WSOP 2017 wrap up

I have been back home a few days now, so it's high time for a wrap up of my second WSOP trip. During 10 days of play I played 17 tournaments with one day off, so volume wise I'm pretty satisfied. Compared to last year I also did much better in terms of deep runs. I didn't actually make money, but I definitely had some more enjoyable experiences:

Made a day 2: It took a few bullets in the $150 $100k gtd at the Golden Nugget, but I made day 2 with an above average stack. It was heart-breaking to then bust 9 minutes into day 2 and only 50 places short of the money, but what can you do. I did have the excitement of making the second day, the first time I have done so in a live tournament.

Made a WSOP dinner break: The $1000 Tag Team tournament was such a blast. We ran up a stack, made the WSOP coverage and railed the One Drop along all the high-roller heroes. My mate running around getting selfies with Fedor and Polk just made my day, he was so insanely happy. Of course it would have been even better had we not busted in 200th with 130 getting paid, but what can you do.

WON A TOURNAMENT!!: Yes boys and girls, not only did I cash but on day 8 I actually won (chopped) a tournament! It wasn't enough to break even for the trip, but it was such an immense relief that I at least managed a significant cash in Vegas in two trips. The tournament in question was a $130 Nightly at Planet Hollywood with ~60 runners.

We played 6-max for the first few hours due to very weird table balancing and I was table captain throughout. I had a good run of cards initially and then used my stack to keep the pressure on. I reached FT around average in chips but got busted down to a shortie when I lost a big flip. Only 6 got paid with $324 for 6th, so I played snug and managed to steal a few blinds. After we reached the money I took the few spots I came across, all the while the other players were torching $EV. Finally three handed I got a full double to even the stacks and we chopped for $1500 each.

That was the only cash this trip, and covered half of my buyins, so I netted -$1500 in poker this trip. Obviously I would have liked to come out ahead, but if you bust close to the money in 4 tournaments it's just not happening. Regardless I had a good time and I'm sure I'll be back another time.

Future plans

With two Vegas trips in two years funded through pub poker I have more than reached my goals I wrote down in the OP. It's also enough Vegas for now. My net poker result in Vegas is ~$6500 in the red, which is half of the money I made through pub poker. This does not include the significant overhead of flights and accommodation, so realistically I don't think I have enough bankroll to fund a third trip right now, even if I wanted to. I'm finishing up with my PhD at the moment, so I have other priorities anyway. So I'm not expecting a WSOP 2018.

Of course I will continue to play poker. With online poker finished for the time being this will mainly comprise of live poker, primarily in the pub/RSL. I do want to play at the casino more, but my bankroll has taken a pounding due to my Vegas trips so I need to run it up a bit more before I can play the monthly $550 Deepstack and Series games such as the $440 opening and $550 KO. My target bankroll is $10k, and in the mean time I will seek out juicy $100-$250 pub/RSL games.

I will update this thread intermittently (whenever I bink something significant probably), but as far as the original challenge, I'm happy to say I succeeded!

Quick update: in live poker last month I finished 2nd in a $75 monthly for $1200 and shipped a $25 game for $300.

And online today I played my last Sunday session in what will be a long time with Stars getting blocked next week. Got utterly boomswitched all day. Finished 3rd in a $7.5 turbo PKO with 5k runners for US$1100, and shipped a $4.40 with 1100 runners for $675. Had a deep run in the Big $22 and a super deep run in the $22 Mini Million too. Ran up my roll from US$600 to US$2600 in one session. Super hyped right now. Wednesday will be my final online session with some WCOOPs sprinkled in!

LETS GOOOOO!!!!!
