Halfway point in Challenge Reflection:
So I have officially reached halfway of the challenge (50,000/100,000). I know a lot of you want to see my 50k hand graph so here it is.
So the challenge started off quite slow. First few days were not very impressive and put me behind quite a bit. Definitely have only really started picking up momentum in the last week or so. My play has definitely improved since the beginning. I think this can be attributed to the reduction in non-poker related work stuff since the beginning of March.
My overall strategy has changed a little bit over the course of the challenge. I have noticed certain spots have not become so standardized and some parts of my range have become a little bit dynamic. This is something I am not used to as I usually prefer having rigid and consistent ranges.
Positional Overview (50k hands):
Here are my winrates per position (however these are not that useful to analyse as my sample size is extremely small):
There are honestly no surprises in the hierarchy of positions and their winrates. The closer I get to the button, the more money I make. I am slightly disappointed with my sb winrate as this is a position I have generally performed very well over the course of my online poker playing days. BB has always been a position I have struggled with particularly as I think I 3b way too high a freq out of the blinds.
Mental Overview:
As of day 7 I started implementing a session review task that focused on some non-strategy reflection. After every session I would input a number (between 1-10) for each category. Here are the averages for each:
According to my ratings I have played above average overall. My focus has been pretty poor and this is definitely something I want to amend over the course of the next 50k hands. Turning off my phone, discord and other social media applications during sessions will become a priority. Tilt has generally been around ~5 which is good. I don't think it has improved throughout the challenge - in fact I think it has gotten worse since starting the challenge and maybe this could be attributed to the fact that there is a winrate goal as opposed to a volume goal. Previously I never worried about winrate - I just played. My note taking has been substandard as well at an average of 5. I could be writing more population notes as I play but have found this difficult when I do live commentary for the videos.
Videos:
I have really enjoyed making video content to complement my PGC thread. It is really motivating when people tell me they look forward to my next video and appreciate a minor change or improvement. Having the video component has been an exterior motive for increasing volume. Generally speaking, the greater volume I input, the higher the probability of interesting spots that I can include in my videos.
Although it has been very satisfying it definitely takes away a lot of time that I could be using towards study or play time. This is definitely something I have struggled with, particularly as I am a noob at editing, it takes a lot of time. It has given me a new found appreciation for people who produce content on a regular basis.
Despite the videos taking away from my game, I find that post commentaries (which I seem to be doing a lot more recently as I am getting lazy....) have been beneficial for reviewing certain hands. Although I do not go into super in depth strategy it gives me some time to reflect on certain hands and critique them.
Anyway this has been a long winded reflection over the last 50k hands.
TLDR: I am building momentum after an average start, need work on big blind and I enjoy doing video content despite it taking away time from studying or playing.
