Re: ScottyCorbett: 2019 500z Grind and Beyond
Hey guys,
I am waiting until the months end to post the last week of results and a total monthly recap of January. Got crunched the last 2 days (see below), roughly down 9bi, but stupidly made that 9bi back today (Tuesday) so currently at peak for the month again XD. Thought I would post some session graphs in the meantime. glgl!

Re: ScottyCorbett: 2019 500z Grind and Beyond
JANUARY
Poker Study
total = 570/1200 minutes. The last week has been very slack for study. No dedicated session fulfilled and only did a handful of pio review spots on some key hands. Overall fell short of my 5 hour (300mins) a week goal this month. I don't think this is unattainable at all however I noticed my drive to study whilst sun-running is definitely lower and I prioritize volume. Obviously a poor excuse because I should still be able to fit in time to study more. Really going to try and get the groups 3 day study routine back in place for Feb!
Meditation
total = 40/280 minutes. Also fell very short on my mediation routine yikes. As I said last week this is a byproduct of my poor time management in the later eveing once my session have wrapped up. Trying to mediate before bed is a disaster as I get home late from the gym and it ends up being to alte to mediate. Next month I am going to make meditation a part of my morning routine instead and do it before I start my sessions. I think this is a much better idea and will allow me to get way more volume in here next month.
Mobility
total = 150/420. Unfortunately fell short here aswell. Although my goal wasnt met I definetely noticed great improvement in my ankle mobility which is great. I have eliminated that from being my squat kryptonite so next is to fix up my hips and thoracic spine mobility. To get better volume in I am also going to do this in my morning routine before playing. I tried to do this inbetween my 2 x3 hour session and it didn't work well at all.
Weight/Gym
total = 95.6kg (210lbs) --> 97.5kg (215lbs). Nice to report that I hit this goal on the head. Managed to gain 475g each week averaged which is perfect. Gym has been going very well also, improved alot on all my compound lifts and can now complete pull ups and dips unassisted for reasonable reps. Next month I will try to track my key lifts progression and post some graphs for each.
Poker Earnings
total = $23,713.46 AUD ($17,187.4 USD). Well, well, well. By far my most insane month of online poker to date. Ran about a gazillion BI above EV, won every flip possible, got an insane amount of volume in for me and ticked off my first full time month as a poker player. I stuck to my 6 hour days with 2 x3 hour sessions which worked out great compared to my old method of just grinding whenever. I also made an effort to not grind weekends at all and give myself some rest which I have struggled with in the past. Totaled 85.3k hands which is the most volume I have also ever acheived in 1 month. Overall, just an insanely good start to 2019 and crushing this 150k AUD challenge.
January Recap
First month full time and can say I loved every minute of it. I know its honeymoon stages ofc and I will obviously experience some burnout to come, but the freedom that I have had this month to do as I please has been super nutty. By far my best month financially. Hoping to keep up the consistency and volume next month. Also very happy with my progress in the gym and weight. I am slightly disappointed however with some of my lifestyle goals. I always manage to get slightly carried away with one priority and neglect others. Really need to up my game this month in February and try to get those numbers up.
$23,713.46/$150,000 AUD lets get this bread

Re: ScottyCorbett: 2019 500z Grind and Beyond
1st Feb --> 7th Feb
Poker Study
Filthy volume here, 380 minutes (6.3 hours). Finished off BVB flop nodes for SB & BB. **** is taking ****ing ages but I feel like I am learning a tonne from the wide range vs range interaction and finding so many possible exploits.
Meditation
Best week to date, managed to meditate 4 times. Obviously no notable changes yet because I haven't kept it consistent for long enough.
Mobility
Probably did 20 minutes all week. Didn't get in any dedicated sessions but did a few pre gym workout. Not my best effort here.
Weight
97.5kg --> 99kg. Probably still putting on weight a little too quick which is surprising. I've started my calories at 3500 and then backed them off to 3200 and still rapidly gaining weight. I might have to fall back to 3000 and track for the next month because otherwise too much of it is just storing as fat.
Poker Earnings
-$303.85AUD (-$215.07USD). Not a great week at the office. Got in relatively low volume (16k hands) and just ran really poor. Played decent but definitely made too many loose undisciplined river calls.
Week Recap
Complete 180 in terms of goal outcomes. Crushed study and meditating volume but crumbled in poker volume and earnings. Not necessarily a terrible weekly result, learnt alot so still happy.
Some Hands
H1)
Super interesting spot. So few things here, generally higher EV to be using a larger size on this texture, however for multiple reasons I deviate to a small size here with this combo. Generally this combo is a pure call and A9 and K9 with a spade are sometimes 3bet however I think im getting over X/R here so I decide to 3bet this time. 9 turn is interesting. I think most of my flop 3bet range (sets, combo draws, top pair/now trips and some over pairs) want to go fairly small on this turn to put oop range in a difficult spot + lose less when we get checked jammed into (assumed to be frequently give high 9x density from bb). Then once getting jammed into I assume we are almost always nutted here except vs A9 and unfortunately get shown the nuts. I did end up PIO this spot and once 3betting flop the hands is always played like this, however generally still not 3b this combo too often, mainly just some overpairs that unblobk 9x region.
H2) NIT OR ENDBOSS?
Not much to be said. Looked the **** in the eyes and made the fold. *queue Charlie Carrel F*CK GTO vid* Nah fwiw I think I should probably default to a mix size strat on turn with J7s but when I do take this line and face a snap river min 3bet just shrug fold.
H3)
Solid turn check raise by villain. Being BB here I have an overwhelmingly large essential nut adv here with 3x and UTG and SB both struggle to have many 3x at all so its a spot I can go ham. I like X/R this spade combo because we also have backdoor open ender on a Q or 8 and gutshot on a 7 or K. Turn improves essentially my entire range so opt for a v small size and then facing this joke of a x/r pretty sigh fold w/ my str8 flush draw mete D:

Re: ScottyCorbett: 2019 500z Grind and Beyond
8th Feb --> 14th Feb
Poker Study
Only 1 session this week. Finally finished all BvB flop nodes and now moving on to alot of turn strategies. I imagine I won't finish BvB for a good couple of months however the wide range spots are proving infinitely beneficial for most of my SRP game so definitely worthwhile.
Meditation
Not 1 session rip. When I get up all I want to do is grind so meditating here feels like a burden although its only 10 minutes. Not 100% sure where to schedule it in to be most effective.
Mobility
Totaled 1 session at the gym but slacked here real hard.
Weight
99kg --> 99.6kg. nice 600g increase and almost at the 100kg mark, fatboi inc.
Poker Earnings
$997.21AUD ($712.86USD). Fairly solid week, managed to swing all over the place in Feb so far.
Week Recap
Bit of a 'meh' week. Didnt study too much, didnt meditate, made a little bit of coin but had fun. Took me almost half a month but realized weeks ended on a Friday in Feb so will be updating this week correctly on the 15th I presume.
Some Hands
H1) Ahhh yes the ol' AJo float oop
H2) Posting AA trap every week untill spaz regs chill 2EZ
H3) Interesting 3BP vs Unknown
Vs flop 1/4 standard x/r with best Ax. Assume turn might be a pure range check on our end given our lack of AKo and K improves villains range w/ KK. However, I think in practice I like maximizing value from weaker Ax and making easy exlpo folds, expecting to never be bluffed.
H4) Largest pot I've ever witnessed XD
Fwiw I am not sure if I can explo fold QQ oop here being in the middle of 2 players but I assume it would be better given I assume a fish to not be 4betting AKo too often. Easy flop fold and then my mans in the bb just gives BU the old **** off call down :O
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Till Friday glgl

Re: ScottyCorbett: 2019 500z Grind and Beyond
Meditation:
After struggling for years with implementing an effective routine my buddy suggested two things: 1) do it in the morning and b) don’t set a timer.
It was the best advice regarding meditation I ever received and now it’s a highlight of my day and I NEVER skip it. By not setting a timer I immediately switched from feeling like “when is this over” to enjoying the process of watching my mind relax.
When making my PGC thread after a long hiatus from poker I looked around for other successful midstakes players and have found your hand analysis to be extremely helpful in figuring out what people are doing these days and I just wanted to say I really appreciate that! Your thread is one of my favs and I look fwd to your updates

Cool, yeah I found your thread from the vid you did with Skuzlad.
I don't regulate it. I just go until I feel that I've achieved a certain empty-mindedness that I'm looking for. Basically at first my mind can't relax at all and I am just getting a flood of constant thoughts that pull me out of my meditation, and then they gradually dissipate. It takes a widely varying amount for that to happen depending on my overall mental state so there's no regulation on my end, I just quit when I feel like it. Sometimes the process is so enjoyable I go for rly long periods, 45 mins

Thanks man. Ignition/Bovada allows you to download and import HH from their site which includes all whole cards, pretty unreal feature tbh especially for studying.
