Shellys' 6max Zoom Ascent
and 66 is for me a clear 3b BU vs SB in a 3b only strategy
the only thing i would have to add is that i don't like the cbet sizing in h5. even though i am not a GTO expert, i think we should have in these spots two betsize, one aroun 30% and one around 70-80% and QQ certainly makes it into the 70-80% range
Thanks brother. <3
I appreciate and encourage all feedback but tbh I agree with what you say Bubble. The iso seemed super standard to me, and I think this notion not to 3b low PP is an outdated belief from back when the ratio of fish/regs at the micros was much more heavily weighted towards fish. Against a lot of opponents at 10NL, I think flatting small PP OOP is going to be marginal. When you also factor in rake considerations, the best strat has got to be to try to take pots down pre vs regs in those spots. Now against fish we should heavily lean towards flat rather than 3b.
Cheers man, get updating your thread more often please.
what makes you think an iso vs fish on the button with Q8s 200bb eff. can be bad?

Had a poor day productivity wise.
I'm struggling with this really bad habit at the moment of going for power-naps but then sleeping for hours instead of 20mins or whatever the optimal amount is. I've even been setting myself a written goal of not sleeping during eating windows (I do time-restricted eating) but I'm kind of addicted to ASMR.
Coming home after a brutal, energy-sapping game of squash like the one I played earlier, having a good munch and then lying down and listening to some bird from the deep-south of america waffling on about reptiles is heaven to me, as strange as that sounds...though oddly enough the ASMR only works when I'm a little tired in the day time rather then before bed.
That's inconvenient because I really love ASMR but I guess it's just something I'm going to have to go without if I'm to reach my full potential as I clearly don't have the discipline to just nap for the 20mins you're supposed to to get the max benefit from it.
I did manage to grind 3hrs exactly this evening though. The games were super fun although I misplayed a few pots and that was the difference between a solid profit and finishing around b/e. I was definitely groggy and my game went from the conservative game I think is correct at this level to the way more spewy game I've become prone to.
One slightly perverse thing I'm happy about is that, when I misplay a hand like the first one I'm about to post and lose heaps, and then realise shortly after why it was such a big mistake, I don't get bummed out like I used to. I'm way more able to play a huge pot badly and just move on. I think this is actually quite important as mistakes are a part of progression but allowing mistakes to eat away at your soul is going to lead to regression instead. The key is realising why it's poor and learning from it.
-----
H1 - This is the hand I'm talking about. I use the 1/3 cbet on flop and a lot of recs (and some regs) get confused by it and will start bluffing. When they pot the turn though it's a clear fold because, there can't be many recs at all that would bluff-crai this flop and then just mash the pot like this. If they're going to continue bluffing they'll use a smaller size, and if they're vbetting worse they'll surely use a smaller size too. It screams "I HAVE A SET AND I'M SCARED OF FLUSH OR 4STRAIGHT". When we call turn though we pretty much have to call river. Bad hand.
H2 - This is fine against an aggro rec. Just a cooler. They can have some weaker Tx, and maybe occasionally some semi-bluffs like AQ AJ QJ or even some random hands that simply don't believe we raise trips on the flop.
H3 - Same player as hand above.
H4 - Solid runout against a big fish. Pretty brutal for them.
H5 - This is another hand that could be spew. I played one similar at some point ITT with a similar outcome. Opener is an aggro rec, 3bettor is a rando who is 3-tabling mixed between 10NL and 5NL, and cold-caller is a big LAG-fish. When the LAG-fish cold-calls my thinking is there's a lot of dead money and they could make a bad call with Axs if the other guys fold, but CO's 3b was lightening quick which maybe makes it more of a fold? I'm not sure, would love feedback.
H6 - "PLEASE DON'T SNAP, PLEASE DON'T SNAP........CALLLLL, CALLLLLL!".
H7 - Rubbish turn but I think my c/c is pretty good.

Sigh. Just gone mental in the live chat against pokerstars over this HUD issue.
I've been going round in circles for 2 or more ****ing months trying to get them to acknowledge the HUD issue I'm having at zoom.
Every so often the HUD won't update and I'm left with the stats for players from the previous hand. How the zoom HUD works is that a HH file is created every single hand so that stats for the current players can be retrieved. For some reason on my system that HH file will randomly fail to refresh, hence my issue. I even had a session with PT4 support where they made sure all my anti-virus exclusions were correctly set, and then showed me exactly what was going wrong and explained this is a pokerstars software issue and was out of their hands.
So for the last however ****ing long I've been constantly getting in touch with pokerstars trying to get them to fix things. They even said they were aware of the issue and sent an email out after a month saying the issue had been fixed...
Then last week they had me re-installing both pokerstars and pokertracker, and even though I knew it wasn't going to fix it I went along with it just in case.
Then last night at the end of the day I played 22 hands to recreate the problem, sent them log files and the info for which hand it occurred at. Today they've sent me an email explaining how to save HH to disk and to ensure I am correctly saving my HH...
So I've just flipped and gone mental in the live chat and called them robbing ****s and globalist corporate pirates who are raping the games whilst hiring ****ing monkeys as technical support.
It's really dumb of me as I've allowed myself to get wound up before grinding, and who knows, maybe the doom-switch has just been activated.
Honestly at my ****ing wits end though trying to get these half-wits to solve my problem, THEIR problem. If this was happening 5 years ago it would be at least tolerable but, given the nature of amayastars in 2018, my patience ran out. The very least these ****s could do is hire top-class technical staff and it would barely make a dent in their plunder.
Think I need to go mediate for a while.

So with hindsight I'm feeling remorseful for the above incident and losing my cool like that. Back in the day I used to be the absolute worst chat-abusing scumbag when grinding but nowadays it barely enters my mind. Even self-excluded from poker chat for the longest time. Definitely a much more disciplined human nowadays than in my early 20s but I consider the incident earlier a sad lapse even though stars support have been a complete joke over this issue, but seeing as the issue is only happening for me (apparently) then there's a chance it's something to do with my system. V unlikely as my system is in great condition (completely reset it before starting back) but it could be something to do with anti-virus conflicts despite the pokertracker support team setting all my exclusions. I duno at this point. Either way I shouldn't allow my emotional state to be compromised like that. It cost me an hour of grinding before squash earlier.

Just finished for the week. Failed hard on volume tonight, tbh think I'm a little burnt out so will take at least a full day off, possibly two. Was playing a bit spewy so decided to call it quits for the night. Mistiming my 3bs and cbets and whatnot. Making a few poor 4b-bluffs. Not quite thinking things through etc etc.
-----
H1 - This is kind of brutal vs a rando. Actually considered flatting v the sizing but don't think that's good is it. When they 3b-pile we're basically just hoping they're overplaying a slowplayed set or QJ.
H2 - Not sure what my play is pre vs a nit on the BTN. Maybe this is correct? Not sure about their call but nice result for hero.
H3 - Brutal for the rec. Had enough of these in the first month at the stake to not feel too guilty though.
H4 - Went for it vs the reg. They tank-folded.
H5 - Very low 3betting reg so there's <9x in their range than a lot of guys, though we're deep enough to assume there's some. Still though, it's so polarised and they surely have so many more bluffs than straights for this to be an easy call. Having the Qc isn't ideal but I don't think it makes loads of difference in this particular spot.
H6 - Non-believer.
H7 - Aidsy river against an aggro reg. I think C/F is the right play here. AA and KK surely never pile like this, and possibly won't call a pile either. Even TT-88 prob snap-check back. Gota get creative to imagine they turn into bluffs. Hope they had JJ and the river saved us heaps.

The week has been ok. Productivity still isn't quite where I want it to be but progress is consistent so that's something to be happy about. Got a good idea of what I need to do to improve things so it's all good. Also feeling pretty positive about life in general at this point, managed to get through the flirtation with a depressive-episode that threatened to derail everything last week and have felt much more mentally balanced this week. I've been meditating very consistently recently, as well as doing lots of work on the fitness & nutrition front so I'm sure it's all helping. I know it's a very niche' sport but my squash game is as good as it's ever been and I'm redic excited to see how many more plateaus I can smash through. Absolutely love the game, it might be the best addiction I've ever had. Certainly ****s all over some of the addictions I've experienced in my time on earth!
On the tables things have gone decent. I ran well and actually turned a decent profit for the week. Decided that I will be attempting to make the stepup to 16NLz now. I've got well over 40BI and, whilst my game is far from beastly @ 10NL, I do think that moving up is going to help me to improve more than staying @ 10NL will. Very excited to test myself at a higher level!

Going to hold off from setting goals as I'm not sure whether I'll be taking just tomorrow off or both tomorrow and Tuesday. Most likely the latter as I've been working on poker fairly consistently each day for a few months now. I think I'll be taking it easy and looking to slowly acclimatise to the new limit.
Will drop by at some point soon though to set goals.
Thanks for reading, Shelly.

Also in the 68s hand a fee posts back, you 3bet 7x or something and you are otb
You were correct and there would've been no prizes for realising that.
I've told Nuxxx already but his graph is a thing of beauty and def inspiring to me.
Having said that I've changed my mind again now. Will explain below.
Agree with what you say and ty for forcing me to think about this. My sizings in all spots are definitely a weakness and I've got a cohesive plan now to correct all this.
Can you clarify the BBxEP concept for me? I can't figure it out myself but it would be great if you could explain in more detail for me.

Got some exciting news.
A PGCer who I've always followed/has always followed me has reached out and made an unbelievably generous offer to coach me purely for the personal challenge of developing a micro-player. Can't even explain or comprehend how lucky that makes me. We did a first session on Monday and, as I said to him, even if we never did another it's already amazingly cool of him. Feels like a bit of a lottery win to be honest.
He watched me play for 15mins or so and then I watched him play for a fair while longer. The main theme of the session was to get me thinking about how respective ranges interact with certain board textures. We also touched on a bunch of other topics, such as opening sizes and 3b sizes and whatnot.
We also spoke about over-reliance on HUD stats. Whilst I do think HUDs are helpful I also completely agree that the main focus should be on how respective ranges react with certain boards and textures as opposed to obsessively looking at negligible stat-samples and diverting focus away from the more important stuff.
I feel like I absorbed the lesson very well and have created notes on areas to particularly focus.
Some disappointing news is that I haven't played at all over the last few days. What was meant to be 1, possibly 2 days off spiralled into 4 or 5 days of excess and general malaise on all fronts. I wish I could say I used my break productively but I'm sad to report the opposite. Mostly just binged on junk food, let all my life-goals slide and frittered away the last 5 days mindlessly surfing youtube whilst sleeping at odd hours. Ready to snap out of it now though!
Earlier ITT I spoke about skipping 16NLz and then changed my mind largely as a result of Nuxxx's sick graph. However, I've once again changed mind and will be jumping straight to 25NLz.
I'm quite comfortable doing this, firstly because I can deposit 10BI if needed (already deposited a couple BI to top roll up to 30BI) but also because, if I feel out of my depth or disturbed by the monetary swings then stepping down will be no problem whatsoever. I don't feel like I'm particularly egotistical or lacking in self-control so I see no reason not to have a shot at 25NL and hope it sticks. Ultimately, the game isn't going to be hugely different between the levels. A lot of moving up through micro-stakes is as much a mental hurdle as it is a technical hurdle and I've played these stakes in the past so I can't envisage the mental side being a problem. The pool is larger at 25NL so that's also a big +.
Not setting goals until the weekend is over but I'll be putting in a few sessions and updating ITT. Will also only be 1-tabling for the rest of this weekend (poss longer) so that I can implement the strategies we discussed in the coaching session and make those automatic.
Will post a few updates soon with some hands and graphs.
Ty for reading, Shelly.
Just played first session single-tabling 25NLz. Wanted to put in 500 hands and it went OK until the final 100 hands or so. Was mainly just trying to get to grips with what I was taught the other day and feel like it's definitely simplified a lot of spots for me, although still pretty unsure in so many others.
Generally though, I know lolsamplesize, but I don't think there's much to fear from the level. Was quite surprised to see so many 10NLz regs in the pool. Maybe they move up on weekends?
-----
H1 - I think the thin-v bet is fine as don't expect a double-check with Jx or FD from this fellow Stokie. Think 2/3 is a mistake though and we get more calls from the hands we want value from by going closer to 1/3. This sizing probably folds all those out.
H2 - Think this is fine against a rando. Would like to know thoughts on 4b pre vs just flatting.
H3 - Honestly, I prob fold if they pile. Tanked for a while but getting like 4/1 so that swayed it.
H4 - Guy who'd done nothing in 5 hands. Think this is fine.
H5 - Flop is fine. Turn is probably fine to barrel although our sizing makes our range more polarised. We also block a lot of the hands we expect them to c/f on turn with. With that in mind I think we have to shut-down on river. They snapped so quick it was a bit tilting but my v-range is so ****ing thin and polarised here so I can't blame them. Could go smaller on turn and river and achieve same result, possibly even have more f.e. ...
H6 - Worst hand. Flop cbet is fine. Turn seems a fairly easy check, duno what I was thinking or if I was distracted. Also simplifies river as we could've got to SD so much cheaper AND vs a range that would've been way more likely to have some bluffs in it.
As played think we have to call turn CRAI. River is obv a horrible call when they mash pot. I guess my thinking was T9 and even A9 prob don't go so hard for value and 66 poss CRAI flop, + we block 87, but obv we should just make a disciplined fold on river vs a rando who might do all those things, and for all we know has all offsuit combos of 87...

Plan for tomorrow is to single-table 25NLz again whilst playing the $22 WCOOP mini Sunday milli. Really looking forward to that, hopefully it'll be a long night!
Update tomorrow and some new long-term goals. Shelly.
Grind was OK tonight, a bit frustrating at times, more through lack of confidence in what I'm doing than anything else.
When I started playing 10NL I went through the same thing although I had a 50BI roll compared to the <30BI I have at moment. I'll probably add another 10BI tomorrow and play it by eye. If I lose heavily over the coming sessions and feel super unsure in what I'm doing I've always got the option of stepping down to 16NL.
TBH I strongly believe that I'm a winning player at the level as it's still full of button-mashing regs and whatnot, and whilst I'm clearly mediocre myself I seriously doubt there's many players who are miles and miles ahead. There's a chance I'm a very marginal winner though in which case variance has the power to eat me alive and decimate me, especially when combined with a small roll. The next few sessions will be critical, some heat would be lovely but I'll be sensible and step-down if it becomes too stressful.
Also busted the $22 WCOOP in a standard spot.

H1 - Early in session. Got excited hoping there'd be a lot more spots like this against fish as had already seen some absolute whales on GazzyB's stream earlier.
H2 - Not sure what my turn play should be here. Don't think I can fold though and hate calling just to fold unimproved. Think that would be horrific.
H3 - Tight reg. Honestly, I don't see what I beat unless they're turning some mid PP into bluffs or vbetting super-thin. Seems way more likely they flopped or turned a set. We even have Qs which is a ****ty card to have. Maybe I'm over-folding though?
H4 - Squeezor is a reg with extremely low 3b stats over a small sample. I think flat is OK? Actually managed to ask them later on and they said my flop call was a mistake. Not entirely sure but with no I suspect they're right. At same time it's a board where most of their air will have to shutdown I suspect, especially as I have more Tx in my range than them?
H5 - Similar to a hand from yesterday, turn cbet is a mistake and I knew as soon as I clicked bet. Suppose in my mind I was just looking to get to SD without a tough river decision as I seem to be getting way more of those at this level.
H6 - No idea what this player is doing but river was easiest snap of my life. Way too high up in my range. Also, their stats were reggy (think they were multi-tabling) so was assuming they'd prob fold FDs on turn.
H7 - Actually like my turn barrel here as we should get some Qx to fold, we fold out a lot of PP that got sticky on the flop, and we even get value from some naked FDs and GSSDs. Had a good think on river but decided that this fish probably has enough 4x in their range. Think it was close decision though.
H8 - Not sure if this is spewy. Looking now I only have 2 combos of trips. I may very well make this raise with boats/quads though. After they 3b flop though I'm basically just clicking buttons.
H9 - Think this is fine against a rec. Was praying to see a low PP.
H10 - Actually think this turn barrel is fine against a rec. Got to assume we make non-FD AK and AJ fold, + maybe a decent amount of PP and some other stuff. Probably got some outs that we can check and win river with too.

If anyone dropping in could give critique on the hands it would be ****ing awesome of you!

H7 - Actually like my turn barrel here as we should get some Qx to fold, we fold out a lot of PP that got sticky on the flop, and we even get value from some naked FDs and GSSDs. Had a good think on river but decided that this fish probably has enough 4x in their range. Think it was close decision though.

If anyone dropping in could give critique on the hands it would be ****ing awesome of you!
Shelly.
Going to do things slightly differently this week WRT goals. Will set a few weekly goals but nothing volume or stake related as things are so uncertain for the time being. Also won't be able to go the whole week without checking results as I need to know how roll is faring, but will still make not checking during sessions a daily goal. The upside is that I'll be able to post graphs each day.
Also, I had an awful week just gone with regard to life goals so I'll be working hard to get my **** back on track. Grinding hours will therefore be low but that's fine as I should really be focusing on quality way more than quantity at this point in time.

H3: gotta call river vs this sizing. Betting half pot ott would also be fine imo
H4: always 4bet except is villain is a huge nit. As played i would fold flop vs big sizing and no backdoors
H5: Check back turn, fold to raise as played, no good cards for you otr really and he will likely bluff river again often
H7: you can easily cbet whole range for 1/3 on this board. I would check turn blocking some bdfd combos and some sdv, but if you wanna bet you should overbet big, ~2x pot
H8: You shouldnt raise too much and you dont rep much but w/e. I probably fold to 3bet with no bdfd and ****ty impied odds. I would also check turn cause i expect his flop 3bet rance to be super strong and dunno what he is folding here.
H10: ATo is usually too wide to squeeze here vs MP and CO. Post is ok
Hands i didnt mention i think are fine

OK day. Hit my 3hrs goal although failed on the study. Am also failing hard on life-goals which I need to snap out of soon as having the life-**** in place is the foundation I need to give my best to poker.
Won a bit today and felt way more confident than yesterday. The strategies I'm implementing are starting to feel so much clearer. Also feel like I ran decent in terms of cbets / barrels getting through too, but def feel like I'm seeing spots and ranges clearer now and playing with more discipline, which is surely one of the most important skills to master at the baby-stakes.
The strats I've been taught have simplified things massively and, although I'm happy with one table this week and will likely stick to two for a while after, the plan is to get to at least three and hopefully four in the not too distant future. I think that's got to be an important goal, but for the time being learning with low-volume seems optimal. However, I need to get my **** in order (body-clock, healthy eating, fitness, meditation etc) so that I can get closer to previous productivity levels and start putting in more hours.

H1 - Spewy player. Plan was to jam over their turn bet, never considering folding.

H2 - Open is maybe marginal but not folding to such a poor 3b size. Just went with gut from there as the sizing didn't seem like an overpair so having Js is especially good for us.

H4 - Finding a lot of players are undersizing their 3bs vs my small opens. Dream spot. Think my river size is good as if we bet more they possibly don't raise, + more chance of PP < QQ calling. When I had these sorts of spots @ 10NL I was wrongly going too hard for value against competent players.

H6 - Really weird spot. Tiny, irrelevant sample but the guy has 3b twice from bb in 5 hands. Came close to calling as I expect sets and 2pr to bet flop so they'd need to have checked one of those or have KTcc for this to be value. At same time I folded because I couldn't envisage bluffs, felt like KK so much and raising KcKx would be a sick move with so much SDV. Poss TcTx but so hard to imagine bluffs here.

Goals for Tue 4/9/18
[ ] 4+hrs total grind 25NLz
[ ] 30+mins recorded study
[ ] post yesterday's marked spots in discord group
[ ] no looking at graphs or balance until day is done
[ ] rev daily goals ITT before day is done
[ ] new daily goals ITT before day is done
Yo. Hit volume tonight but failed study again. However, me and another PGCer have created a discord group so I've posted lots of spots in there and we're having some fun discussions. There's only three of us at moment but there's a couple other guys who are probably going to join so I think this will be a really cool way for us all to improve.
The games were fun and I was fortunate to run extremely hot for the last few hours, although sadly I misplayed a bunch of spots. Probably missed at least 1.5 BIs through some spews / poor value-sizings.
-----
H1 - Not sure about my river 3b sizing vs a fairly tight-reg. I know that the flat pre is somewhat loose but me and my coach discussed this and decided we can flat the low PP from sb here in certain situations. With stacks slightly deeper and a rec in bb, + smaller open size I think this is OK.
H2 - This is spewy against a reg with tight 3b stats. My thinking was that they never check-back any overpairs (possibly not even true) and I felt AQs was their most likely holding, but jammed to fold out any Jx they somehow have. However, if I was them holding AJs or KJs here, or any overpairs to the board, I hope I'd find a call because my line is bull****. They snap-folded so most likely AQ.
H3 - Horrible hand. I never usually flat but UTG had tight stats over a small sample and there was a rec in bb. Still think it's an easy 3b pre. By river I'm trying to fold out their jacks which is dumb. The sizing is also horrible, needs to be 2x at least but it's just not the right spot as there's so many draws that miss so we should just c/f. They were right to snap me off.
H4 - "PLS DON'T SNAP, PLS DON'T SNAP.......CALLLLL, CALLLLLLLL!"
H5 - River 3b is horribly misplayed by me vs a rec. We put them on Ac as it's hard for them to have boats after checking-back flop, however, I should've gone to about $20 as not many recs are going to fold the Ac are they. Obv if we're potripper we can just pile it.
H6 - Lovely runout vs a clear funplayer.

I've managed to completely decimate my body-clock so I'm going to try to reset it by staying awake which is always hellish and will make me feel jet-lagged for a good few days. However, it needs to be done as I've managed to fall into one of my ruts again. I'm not someone who can be close to optimally productive when nocturnal so I need to get back to a normal schedule.
As such I probably won't grind tomorrow (today) but if I do it'll probably be lower stakes, or maybe even just fire some spins / 180s or something.

The games were fun and I was fortunate to run extremely hot for the last few hours, although sadly I misplayed a bunch of spots. Probably missed at least 1.5 BIs through some spews / poor value-sizings.

H5 - River 3b is horribly misplayed by me vs a rec. We put them on Ac as it's hard for them to have boats after checking-back flop, however, I should've gone to about $20 as not many recs are going to fold the Ac are they. Obv if we're potripper we can just pile it.

Forgot post this one from yesterday. Nice river flat bro.
Discussed this with a few people and it's clearly not a thin-v bet OTR. I think I'm getting a bit mixed up by people saying we should bluff-catch less and v-bet more thinly, which is correct but I'm def not understanding and incorporating correctly. Maybe it's better to use thin-v as blocker bets when we're OOP, and for smaller amounts than the 60% or w/e I used here.
One interesting line proposed in the discord group is to go 1.5x turn and check back most rivers, such as this. Really like that and think a spot like this with a vulnerable overpair would be great for that line as there's so much a rec can c/c, including some stuff they shouldn't.
WRT to sorting sleeping schedule, I slept for a few hours today and feel OK. Think I will def grind a few hours this evening, although not late as I really want to get to sleep at reasonable hours tonight and get back on track with all my life-goals / poker-goals tomorrow.
Update later, Shelly.

Didn't grind cash today (yesterday) but gone a big way to fixing body clock, although I'll now be going to sleep early and waking up early whilst it adjusts back to a normal level. I'm just not someone who can be nocturnal it ruins me, but with the games I play nowadays there's no reason for it to drift as it's not like back in my MTT-SnG days where you kind of had to play late and then sleeping post-session whilst still pumped full of adrenaline was always tough.
By the end of the weekend I should be over the jet-lag and back to a sleeping-pattern that allows me to be productive. Want to put in a solid week next week and will be going back up to 2-tabling 25NLz barring some disastrous results before then.

Yo. Didn't play much today. Won a little but was a bit unfocused, partly because of tiredness but also because the discord group we've created is really starting to popoff now and it's a lot of fun. Will make sure to turn it off tomorrow during grind!
Also, I've decided that I'm going to step back up to 2-tables tomorrow. I think I've got a very good handle on the new strats I'm employing although I won't be min-opening anymore, will be going 2.4x from now on.
Volume is really low this week but I'll try to get in at least 9hrs of 2-tabling before the week is over, then next week I'll be looking to start ramping up the volume. I'd like to get to a point where I'm mixing in 3-tables by the end of the month.
-----
H1 - Laggy-rec. Think river call might be bad because of sizing and very few draws on the board. Obv confused by the turn sizing with Qx as it makes 0 sense but laggy-recs gona laggy-rec.
H2 - Not sure about my river-sizing but suspect I got not far off max-value from their 2prs and sets.
H3 - Honestly, even if I don't hit my pair I'm calling turn. Their range on flop is soooo heavily weighted to the types of hands they had.
