Session #85
In for $200 at 6:46p
Out for $322 at 4:31a
Bankroll is at $8683

Card dead for pretty much the entire session. I was at a decent game until it broke and then the next game I went to was wild which is why I was there till 4:30 in the morning lol. There was one player who was wasted and had like 600-700 in front of him and was actually playing pretty well. He would randomly scream "BALLER CALL" and then just shove his entire stack into the middle and making a mess. When he would do this he had shown the nuts 75% of the time and showed a bluff 25% of the time so it was really interesting seeing what he was playing. Unfortunately I was not the recipient of his 700 dollar stack. My friend matt was the recipient when this guy did this preflop and matt had AA. lol I was in the game just folding and folding and folding which was kind of frustrating because the game was so juicey but at the same time I was still booking a W and I cant ask for much more than that.

I played an interesting hand against a player named cash and nico. I have sat at tables with cash before but we have never played a hand together before.

Cash utg 180
I am utg1 290
Nico utg2 55
cash(utg) opens to 6, I have KdKc in utg1 I 3b to 18, Nico(utg2) snap calls, btn calls and btn calls.
Flop 945hhh
Cash checks, I bet 75?????, Nico calls all in for 37, btn folds, cash jams 163. I folded after a little bit of thought.

My flop bet was a pot size bet, I for some reason thought I had 50 in my hand but had 1 green too many in my hand. I still think I fold to a jam.

I didn't play any other interesting hands since I was super card dead.

Session #86 (9/30)
In for a total of $320 at 7:58p
Out for $29 at 10:39p
Bankroll us at $8530

Somewhere my bankroll number got messed up and I cant figure out where but $8530 is my current roll. This post is going to just be a quick update. I played Sunday because I wasnt able to play at all this past weekend. I got a little out of line with JJ. I opened JJ in ep and got 3b from a lp player, and I flat. Flop is K high and it checks through, turn is A, I lead, he calls. river, I jam, he snaps with KK. I had been doing well working these plays out of my game and just picking better spots. He played his hand very well. If he doesnt check the flop he may get one street out of me. By him checking he nails me for trying to rep an A. Oh well, on to the next session. This week has been super busy and stressful with class so I havent gotten to play at all but I hope to play tonight and hopefully Saturday, depending on if we go to the home football game. There is a casino that runs a 1-3 game about 25-30 minutes from where I live so I may try that out tonight. They usually only get 1 or 2 games running but I feel like a change of scenery.

My local casino has had a change of management and there are so many things they are changing.
- they closed the cage inside the poker room. (not sure why they did this, the main cage is now super bogged down. they have a "chips only" line but no one is ever working it)
- previously, players werent allowed to buy in at the table, but I heard they are changing this which will be nice.
- new rake structure, 12.5% $5 max rake drop + 10% $2 promo drop. Previous structure was 10% $6 max + $1 promo drop. This seems like a really bad deal for 1-2 players.
- added call-ins to get on the wait list
- they are starting to add new promos as well. I have mixed feelings about promos. I understand that they bring in fish and widen the player pool but sometimes I feel like it takes away from the game. During the high hands people want to try and get so many hands in and sometimes I take a little bit to think through a decision and I just feel rushed. It ll be interesting to see what kind of promos they introduce.
- I heard they are bringing in a button straddle which could be interesting.

Session #90
$35 dollar mtt freezeout
9th out of 27.
DNC
Bankroll was at $8540

Wednesday night I got home from Cincinnati and drove to the local american legion where I started playing 35 dollar tourneys with 1-2 cash afterwords. My grandpa has been a regular in the tourney for a long time and was excited for me to come and play. I didnt realize how lol the tourney actually was when I used to play there all the time. haha. I never saw anyone 3b or bluff hahaha. I ended up making it to the final table out of 3 tables and busted in 9th, my grandpa cashed and got 3rd!

Session #91
In for a total of $300 at 8:05p (MotorCity, Detroit, MI, last night)
Out for $86 at 12:27a
Bankroll is at $8326
I am home for fall break and started it off by getting right to Detroit. I had never been to MotorCity and it was actually a pretty cool room. They had comped food in the room and the action was nuts. I cant tell you how many times I saw 62, 53, 49, 74 get showndown in 100bb+ pots. I also saw a guy call all in for 160 with AT hi. I felt like I was snapped into an parallel universe where poker was played the opposite way haha. I saw a 3 way all in on the turn. Board was 532K, 57 v 62 v 53 in a $600 pot and the river was a 6. lollll. Unfortunately I could not get anything going. I was up to 310 early in the session after I stacked a guy for 50 bucks but it was all down hill from there. I look at JJ once, 99 twice, 88, 66, 22, once. Never saw AA, KK, QQ, TT, AKs/o, AQs, AJs/o, ATs, KQs/o, KJo, QJs/o. So it was a pretty card dead/flop dead game. I plan on playing in Toledo tonight and then Detroit again tomorrow.

2 session update.

Session #92 (10/12)
In for a total of $600 at 6:19p (Hollywood, Toledo, OH)
Out for $464 at 12:59a

This session started off with me getting absolutely buried early in the session.

My 3rd hand of the session,
200eff
straddle on
I am on btn with TdTc I raise to 20, straddle calls.
Flop 832hcc
Straddle checks, I bet 30 and he rips it in for 180. we????
I called which I believe to be correct. Had A8cc
Turn Js
River 5c
So we get stacked on the 3 hand into the session. I later moved to a better game with a lot of money to my right and played this hand.

250eff utg, seemed weak on his checks, I had attacked his straddle a few orbits prior
I cover and have a tight table image.
Straddle on.
Folds to me in HJ w J8cc, I open to 20, straddle calls.
Flop 96Thhx
utg checks, I bet 30, utg calls
Turn Kc
utg checks, I bet 60, utg calls
River 2d
utg checks, do we empty the clip ??

Spoiler:
I ended up going all in on the river and he tanked and eventually found a fold. After talking with my friend, I think J8s is a little loose opening from the HJ in a straddle pot where eff stacks sizes are halved. and we both thought that a jam would be the correct sizing so I think I played the hand pretty well.

I dug my self almost out of the hole, I have been battling a cold the past 7 days and it is hard for me to not get tired after 4 hours in, hopefully I can fight it off and get back in the streets.

Session #93 (10/13)
In for a total of $300 at 5:41p (Hollywood, Toledo, OH)
Out for a total of $0 at 10:28p
Bankroll is at $7890

This session was some of the worst poker I have played in quite a long time. I am not sure if I was just too exhausted from being sick and a lot of driving or what was going on. I have 2 hands that I played that are just really poorly played.

200eff
5-6 limps, I have 88 in bb I check. (Should I be squeezing here to like 20? One of my home casino friends said checking is fine, no need to squeeze)
Flop 789ddx
I lead 10 from bb, utg & utg2 call, co raises to 30, I call, utg folds, and utg2 jams for 175, co folds and I folded as well.
This folds is just terrible all around. I just got really lost in the hand since I thought I should have been squeezing pf. But against his range I have at least 35% which is what I need to call here. I got in the mind set of, I am running bad, why didn't I raise pf, what hand would he do this with, instead of the range he would be doing this with. Just a bad fold on my part. The guy said he had TP+SD. Which is a hand that could take this odd line.

The next hand I have was my bust hand and I just completely misplayed it.

380eff
sb covers but not by much, has been drinking a lot has been the most active at the table
I have AKs in utg and open to 10, sb calls.
Flop A46r
Checks through
Turn Qx
sb leads 16, I call
River Tx
sb bets 16, I raise to 50, he jams, I tank call. he had KJ

I beat my self up on this hand really bad after the session. WHY CANT I JUST CALL THE RIVER. AHHHHHHHH. makes me sick. I dont mind mixing in some checks on the flop. I think in 1-2 there is no need to balance. On the turn a raise is in order I believe. The river is just a call and it pisses me off reliving this hand because of
how bad I played this. ugh.

Session #94
In for $200 at 7:00p
Out for $0 at 11:42p
Bankroll is at $7705

Back at my home casino. Ran well the first 2 hours and was up to $480. I folded KK pf for the first time ever. I opened in the lj over a limp to 12, hj 3b to 31, co cold 4b jams 280. I folded and he showed one A and later said he had the other A. I had a pretty good read on him which allowed me to fold KK quite easy actually, after some annoyance of knowing I ran into AA. I was in a pretty decent game and it was playing quite deep. A few players had 500bb+ and a few others had 200bb+. I like playing deeper stack since you can play more hands and exploit some of the inferior players. After that hand where I folded KK pf it was all down hill, I just kept raising or 3b pf and whiffing flops. It felt good to scoop pots in the beginning but then it was back to being card dead and losing. My bust hand was KK v AA for 180bb and I stacked off. The one thing I am proud about is that I am mitigating my loses and keeping my losses manageable, I havent have a loss of $350 or more during this downswing. So hopefully by being able to minimize them my next upswing will be able to catapult me over 10k. My home casino is also changing the 1-2 to 1-3 starting nov 1, which is exciting since I have been wanting to move up in stakes but not necessarily 2-5 full time. Hopefully I start swinging back in the right direction!!

Session #95
In for $200 at 5:45p
Out for $525 at 10:50p
Bankroll is at $8030

I ran pretty well this session, I did misplay a hand early in the session but ended up winning the hand anyway.
CO (Cash) $200
SB (Solid thinking player, have a decent amount of hh with) $300
I am in HJ with $240

PF
3 limps, I have 3c3s in HJ and limp, CO and SB also limp.
Flop 3d4h9s
x to CO who bets 10, SB and I call
Turn Qs
SB leads 15, I call, and co calls.
River Tc
SB x I bet 50, co folds sb tanks for a minute or so and calls. I show and we are good.
Not raising the turn is where I messed up at, by raising the turn I am able to get worse hands to call. I think a raise to 40-50 would be ideal. On the river I think I would overbet jam and work in my bluffs with this strategy as well. Obv I would only take this line against players I have hh with.
I played a few other hands one where I jammed the river with TPTK and couldnt get a call from TPSK unfortunately. and other hand where I got super thing value from a player who I assume looked me up with A high on a board of 8h9hTsTh8s.
1 limp, I raise Kd9d from btn, limper calls, I bet flop, x x turn, i bet small on river and got the A hi call.

I am looking forward to Nov 1 when our 1-2 game gets changed to 1-3, hopefully this move up in stake level helps me make a push to 10k by the end of the year.

Hi shakeDaddy!
Following along. Glad to see you grinding away.
I wanted to put a ban on myself. Been exposing some leaky poker thoughts lately. Hey, I'm just a MA rec. But, I can't help myself!
I know you admit yourself, you didn't play the hand optimally.
You got a set. That's why you play small pocket pairs.
I would have tried to get all the money in.
But that's just old me I guess.
Lol. I'm not editing out what I wrote. We all need a good laugh once in a while!
I totally misread what you wrote!
I thought you called a 50 river bet!
Betting 50 on river and calling, two totally different things !
Ok, yeah, you should of still raised Turn.

Glad to see you are still following along!! Sounds like you have been having some fun experimenting haha especially if you had to impose the self ban lol. Keep having fun with it, as long as you are able to afford mixing it up!! But yes, raising the turn for sure would have been best. I have been slacking off a lot with the updates recently. I will put in where I am at in a separate post and hopefully be able to get back to regular posts!

Nice score young man. +1044, thumbs up.
Yeah, I"m still learning in my old age, or at least trying. For example, I'm back to buying in for 200 instead of 300. 100 is too small for my playing style where as I feel 200 is perfect. I realised, it is perhaps better to leave the poker advise for the more accomplished.
Yeah, of course I'm still following along.

It was great running hot for 30 minutes in that session. I went from 585 to 1300 in a few hands. But yeah if buying in for 200 is conducive to your strategy or your play style by all means do not feel like you should be getting in there for the max!!

Session #100
In for a total of $560 at 5:44p
Out for $604 at 11:54p
Bankroll is at $9211

This session was Thursday night. It was the first night that game was changed from 1-2 to 1-3 so I am pretty excited to "move up in stakes" a bit. I wanted to play this weekend but I ended up going home for some of my family members birthdays. I started off in a really poor game. The average age was 70+ and just wasnt not good. I table changed after a while to a much better game. A reg fish was there, and him and his buddy had been there for 27 hours and when I left at midnight they were still there lol. They only had like 5-600 and were probably in the game for more so idk why they were still there.

LJ $450 (nit)
HJ $350 (no history, middle age guy)
I have $340 in the SB
PF
4 limps, I raise to $30 in the SB with AhKd LJ and HJ both call. (is this sizing okay? too small too large?)
Flop AQ3r
I bet $75, HJ folds, LJ calls (sizing here? kind of puts us with an awkward stack heading to the Turn)
Turn Td
I check, HJ bets $75, I tank fold face up and he acts very frustrated. Said he had ATo (I think this fold isnt standard but he really seemed like he wanted the call)

After talking this hand with my buddy I think a raise pf to 25 and then a 50 dollar flop bet sets us up much better to go for 3 streets later.

I played pretty well I thought and was quite active. I was very proud that I was able to make back all my loss as I was stuck over 300 at one point! These wins feel better than even some of my 300-400 dollar wins. Grinding back and playing well is a great feeling

Session #102 (thursday, 10.8)
In for $300 at 7:00p
Out for $218 at 10:50p
Bankroll is at $8624

I feel have been playing quite well and also seeing some run good! I have a few hands to just though from thursday.

1.
I opened AKs in EP and got 3 streets of value vs a short stack.

2.
Opened KQo in MP, LP flats KK with $60eff. Flop QJ6, I cbet and he min raises to 25, I put him in and he calls and scoops

3.
I opened J8hh in UTG1 to 10, 5 calls, flop K62hhh, I bet 30, 1 call in LP, turn Tx, I bet 50 and LP folds.

4.
5 limps, I check in BB with ATo, flop QJ3r, checks around, Turn Kx I bet 6, btn calls, river Qx, I bet 50 and he snaps, we scoop.

5.
Open ATs in EP to 12, MP & LP call (same player from last hand, and has like 20 behind), Flop TQ8r checks around, turn 2x, I bet 15, MP folds, LP jams 20, I call, river Ax and we scoop vs his 99.

At this point I am sitting at 600ish and then I ran KK into AA and lost about 200 and then hit some more run bad to eventually book an unfortunate loss.

I played an interesting hand where the btn straddle was on, 5 players called, I have TT in the co, I make it 50 and the btn jams 280. I ended up folding and he showed AQs. After talking with some players I think vs this player type I should be getting it in and running it with him

Session #103 (yesterday 10.9)
In for $300 at 4:24p
Out for $602 at 1:18a
Bankroll is at $8926

The fish were out in this session that is for sure. All of my poker friends were playing tonight and I played with all of them which is a lot of fun! I was in a game where I was just trying to stack this fish but I couldnt completely stack him but I did get some off him.
I have been overbetting a bunch trying to get big value and it has been working so-so. I am super value weighted when I do it which is due to me running well and not having to bluff overbet to balance this. There is a guy who I play against quiet a bit that I 3 bet relentlessly and he sat in my game and I didnt 3b him once lol. He is a good guy and it is nothing personal, just whenever he opens I have a good hand. This was my first solid win I have booked at 1-3 in cincy so it feels nice to get in the black! It was also a lot of fun playing with my friends which usually doesnt happen since they are always playing the 2-5, 5-5 or 5-10 games. But with the recent move to 1-3 the higher games, mainly the 2-5 hasnt been running as much, or hasnt been good enough.

Session #104 (Sunday 11.11)
In for $300 at 3:55p
Out for $757at 8:32p
Bankroll $9383

In my last post I had the dates wrong, they should be 11.8 and 11.9 respectively.
I have been running well and playing well these last sessions. I have been mixing up my sizings a little bit more that I used to at 1-2. I have also been doing a great job of navigating post flop and not making large bluffs unless I am going vs a player I have more than sufficient history with. Preflop I have been widening my range, or just making my range closer to what it should be. Which is shown in this next hand.

BTN $135 eff (old guy, minimal history)
I cover in utg1
PF
I open 76cc in utg1 to $10, btnc calls.
Flop
A67dsh
I bet $7, btn raises to 20, I call
Turn Td
I check, btn bets 50, I put him in and he calls with A5o
River Kx
We scoop!!

This hand was kind of a gift from the guy hahah calling all in from an utg1 raise with A5o. Thank you sir.

Session #105 (yesterday 11.12, veterans day)
In for a total of $400 at 10:55a
Out for $692 at 6:34p
Bankroll is at $9675

Back to back session breaking all time highs for the bankroll! I am getting so close to 10k!! Just one more solid win and ill be there! I had my stack up to $918 in this session but couldnt push any higher and got bluffed out of 2 pots, one I should have called and the other I made the correct fold.

This is the first hand where I need to be calling.
Utg1 150eff (old guy, no history but seen before)
I cover in bb
PF
utg1 limps, sb completes I raise to 15 from bb with AKo, utg1 calls
Flop AQ2r
I bet 16, utg1 calls
Turn Jx
I bet 20, utg1 raises to 55, I folded and he shows JTs.
lol he was a really nice old guy and was super pumped to get a bluff through a kid lol. I think if I bet bigger on flop, around full pot, we can just get it in on the turn and if he has me beat then that is okay. I left my self some room to fold which I am not a big fan of. I just figured an old guy isnt raising 3rd pair with the st draw haha.

This is the hand that I made the correct lay down.
LJ 300eff (middle age guy, does some weird ****, showed his opponent both of his cards and his opponent showed one of his cards, on the flop with 200 behind still and then called him all the down knowingly drawing to 2 outs.
I cover in the utg1

I open ThTc in utg1 to 12, LJ calls, BTN calls.
Flop 246hhx
I bet 16, LJ raises to 35, btn folds, i call.
Turn 6h
I check, LJ bets 35, I call
River Kc
I check, LJ bets 75, back on us and I reluctantly fold.
he then showed A5o hahah.
