Re: shooting for the high stakes (HU hypers - from $15s to $1000s)

Not ususally one for complaning but feel the need to now

From start of 2013 managed to go 200+ BIs under ev in chips and 250 in avg BIs ($32.5 avg BI). I just feel perennially unlucky at hypers. Move up, snap run bad. New year, snap run bad. So frustrating cos it's not like I can do something to run less under ev either. Also to cap it off every single time i move up from 2013 onwards I have managed to be under ev at that stake. Just the nut worst times to run bad. Guess I should just count myself lucky that I am fairly well rolled and can go through these patches without feeling the need to quit or easing back on volume or letting it affect my game.

anyway no update or anything, just felt like venting /rant.

Graph with all games since 2013 (will probably post another complain when I reach 10k under ev):

Hyper variance is crazy, best to just be well rolled and ignore the swings best you can, glgl (and would probly help if you played more fish and less regs but I'm not sure how much of that is in your control)

Yea def, good point about playing less regs as well, at 100s I don't have a choice but at 60s I could, and probably should be playing less regs atm. I just get too annoyed with people getting free lobbies with like 100 games at 60s so I feel compelled to go chase them away.

Re: shooting for the high stakes (HU hypers - from $15s to $1000s)

Ok just a quick update, I decided to quit 100s for now. Just had a sick run over past few days and I don't think there's any point exposing myself to this magnitude of swings until I am properly trying to move up. Just gonna be playing quite a few regs at 60s and hopefully repairing the damage to my roll

Last 5 days graph which is why I'm breaking on them for now (didn't help that I ran so bad at 60s alongside this, majority of ev and about 2k of money was lost there):

Sucks, but you'll get there sooner or later. Interesting schedule, I was actually thinking about following something similar.

Re: shooting for the high stakes (HU hypers - from $15s to $1000s)

Week 3:

After bad downswing I didn't really play any more that week. Just been ridiculously busy and probably a good time to have a small break before I get back into it this coming week.

Week graph anyway:

ty

I would genuinely recommend this schedule, it has made me a lot more productive. The best thing is as well if one morning you wake up and feel really tired you can just go back to sleep and you still wake up before 6am. Also I feel far more engaged when I'm learning things after being up 6 hours already as oppose to having been awake 1 hour.

That's my favourite schcedule too. The problem is when you have dinner+drinks with friends outside or football+beer days.

Re: shooting for the high stakes (HU hypers - from $15s to $1000s)

Introduced the schedule a few weeks ago but trying to do to gradually. So at first I wanna be going to sleep at 10pm and waking up at 5am, which would still be nice for me.
And I noticed a few problems.
1) I can't fall asleep too fast. It takes me 0.5-1hr. At least when I'm not tired.
2) I woke up (so far) at 7am, 8am, 5:30am anyway
3) The thing mentioned by HU_YO. I guess I could still take a nap before going out but will see how it works.
Definitely I feel more focused on the game though early in the morning, that's very good. And still usually can relax or do other things in the evening. So overall seems to be positive.

Cheers!

Over last year or so I've managed to get very flexible with how I structure sleep so if this happens it's not a problem

I feel like phasing it in gradually is a mistake. I was in the habit of going bed at 10am so I just decided when i wanted to do it stay up all day till 8pm and then fall asleep. Tried not to sleep too much 1st night so I would be tired early again and then just stayed in that system. Since then had no problem with going to sleep luckily, just feel drained at end of every day and collapse into bed and asleep within 5 mins :P

Re: shooting for the high stakes (HU hypers - from $15s to $1000s)

OK so not gonna do weekly update today. After downswing I've barely played and just been very focused on the 60s cartel activities which has taken up quite a lot of time. Now everything is in place will hopefully be back to my normal schedule and putting in decent volume. Avoiding even going on the graph section of pt4 for the time being but will do a monthly update and see if I've healed that graph at all.

Re: shooting for the high stakes (HU hypers - from $15s to $1000s)

Month summary

Not a great month, played mostly regs at 100s and a fairly high number of regs (even before the cartel) at 60s. Went through another one of those stages where I forget that most money won comes from fish and game selected accordingly lol. Volume was not good but with going back to Uni + organizing things for the 60s cartel I'm not too bothered by that. Will most likely play significantly more next month and probs 75%+ reg games, I'm not too bothered by that either but just gotta accept I may lose quite a bit again. Should be worth it though long term. Slightly frustrating that it took me all of a month to get 2.5k under ev this year, was finally hoping for some sort of godmode, but now 10k under ev at hypers, maybe next month though

One thing I was pretty pleased about is how calm I stayed throughout. downswing in ev and even more in $ for such an amount would've made me insanely tilted previously I think. This month managed to have a very calm detachment from the amounts I lost. Just felt similar to playing gta and getting arrested, slightly annoyed that I have to go buy more ammo and wish I got away but it's w/e really.

Anyways here's hoping to an above ev month Will def be an interesting one whilst we see how cartel at 60s develop, loving how the lobby looks atm though.

Completely unfiltered (lost a few hundred in mtts):

Hypers only:

60s only:

100s only:

Cartel leader with a minus EV month? Suddenly cartels don't look so intimidating
But seriously, you should kick yourself from the cartel for underachieving :P

GL Blue, variance can be a b1tch in low-edge games (like HUHT regwars), so don't be hard on yourself. I'd focus on 60s wars, you can easily grind 3-4K games, and those games are pretty good

Dude Abides: c'mon bro, do you even play hypers, at these levels?

PolarBear, no, I don't. I was just teasing, Blue already proved he's a monster at hypers when he wants to be. That's why I follow.

ty man. Although very hard to grind 3/4k games with uni taking up so much time, think I'll be happy with 2k+ games and in the holiday months upping it then.

Re: shooting for the high stakes (HU hypers - from $15s to $1000s)

Damn the cartel seems to have made everyone stop updating their thread

I haven't played that much recently unfortunately, between being ill and cwk been really pushed for time for playing. Should be getting more volume in the coming weeks though, helping out more with the battle Lobby is def super fun recently though, log on and within 10 minutes can get like 3+ tables (I just set sharky to sit 3 lobbies/non cartel regs) for rest of session, no need to even add 30s.

But back to my opening sentence, it has become hard to update regularly since the 60s cartel formed, there is def a limited amount of info you want to be writing in public especially since you are playing regs so can't comment too much here. Even whether to post graphs is questionable just due to the nature of how it is atm. Hopefully will be back to posting better updates soon though Would like to keep this thread going since it has my progress for more than the last year in so will try and get it back on track.

It's basically just a group of regs at a certain stakes way of equally sharing the burden of playing other regs. Say if someone moved up to 60s previously they would get sat a bit but a lot wouldn't bother and would rather just try to play fish. This meant the workload on the ones that sat new guys was unfair so this just holds everyone responsible for playing new guys and not just freerolling the benefit of others sitting them.

Re: shooting for the high stakes (HU hypers - from $15s to $1000s)

February:

Damn been a long time since I updated. Need to get better at that Ended up playing nowhere near the volume I wanted, organising the cartel stuff took so much of my grind time, things have settled down now though and should run a lot smoother so hopefully be getting better volume now. Definitely been interesting setting it up and dealing with some of the problems that come about.

Had about 83% games v regs I think so pretty pleased with how it went, not paticularly pleased with another 50bis below ev though, maybe March the month where I get all my ev back though

Also graph recently makes me very glad my brm has been very solid and I tend not to waste a lot on pricey, unnecessary purchases. As it is I have enough money to just absorb these swings and minimal irl expenses means that I don't need to bother about making money either (although would obv still prefer to make money :P ). Still frustrating when you find yourself just getting further and further below ev but it doesn't really matter in the grand scheme of things.
