About

Sup guys. Not going to go into a lengthy backstory here. All I'll say is that anyone who knows me from this awesome sub-forum will remember I've had a gazillion threads in here, and that they've always ended in a calamitous breakdown of some sort. (most recently in the first half of 2017)

Why I'm Getting Back Into Poker

I'm looking to get back into grinding because I still enjoy splashing about and still believe that I can gain something from the game. However, I will only be looking to put P/T hours into this as I've learnt painfully many times that, for whatever reasons, F/T grinding isn't for me and surely never will be.

I've also been somewhat aimless in life since I last stopped grinding for a living, which is close to a year ago now. I know that the most productive I've felt in recent years is when I was making good progress in poker, but also using the freedom and flexibility to build a meaningful life outside of the game. I'm hoping that I can use poker as a foundation to regularise my schedule again. I also believe I can build up to a point whereby I'm producing a tidy little side income.

Why I'm Starting This Thread

I doubt this is going to be a particularly entertaining thread. It may very well go the way of every other thread I've made, but I do love PGC and I know that posting in here and setting goals keeps me accountable. I want to take poker a bit more seriously than I have been doing and having a thread in here is the best motivation for me to do that.

Plan of Attack

I've been racking my brain recently trying to figure a route to get back into the game. With only a limited amount of money for an initial bankroll, but also the greatest amount of previous experience and study in push/fold, I've decided to go back to my roots by playing turbo MTT SnG.

Unfortunately, the games don't run like they used to on stars so hammering one format isn't viable like it used to be. Even the 2/180s don't run anywhere near as much as they did in 2014. I think a good idea will be to start in the $1.50/18s, study the **** out of them (ICM especially) then once I feel comfortable, have moved up in stakes, grown my roll and built table count to a reasonable amount, will then learn the 45 mans, 90 mans etc.

I'm also very curious about the progressive KOs. At some point I'd like to really study those in detail as they must be an absolute goldmine for players who have an understanding of the maths involved. When my roll has built to a reasonably safe level I will definitely take a look at the 90 man progressives. I imagine those $5/90s and $11/90s are really fun games, plus all the MTTs.

As mentioned already I'll be looking to play P/T, so somewhere between 15-30hrs a week total invested into the game. Initially, volume will be low and study time will be high whilst I try to get to grips with the format, and also re-familiarise with software such as TN.

Best of luck.

You should look into Brian Fite, and Turbo Kings.

It would be a good way to learn and accelerate your climbing!

GL with this!

The rake on the 1.50 18s is absolutely appalling (15% if I remember rightly). To be fair, even the $0.50 45s seem better.

What's your starting BR? It's worth trying the 1.50 and 3.50 45s and 2.50 180s as they still run pretty well in general, but yes, apart from those the MTT SNGs are not what they were.
