Well, first I bet to find out where I was at. Then he raised and I wasn't sure, so I called. Turn he bet again and I thought "what can he really have?", so I called. River he checks and I still wasn't sure where I was at, so I decided to check because then I'll know for sure.

I think it's perfectly reasonable to develop a strategy in which one checks this combo a bunch. Also, I wasn't far off with my play anyways. My combo was calling a non-negligible frequency otf, and turn is a pretty easy call (with or without solver work). It's worth mentioning that my actual opponent had a pretty good xr frequency.
There's also a philosophical disagreement here. I'll never understand every possible part of the tree, and I'm not gonna let potential future uncertainty sway my decision on earlier streets. Further, one could make the same, albeit pedantic, argument against checking: if you don't know what to do against various bet sizings on various turn cards after you check back flop, or if you don't know what to do against turn xr, or xx turn and xr river, ..., then I suggest you just bet the flop. Lacking 100% knowledge of how subsequent parts of the tree work shouldn't lead one to pick the most passive action by default.

I won the hand so obviously I played 100% perfectly. Duh

Haha look at you actively recruiting bad regs. Sometimes the 500z pool just looks so grim while 200z looks like an aquarium.
