Thanks, though I actually hope I avoid luck. With my strategy, it is not about getting lucky. It is about AVOIDING THE BAD LUCK.

Yes, that is exactly my strategy on most of my bets. Looking for the mortal locks. I just wish the NC State coach could be shot like a horse that breaks its leg after losing a big race. The coach's brain is broken, and putting him out of his misery would save a lot of Wolfpack fans a tremendous amount of suffering going forward.
Speaking of suffering and bad luck, let's talk about my first shot at $1/$2.
So, I played quite well I think with the exception of one absolute boner of a hand. I was on the wrong side of Suckout City all night. Here are some examples.
I get Q
Q
in the big blind. Older Asian GAMBLER who is in nearly every hand makes it $7 to go in MP. He gets a couple calls behind him, and then I repop it to $21. All fold except the villain.
Flop: Q
A
8
Obviously, a great flop for me. I bet $25 and he calls. Turn is the A
to give me a boat. He calls my $50 bet, leaving him with just $42 left that I fully expect to take from him on the river.
At least I did until the case ace hits on the river. I check and he of course bets his final $42. Then he really pissed me off my instacalling the clock on me after he has been taking OCEANS OF TIME making decisions all night with no one calling the clock on him. I do not pay him off, and he shows me the ace after I fold.
Another hand, I have AQo OTB. I raise it to $10 after it is limped around to me, and all fold except for an old fool that I have heard several people call Lucky Larry. I am about to learn why.
Flop comes A89r. He checks, I bet $25. Turn comes a deuce, and he calls my $50. River is a five, and he donks $35. I call, and the old fools flips over 8
5
for the rivered two pair.
I need to rebuy after this BS as my stack that started at $200 and was up to $380 is now down to $123. I top it off to $223 and run it up again until I make my HUGE MISTAKE on the night.
I have 3
4
in the BB. It folds around to OMC, who has just changed seats to sit on my immediate right. He completes the small blind, and I check.
Flop is 3
4
2
. Well, this hand just got interesting. I bet $10 and he calls. The 7
comes on the turn. OMC checks to me, and I bet $25. He reraises to $100. Instead of instafolding like I should have, I tank and call.
Then he donks all-in on the river J
for another $131, and I freaking call! I convinced myself he had 23 somehow. I will never do this again!! Stupid, stupid call. He of course flopped the straight, and I am down to $41. I rebuy for another $200, putting me in for $500 total.
I slowly grind it back up with tight, solid poker until my last hand of the night. This is the hand that convinced me that I will make lots of money playing poker, but I will also have to learn to accept the fact that idiots get lucky.
I get pocket rockets UTG+1. I raise them to $15. The villain reraises to $30. I think I played it right, but I would be interested to know what others think. The villain is a drunken gambler. He raised like his first 5 hands at the table to $12 or $13, then announces all-in blind on his sixth hand to crack someone's kings with 93. I heard lots of people talking about how he does this crap all the time. With that in mind, I repopped my aces all-in. I started the hand with around $350, and the drunken idiot calls and has me covered. I expect him to have any two cards. Neither of us flip them over, and the flop comes Q1010. He announces, "I flopped a boat." I chuckle, and then he says, "No, seriously," and turns over the ladies. The turn and river are blanks, and I am busted. Just a sick beat to end my night. It was right on the eight-hour mark, and I leave with my tail between my legs after a brutal introduction to live poker.
I was really pissed for about 10 minutes after that hand, but on the drive home I started changing my tune. I got my chips in good, that was the top of his range, and he obviously got lucky. I saw lots of people making stupid plays all night long, and I know that I can win a lot of money at Prairie Meadows over the long run. It just really sucked that I would have gone home a $200 winner if the aces didn't get cracked. Instead, I left down $500.
Day 1 Poker Results: 8 hours played, -$500
Poker Bankroll: $124
I am thinking about throwing another $300 from my own money to expand the poker bankroll to take another shot tonight. About 50-50 on it right now. I just am running really awful right now between that terrible NC State beat and last night at the table. I would hate to see it continue tonight. I may just stay home and enjoy the fights, hope my parlay wins to end the downswong, and come back to PM next weekend for another shot at the drunken buffoons, Asians gamblers and calling stations that these games seem to be filled with.
