Played OK today. Nowhere near the A-game I was at last week. I think I'm going to take tomorrow off from grinding and then try to put in some decent volume over the weekend. This week is a bit of a write-off now in terms of hitting the volume goal but there's no reason why I can't put in some good quality play over the weekend and get back into a good frame of mind.

I think I'm also lacking some sort of regular study which always used to give me something to hang my hat on when things weren't going as well as I hoped. I've got a flopzilla license so I'll have a play with that tomorrow.

Will just try to have a decent relaxing day, maybe spend a bit of time in the kitchen getting some batch cooks done, and come back feeling refreshed for Friday.

H2 - They 3b the flop lightening quick. I don't know, maybe I shouldn't be folding here but I think it's way more likely they had me dead and shot their load too early. I think if I somehow have J5s instead of J7s I go with it because we don't block 87cc.






H3 - Had a note on this guy that they flatted T8ss from the bb and c/c bizarrely with basically 0 BD equity or overcards, then didn't bluff river after checks on turn. When they bet this hard it seems like we beat overplayed AA and AK and even then, given the nature of fish in 2018, it's a stretch to hope we're up against that sort of player.






H4 - SB cold-caller has tight reggy stats over like 60 hands. Just don't see what we beat. Even if they cold-call with AJs they get there but I'm not sure they even have that in their range. Poss not even AQo. We chop with AQs and we get bluffed by maybe KQss (if they even have it) or some PP that decide to try to get KK/QQ to fold. It seems a stretch...

Definitely. I got scared by the reg's cold-call and forgot about the rec. If we cbet there and the reg c/c then we can start getting nervous but at least it helps give us a better idea of what's going on, + there's big value to be had from the rec. As played it's totally possible the reg put us on a PP below AA and blasted us away with a PP weaker than ours. Just inviting trouble.

Spent an hour exactly watching tutorials on how to use Flopzilla. It does seem a fairly powerful piece of software and I'm developing some ideas of how I should go about utilising it. I think the best course of action would be to look at common spots, such as cbets in BvB play, and just grind those hard until I see an improvement, then move to other common situations and become stronger in the regularly occurring spots. There's also a lot of basic poker maths where I'm, ashamedly, totally ignorant. This is clearly something that will have to change if I'm to improve.


With regards to the HUD, I've done no work on it today. Even though it's a weekly goal and I've got a list of things I'd like to add, I think I'll be leaving it as it is for a while as I'm still getting used to things and I don't want overload with stats and negate the benefits by being unable to find my way around the thing. I'll take the fail this week and stop adding that as a goal for a little while.


Only played about 25 hands today to recreate an issue I've been experiencing with the zoom HUDs. It's weird because I've asked a few other people and nobody else seems to be suffering with this, but at random intervals my HUD fails to load and I'm left with the HUD stats from the previous hand. I had a session with PT support and they identified why it was happening but told me it was out of their hands, so I contacted Stars, waited a month and then received an email telling me it had been fixed...which it hadn't...

Hopefully they'll get to the bottom of this soon. Would be curious to know if anyone else is noticing this as I can't see any reason why a pokerstars software issue would be affecting me solely?

Do you grind for 3-4 hours straight or do you take breaks in between? I find it a lot easier to keep my concentration/focus etc just playing small half hour sessions (200-300 hands 2 tabling) and then a 30-60 min break, make a cuppa/food, watch some tv, study etc then rinse and repeat. Maybe i'm just getting old and can't stare at the computer screen longer than half an hour though lol

Cheers man. I usually set my alarm for 45 mins and cover the clock on my PC. If I’m trying to hammer good volume I’ll sit out, go stretch my legs for a bit, maybe do some small chores then come back and sit back in. 45mins feels the right length of time for optimising focus. Have had a couple of much longer sittings but it can become very auto-piloty and not very good to sit for so long without at least a small rest and leg-stretch.


This is very true and the benefit of having a detailed HUD will be somewhat negligible at the stakes I’m playing (although still some benefits) but I suppose I view it as laying the foundations for moving up where you can start building good samples on regs. The HUD work will be taking a backseat for a good few weeks as I’ve got a solid base to work with and don’t want to have too much too soon.

Yeah definitely lol. Another good tip is to open up the 'observe' table every break and let your HUD gain extra stats on opponents it's extra helpful because the observe table just shows all the big pots so you'll get some brilliant info

I spend an extra 5-10 mins going over the replayer, making notes on bet sizing tells, bluffing tendencies etc as well it deffo helps a lot lol

Yoo. Hit my volume today. Was actually gona fail hard again but sat down for a session at midnight intending to play an hour then ended up glued for three and a half. The games were so ****ing juicy I thought it was 2013 again. Also ran as well as I have for a while and finished with over 1000bb combined on my two tables, and don't think I was down too much when the heat started so should've made at least 5 or 6 BI. Possibly biggest winning session since playing these games again. Feels good man.

H1 - I feel like such a noob 3betting flop here but I think it's fine against a rando, and with stacks slightly deeper than starting. If they've got an OP they're never folding and if we're set-over-setting then we don't want dirty turns killing it.






H2 - Don't think this is too thin vs a rando but would like confirmation of that? If they've got Ax then there's so many bluffs they could put us on.






H3 - I think (hope) this is fine against a guy with not great looking stats over 12 hands. (lol sample)






H4 - Having the Qh isn't ideal but called down anyway. Actually, thinking about it, if they have AA and KK for value and only AKhh and AJhh then it might be a bad call-down. Just depends on whether they play AA or KK this way.






H5 - Villain's ICMizer license must've ran out.






H6 - The fastest 4b-jam of all time. I tanked for ages. Not sure what I'm meant to do here against a rando. Fast jam feels like AK or AQs but if they ever do this with the nuts we can't call, which we can't know of course...I think I should've called and expect to see some random crap more than the nuts.






H7 - Pretty tight laydown. There's maybe a few 2pr that bet this strong, then all the sets, a few straights, and possibly (but unlikely) some hands turned into bluffs.






H8 - Tight reggy stats over 100 hands. So happy to get called here.






H9 - Beautiful river.






H10 - SB was such a funplayer, flatting stuff like 85o in sb vs UTG then c/c on J T 2 with just a BDFD. Different turn and rivers and this could've been anything from magic to tragic. Almost folded turn but thought I had odds, especially as they could've done this with A3 or A2. Sick carrier-bag bet vs the nut low though. (wouldn't be surprised if I chop ev once in a blue moon lol)






H11 - Not entirely sure how to play this turn. MP is a reg with tiny 3b and flatting stats from MP. CO is just a rando. Looking at it now I think I should just bet the turn as MP probably had a set. As played think river is fine as reg will never vbet or bluff with worse.

The hand where I 3b the flop with top set I suppose I've been set over setted a few times by regs in situations where they probably shouldn't be 3b flop. This is different though as the board is wet and we're slightly deeper than starting + it was against a rando I think?

I'm only two-tabling at the moment, been thinking about starting to have some sessions with another but my hands are slightly tied by this zoom HUD issue I'm having. I've sent log files to stars so hopefully they can get to the bottom of it.

Played for 3hrs 14mins today including the 10k freeroll. It was way tougher than yesterday. Funny how it's difficult to know what to do when you aren't just smashing flops.

Think I played ok although there were a lot of BvB spots as the opener where I felt totally clueless. It impressed on me the urgency to at least start doing a bit of study in that area and that's something I'm going to put some work into in the coming week.

Hit my volume target and thought the games were pretty soft tonight. I think I'm gona aim to put in a big weekend next week as, compared with the games at off-peak times in the week, it really is night and day. (excuse the pun)

H1 - Not sure whether the flat is too loose this shallow but it can't be terrible. Sunny runout.






H2 - Rando 3b the BTN, and sb cold-call is a rando too. Think with all the dead money this is fine.






H3 - Deserved cooler.






H4 - Aggro guy. Think my turn check is a scared mistake. On river we don't block NF and I just don't see what raises here that we beat. Looking at it now though, maybe it's a bit weak on my part and we just have to pay such a small raise? They should only really have QT and flushes. Not impossible they have AJ and opt to raise although we obv block that. Also not impossible they just decide to bluff-raise something weird.






H5 - Failed hero vs rando because of the river bet size. Generally players will bet smaller because the flush got there. We block some of the key hands we want them to have but also block some of their value.






H6 - I think this is fine vs a reg.






H7 - Unfortunate vs rando who is surely stacking off relatively easy with TPs. Is there a case to check turn and pile river to induce calls from AQ and whatever other Qx they can have?






H8 - These spots confuse me but I struggle to see what bluffs here, or what worse bets for value. They had aggressive but reggy looking stats over a small sample.

It's been a bit of a poor week as I wobbled mentally during the first half. It's unfortunate but I do have mental-health issues that flare up regularly. However, as I get older and start to understand myself better I can take solace in the fact that I'm implementing lifestyle pillars to prevent falling down the rabbit-hole completely. I'm tee-total and won't be drinking until Christmas; I eat a good diet; I exercise and I'm in the process of building a daily meditation habit. I'm also learning to overcome my damaging all-or-nothing, perfectionist mindset. I really do think that having all those things in my life is helping these periods of darkness to pass over quicker than in the past. I'm feeling good again now whereas, in the past, I wouldn't have had the tools to stop myself sinking towards rock-bottom. I'm sure the week to come will be better.


WRT poker, I'm still largely unimpressed with what I'm making but at least I'm making something. The bankroll is slowly growing. I'm sure an extended period of heat will come soon.


Pokerstars are also aware of the software issue pooning my HUD and are working on fixing it. As soon as they do I'm going to start mixing in a 3rd table.

h4: makes for a nice check imo, but it might be wrong because i check too much. as played not sure if our range can warrant such a large betsize. but if you want to go for the exploit, thats obv also fine.

h5: that for me on the other hand is a clear check. we have showdown value and can't really barrel any turn.

h6: makes me tilt only by looking at it and that we have to fold such a hand on NL10, but very good laydown. not sure i could make it ingame, probably always click the call button and hate my life.

h8: would probably raise a bit higher on the turn, but again good fold imo.

Yo. Decent day productivity wise.

Spent 31mins in the morning studying up on calculating immediate pot odds when drawing, and created a word file with information and some formulas so I can practise off-table and start being able to apply the maths in-game. I know it's ******ed for someone who's been on these forums pushing a decade now to be learning about pot odds, but I have to admit I've never truly learnt some of the most fundamental poker concepts beyond the basic details. I suppose it's better late than never.


The grind was both good and bad. Played for 5hrs 58mins in total, which smashes the goal (got busy few days coming up that will affect my grind) and I made good money. Actually had just under 1000bb on one table when I finished. Was desperate to get it over 1k so I could screenshot but I guess that can wait til another time. Didn't lose heaps before the stacks started moving in the right direction so probably made a good 4 or 5BI I imagine.


The bad part is that I'm still making some absurd spews in medium-sized pots, which I suppose is an improvement on the larger spews I was making a few weeks back... It's still awful though and as I've said already in this thread, as aggressive as these games have become it's still only 10NL and the money is made from having solid fundamentals and maintaining discipline. The fact I'm doing so poorly is down to nothing more than regular lapses in that discipline. I can only blame myself and it needs to change.

H6 - Turn gave me a boner. Not sure how to size up in a super deep situation so would be very curious to hear opinions. River is probably misplayed especially as flushes get there. Would love opinions.

Yooo. As mentioned I was pretty busy today with other stuff so poker time was limited, but got everything done.

Grind was steady. Didn't play much but focused on just playing solid and disciplined. Think I achieved that although it's nothing to shout about when you're not putting in volume. That's when mental-game gets truly tested.

Also finished with a good little study session on pot odds. It's fairly simple, although it gets more complicated when you're thinking about implied odds and "outs" that might actually be dead. Slightly annoying that I couldn't review yesterdays spots as I have this goal of not looking at results, which is pretty important, but only realised today that you can't look at yesterdays hands without breaking that goal. Will just have to do my studying after sessions then.

H1 - This is a spot I studied against a rando with solid enough looking stats. It's obv possible we could be up against lower sets though it seems unlikely to me. If they bet smaller on river I probably call.






H2 - This player has folded to 3/4 3bs when opening and 4b vs 3b is 0/5. (don't know why those numbers don't match?)
I call because I see they have quite a large BTN 3b stat (23% or 3/13) so might perceive BTN 3bs as wide, and I decide to try to keep their bluffs in by flatting.
Not sure about it all though. K on the flop is clearly awful for us.






H3 - Looking at this now I think I should call vs what looks like a pretty poor reg. Even for this player there shouldn't be too much JTs in their range. Actually fold this pre a lot unless table conditions are good.






H4 - Rando. Not sure if this is ok when we have no information that a player raises draws. It's obv never terrible as we have a NFD. I suppose my hope was that they also had a FD or even a straight draw and would call it off.






H5 - Dream turn and river against a fish.






H6 - Loose open to get at the BB. Flat in sb looks a tight and passive player over a small sample. I think flop and especially turn are close but when they pile river like this I feel better because it's got to be JT hasn't it.

Have been told by stars to try re-downloading both stars and PT4 to see if it fixes the HUD issue. Suppose I'll look into that tomorrow. Need to make sure I can do it and reinstall all my data so could take longer than it sounds making sure I don't **** things up. Will create a restore point first in case it goes pear shaped.

Yo. Done the uninstall and reinstall of stars and PT4 without any hiccups. Did stars first, tested it and the HUD issue was still happening so did PT4 after that and just played 100 or so hands without seeing it. It doesn't mean it's fixed because it varies so it can happen 10 times in 100 and then not for 150. I guess I'll find out for sure tomorrow.

Also ran pretty well in the 200 or so test hands I played and made a few BI.


For anyone who is interested, the stoke game was awful (unless you're a wigan supporter...or anyone other than stoke as we seem to be universally disliked) as we got dicked 0-3 and were ****ing atrocious. Me and my mates left when Williams got sent off and I almost never leave early even when it's been worse. **** knows what's going on at the club but it's ****ing toxic right now. Super depressing and was all so preventable.

I've always liked Stoke since they got promoted to the Premier League in 2008, one of those teams that seemed they'd never get relegated but never really break into the top 6 so last season was a shock, surprised they've started this season so terribly, I fancied them to come straight back up lol.

Nice hands though, i'm sure winning a couple BIs softens the blow

Our biggest problem is the transfer team. If things don't turn around very soon then the supporters will be baying for blood. I've seen that happen in the past (was only a child) but it's still scarred on my memory. The club is rotten right now but it's not irredeemable as the championship is a long season.

And ye I actually had a good, productive night after the trauma.

Really solid day. Hit all my goals and ran decent so made a good few BI.

At one point early in the session I felt very much in the zone although I also had a spell later on where I felt clueless. I was reading another PGC thread and the OP is deep into spirituality and mindfulness, and was talking about how he realised during grinding that he'd be forgetting to breathe during tense pots, and how that can affect your ability to think clearly. It's a very interesting observation and I'm going to try to make sure I'm always breathing comfortably because I can go very tight-chested when playing and it's not a good feeling.

Also ran deep in the 100k freeroll. Was actually very close to passing the $55 ticket bubble but ended up with a $22 ticket. Can't complain at finishing in the <top 1% of the field! Looking forward to finding a good structured reg-speed and grinding that.

H4 - Got an automated note that this guy defended a 3b IP with T2s. Now whether it was against a fish doing one of those silly click-3bs from the sb IDK, but felt pretty happy calling down here. Well played to the rec for shoving a set in a spot where a lot of bad players won't.






H5 - This reg has extremely tight 3bs except OTB where they've been seen 3b 74s. Still though, that could've been a moment of madness from a generally nitty reg, so PF may be highly questionable. Post-flop though I actually really like my line as most of the strong Ax in their range surely won't call the turn barrel.






H6 - This is arguably the worst mistake I made this session. Quickly clicked call without properly thinking it through, but 99 seems unlikely, we block 44 hard and if they've got 33 then whatever gg, whereas on the other hand they might make this sb complete with a bunch of suited deuces that call the flop raise with a BDFD. Honestly so annoyed at myself for leaving 50bb on the table.






H7 - Think my flop bet might be a mistake against this aggro rec as the hands I'm bluffing might not fold anyway. As played river was a snap-call because who tf would play nutted PP this way.

Got a reasonably busy day off-tables tomorrow so there won't be a huge grind incoming, but got about 9hrs of grinding to do to hit the weekly volume goal so will push myself to give myself as little stress as possible on funday evening.
