Hi Everyone,

I have lurked on this site for a little while and decided it was time to make an account to document for posterity my poker journey.

About me: I am someone who enjoys playing poker recreationally (casual home games) and recently started to get into online poker and dive deeper into poker in general. I enjoy strategy games in general and particularly like how poker seems to have endless layers of depth while remaining accessible on the surface to new players.

I started playing on Global Poker because every day I log in, I can get at least $0.25 free. If you log in each day in a row you can get $3.10 a week just in free bonus.

Starting with only this (I have never deposited), I worked myself up to $70 playing mostly 6max sit and gos mixing in some cash game play. I then withdrew $50 (partially to prove that the site was legit, seemed too good to be true, haha).

After reading up more on bankroll management, I decided to focus on single table sit and gos to limit myself to a minimum of 50 buy-ins before moving up to the next level. Currently I'm at $46.92 on the site and playing $0.55 6-max sit and gos until I have $55 and can move up to $1.10 entry fees.

Early in the pandemic I did deposit $25 on ACR (blowing most of that on tournament entries). I plan to use what's left to mix in some cash games at 2NL and practice multi-tabling.

My goal is to play poker in a healthy way and get to the point where I can make decent side income from doing so. I would also like to build up my bankroll to the point that I can afford to play some live tournaments when the casinos in my area open up to tournaments again. I do enjoy live poker tremendously.

To start out with I will stick with No Limit Hold'em.

Thanks for reading, I will update this thread semi-regularly. As of this first post I think my biggest leaks are my post-flop play and bluffing decisions at low blinds.

Current roll: Global Poker $46.92, America's Card Room: $6.60

Moving up in the world, almost up to 50 buy-ins at $1.1 6max. Thought I'd post a hand here to get some feedback.
Current BR: Global Poker: 53.87, ACR: 8.03

6max sit and go, 0.50 + 0.05 entry fee
Blinds 30/60
down to 4-handed

UTG(2504)
BTN(270)
SB(1995)
Hero (BB)(4231) with Jc8c

2 folds, SB raises to 180, Hero raise to 300, SB calls

Flop: AcQc2d

SB shoves (1695)

My thinking here: I have second nut flush draw, and am deep stacked. I put this player’s range to a top pair or high pocket pair or a flopped set.

Hero calls

Spoiler:
SB shows Ad7h (top pair)

Turn 3s, River 6d

I'm thinking this was too loose in retrospect, but maybe it made sense as a call? Not sure...

Even with a strong read this is a punt. While the 3bet pre is sometimes (rarely) ok, shoving 1695 into 600 is really really bad. He will probably always call off with top pair. Bet 2/3 and jam turn, it seems more believable.

Hero min3bets and calls 250% shove

@smuel: Just start reading or watching poker content. I'm sorry to tell you, but at this point you are terrible at poker. You're burning money this way.

Thanks for the insight. Would the most ABC move here be to fold pre?

Ha, I am under no illusions, I am for sure terrible at poker right now.

I've been reading Collin Moshman's Sit and Go book and trying to spend more time reading/studying than playing lately.

Another:

6max sit and go, 0.50 + 0.05 entry fee
Blinds 15/30

UTG(1500)
MP(1500)
CO(1500)
Hero (BTN) (1500) with QhKs
SB (1485)
BB (1470)

UTG folds, CO raises all-in, all fold

I know it’s sensible to fold here, but sometimes I am tempted to call here because of the wild play I see frequently at these low buy-ins. What should my calling range here be, AA, KK or maybe AK?

Last three I’ll post today. I’m definitely running hot, and feel like I’m improving slowly but surely.

BR is up to: Global poker 56.77 (will be playing $1.1 6max tournaments next), ACR bankroll is the same, haven’t touched cash in a minute.

6max sit and go, 0.50 + 0.05 entry fee
Blinds 15/30
down to 3 players (lol)

Hero (SB) (2940) with 4d4s
BB (1305)
BTN (4710)

BTN raises to 60, Hero calls, BB calls, pot is 180

Flop: 8s9dAd

Hero checks, BB checks, BTN raises to 180

Spoiler:
Hero folds, BB folds. Pretty sure this was the right move here. Does this line make sense? Was going for “speculative” set hunting, and the flop missed hard.

6max sit and go, 0.50 + 0.05 entry fee
Blinds 15/30
down to 3 players

BTN (4875)
Hero (SB) (2850) with 9s10s
BB (1230)

BTN raises to 60, Hero calls, BB folds, pot is 150

Flop Qd7h8h

Hero raises to 90, BTN calls, pot is 330

Turn: Jc

Hero checks, BTN bets 30, Hero raises to 210, BTN calls , pot is 750

River: 10c

Spoiler:
Hero bets 90, BTN folds. I feel pretty good about this one.

6max sit and go, 0.50 + 0.05 entry fee
Blinds 15/30

UTG(3000)
MP(1395)
CO(1455)
BTN(315)
SB(1320)
Hero (BB)(1470) with Kd8d

1 fold, MP calls, BTN calls, SB folds, Hero checks, pot is 105

Flop: AdAcAh

Hero bets 90, MP calls, BTN folds, pot is 285

Turn: 4s

Hero bets 90, MP calls, pot is 465

Turn 2s

Hero bets 232,

Spoiler:
MP calls with 10d10c. P Does this bluffing line make any sense at all or is it just extremely fishy?
