You can, but figuring out the 50% of combos to call isn't as easy as just calling the strongest 50% and folding the weakest 50%. Sometimes folding a stronger hand and calling with a weaker one makes sense based on blocker effects.

Here's an example hand I looked at with Doug where I made way too tight of a fold:

iPoker - $2 NL (6 max) - Holdem - 5 players
Hand converted by PokerTracker 4

Hero (BB): 165.97 BB
UTG: 99.5 BB (VPIP: 26.51, PFR: 25.30, 3Bet Preflop: 7.69, Hands: 83)
CO: 16.66 BB (VPIP: 16.13, PFR: 12.90, 3Bet Preflop: 0.00, Hands: 31)
BTN: 141.9 BB (VPIP: 29.63, PFR: 20.00, 3Bet Preflop: 2.94, Hands: 83)
SB: 151.2 BB (VPIP: 40.00, PFR: 24.00, 3Bet Preflop: 0.00, Hands: 25)

SB posts SB 0.5 BB, Hero posts BB 1 BB

Pre Flop: (pot: 1.5 BB) Hero has A 6

fold, fold, fold, SB raises to 3 BB, Hero calls 2 BB

Flop: (6 BB, 2 players) 6 8 2
SB bets 4 BB, Hero calls 4 BB

Turn: (14 BB, 2 players) 5
SB checks, Hero checks

River: (14 BB, 2 players) 3
SB bets 14 BB, fold

SB wins 27.3 BB

So looking at this situation specifically: 4x makes up roughly 20% of my range, I need to call 50%, what does the rest of my range look like? Well, I won't have very many two pairs or 8x, because those would bet the turn. I could maybe have 87 or 89, but when I discussed this spot with Doug he preferred calling down with A6. Reason being that this spot is polarized: either a pair is good or its not. V is not going to have many bluffs that contain an A, and he should have far more bluffs with a 7 or 9 in his hand, making A6 a better call than 87 (although in practice both are calls)

In practice, calling 40% here is probably fine, but A6 is still in that top 40% (at least according to Doug. I'm about to leave the house but when I get a chance I'm going to write out my exact range street by street for this hand and figure it out)

I've been asked before and I've always said no. It's one of those things where I feel like I have a lot to learn still - but I have enough mastery of the game where if I coached someone less skilled than myself they could (imo) see a lot of improvement.

My problem is that if someone offers me $100/hour for my coaching it isn't worth my time to give away information that cheap, but at the same time I don't feel comfortable charging more than that because I'm still not a world class player - I still need a lot of coaching myself. So maybe in a couple years, but for now I think I'm still going to pass on any coaching offers.

confirmed that I'm playing the main. I have 10% of my action, buy in is covered. lets gooooooo

Thanks Thefabb4. I play on Ignition, but the HH is recorded in iPoker format. I like betonline, but haven't played there since I was a rec.

Live poker nits are the worst. Played a session two nights ago (2/5/10) where the flop was J52ddx. I had 95s and defended BB vs a button open. Flop I check call. Turn is a 5. I lead, he calls. River is a 2 (J5522ddxxx). I go all in for about 2/3 pot, villian tanks for about 30 seconds and does a one chip call. I table 95s and start counting my stack. He slow rolls JJ and says he thought I for sure had quads and he was just calling because he had to. Yeah man, the laggiest player definitely has to have quads here. you shoulda folded.

It's been a pretty **** week overall, but I don't really feel like writing a long post about the incompetence at the DMV. Spent about 20 hours this week just trying to get replacement license plates for my car (original plates were stolen). Still can't get them to cough up some plates, but I did get an extension from the judge yesterday so I have until September to deal with the DMV
