Great thread subd!

Just a couple o questions if u dnt mind:

1. You were talking earlier about deals like 50/50 70/30 etc.. What happens if say a horse is 1k in mu and binks a small mtt for 2k does the % split start after u break even. (so when he is out of his 1k hole u split)

2. What would u suggest a newbie backer backs? 9m sng or mtts sng?

Thx in advance!

And the best of luck with ur health! Ive got a really bad knee injury hurt myself racing mx a couple of years ago replaced both my acls so doing alot of walking and cycling aswell.

All the best.

1. Yeah, the backer must be made breakeven before the profits are split.

2. for new backers, the main thing is just not to go broke. not sure i want to get into what exact games i would stake though. Just gotta pick a lower variance game then MTTs, for sure.

sorry to hear about your knees. and ty for the well wishes.

Do you grind the market place at all? Like do you/your partner invest in packages? Can someone make substantial money doing that only and not having any full time horses?

I grind the MP, but not the live selling shares area. We enjoy MU being attached to things.

The Russians have a pretty good business going, esp since they dont have to pay taxes on things.

I am sure there is money to be made, but i like to concentrate on other areas.
