I also enjoyed your unique content such as focusing on bluffing (mid 20s episode) as that type of stuff isn’t discussed as much and it’s interesting.
Have you come up with any interesting live exploits? (Opening larger, 3betting tighter, overlimping, etc)
Hope the live travel grind is treating you well.
Thanks, always nice to hear someone appreciate the work effort that I put into my videos.
At the moment not really. Only thing I have really adjusted is developing a limp re raise strategy for button straddles but apart from that I havent really done anything innovative. I have started to get better at adapting strategies for indiviual players. I.e. against young regs I generally put a lot of value hands in heavy checking lines and then against recreational put value in heavy betting lines. I am also starting to get better at grouping players and identifying tendencies of these groups.
Regarding the specific examples, it really depends on the game. When I play 7 handed or less I play almost identical to my 6 max strat online. I 3b a little bit wider in these games just because:
1. People do not 4b anywhere near the correct freq
2. People play really poorly OOP in 3b pots.
When it becomes full ring, I generally play tighter. I generally never overlimp as rake is disgusting. Most games I have been playing in have straddles so there is a very large incentive to raise steal (and preflop is unraked).
Generally I have been opening 3x or 4x. I actually think there is a lot of merit for opening 4x or 5x from cut off or button because there is a misconception (particularly in the live community) that you have to defend your big blind super wide. I think the fact that in tournament poker your defence range out of BB is super wide and they apply this same logic to cash. I also think that generally 3b freq out of BB (even online) is generally too low and therefore we do not get as punished for larger open sizes from these positions.
Away from strategy, I am starting to struggle with the travel and live grind lifestyle. The extremely long hours is seriously starting to affect my sleep schedule and the number of meals I eat. I am currently very sleep deprived from Malta (probably because the guys I shared a room with snored so much haha). Since I am always so fatigued I have less motivation to put hours into studying and content creation.
I also feel like my overall game is slowly starting to deteoriate. I am really starting to recognise how crucial/important it is to play online poker to maintain or improve skill level. The sheer volume of online poker improves intuition and helps build habits in maximising EV in every small spot. Its going to be interesting going back to online. Fortunately the guys in my study group are accelerating at an exponential level and I have faith that I can leech information and coaching off them when I return (thanks in advance lads).
I will say, I am having a lot of fun from a social perspective. I generally am a social person and I like meeting new people and having chats with people on the table (sometimes I just dont feel like talking to people because I am tired). I have also met so many cool people and have travelled to a few places with some of the other live poker players. I have also had some fun nights out!! The online grind is sometimes very isolating so its really good to mix up the grind with a social element.
Live poker and travelling is always a great way to network. I eventually want to do some business related stuff down the track so I have built a decent network of people in the last few weeks.
Anyway this is what my sleep deprived self feels about my trip at the moment. I am currently at the airport and about to head off to Ireland for the Irish Poker Open so if anyone is around and wants to go get beers, hit me up.
