Re: satellite84's 2016 MTT Grind...

Finally had a nice finish yesterday with a chop in the $5.50 Deep Stacks. I also finished 11th in the Big $2.20 with a bunch of other cashes for around an $800 day, so a good win that hopefully will lead to bigger things today.

I have a big grind planned today and feel good, food prepped, all that stuff... so looking forward to getting as much gold as possible.

Re: satellite84's 2016 MTT Grind...

Had a fairly mundane Sunday, one deep run in the Big $4.40 but lost 1010 < AKo BvB with 34 to go... made a bunch of cashes, but everything fizzled early in the money for a small loss... the only thing exciting at all is making Day 2 of the "Super High Roller" $11 with $15K up top and a solid stack. Currently 310/704 with a just under average stack of $473K, so hopefully we can spin that into a proper deep run and get some excitement in this thread.

I also sold some action to a slightly higher ABI package today and will be dropping the Micro tourneys though I will still grind the $4.50s for now to keep variance in check.

Re: satellite84's 2016 MTT Grind...

Had a good Monday that ended with a 2nd place finish for $400, which was mostly profit by that point. I had a sad end to my Day 2 when my JJ lost to A5o BvB, but what can you do? Plenty more WCOOP chances ahead, including the $11 50K today!

Really enjoying keeping my table count to around 10 tables and focusing more on each hand, I have definitely been able to open my ranges up more and find way more soft spots to pick up chips without always having to resort to simply getting it in and trying to fade outs.

I will do a small session of about 12 tourneys today around WCOOP and then full sessions tomorrow and Thursday before I leave for a wedding until Sunday.

Re: satellite84's 2016 MTT Grind...

Got a good session in yesterday and ran up some big stacks in some nice stuff only to watch them get destroyed by run bad. Shrug, took a loss, not the end of the world.

I did feel a bit distracted yesterday though, so I am going to really concentrate today and try to play A game the whole way through knowing tomorrow and Saturday are days off for me and I can relax a bit before Sunday Funday.

Anyway GL all!

Re: satellite84's 2016 MTT Grind...

Arguably my worst session of the year, not quite dollar amount wise, but volume wise for simply bricking everything under the sun, managed one cash and a few bounties... played fine, just got AA cracked a bunch of times and kept losing flips for big stacks. Way it goes, not the way I wanted to end my recent grind before my little vacation, but such is life.

Off until Sunday, will likely only play my mWCOOPs on Sunday and maybe some SNGs as I can't start until later in the day... but as of Monday I will be back to the regular grind.

I'm basically doing every $4.50 that fire from 11 AM until 5 PM ET... and then all the base events $3.30-$11 in that time frame as well as booty builders $5.50-$11... I will add the BIG $22 and Mini Million on Sundays and I plan to stick at these levels until I hit $2000 online (we're at around $500 from where we started after some cashouts; there may be more of those depending on how long it takes to get to 2K and move up).

Anyway, GL to the grinders and peace... I'm off to a wedding!

Great read I feel like this thread has massive potential. It really motivates me to see someone working hard at the micro/low stakes and doing what it takes to move up hopefully after reading this thread some of your ethic will have rubbed off on me!

Thanks man, glad to read to that too!

I tagged a few hands from last week, but was not doing a tonne of study with the wedding coming up and the added WCOOP events, but now that the mini vacay is over, I will be trying to keep a better schedule that has more review and therefore more hand posts going forward and your input is always valued!

Back to the grind tomorrow!

Re: satellite84's 2016 MTT Grind...

Another rough day with an uber high cash rate and a loss to show for it. Running atrocious in all-ins still unfortunately, lucky for me these limits still have enough weak play, that it is still relatively easy to build stacks and get cashes, so the losses are rarely substantial.

I do have a strategy question for anyone reading, it's not based on one specific hand, but a situation that seems to come up in the early-early mid stages a fair bit when the stacks are still fairly deep... and it's on one of two boards and I am wondering what the consensus is for proceeding.

Assume we have little to no information on the opponent other than they are playing a micro-stakes event.

We have a hand like AK, we raise or even 3b preflop and see a flop heads up... it comes one of two ways...

1) K34, rainbow or maybe 2 suited cards...

2) it comes KJ10, 2 suited cards...

In both cases, we get check over jammed on for a large pot...

Now, this used to feel like a snap call a lot of the time against a random as they were doing it with weaker Ks so frequently it was worth running into a set on the first board or a massive draw/2 pair/set on the second board... but lately, I have been consistently smashing into nutted hands here and I am wondering, is it simply a case of clumped bad luck in these spots (as it is a small sample size, of course) or do I need to adjust here and simply lay these down nowadays and continue to battle on?

Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Back on the grind today.

Re: satellite84's 2016 MTT Grind...

So had a horrible day again yesterday ITM, but with a high cash rate. Hoping that changes soon. Made Day 2 of the $50K, but busted early today 88 < KQo AIPF. Shrug. $52 cash.

I had two hands towards the end of Day 1 where I punted 200k or so off my stack to leave myself 20bb for Day 2. I felt like the first one was not bad, I just ran into too strong a hand for him to find a fold, but interested to hear thoughts...

The second one I feel was probably a little spewy trying to get my chips back, but not sure if both the flop AND turn were spewy or just turn.

      Re: satellite84's 2016 MTT Grind...

Yesterday was another poor day. But, rather than dwell on that, I've been thinking about what I can do to improve things...

My GF and I have decided to move back to Thailand in February (she is going with her mom and sister for 3 weeks end of January and I will meet her after). I lived there for 5 years in my twenties.

My main problem is simply a lack of consistent volume. Each year, generally, I have major bouts of consistency followed by an extreme lack of play for long periods of time and by the end of the year I've grinded out some small profit to continue proving I am a winning player, but never enough to do it full time.

But if I am moving to Thailand, I will no longer have any other income and so it is important to figure out a way to do this as a full time source of income, at least for one year. And if done right, I should be able to move back to Canada in a year to settle down with a nice nest egg.

My main problem has always been that I rarely play tournaments that don't win me enough money on top to clear my entire day's buy-ins. I need to stop this, if I am grinding micro/low events right now, then I should be firing every $1 180man along side them and keeping my table count high, because although winning $50 in a vacuum isn't much, it does keep my ROI closer to even or in small profit in between those big runs and scores... and that's important for keeping my motivation from waning, but also as I'll be living abroad with only my savings to back me up, putting up winning months, even small ones sometimes during variance is crucial.

So I have packages sold for today through Monday, but today is mostly small stuff, I am going to try to keep my table count up closer to 15-18 tables today and fire as many SNGs as I can along side my usual grind.

The next two days I am playing a higher ABI around the Main Event and as it is already sold, I plan to continue with that package... and lower table count during those sessions.

Assuming I don't bink some extraordinary number that changes my basic plans... then I will take a couple days off next week to sort out my finances and plan my trip and then get back to a proper, scheduled grind in October.

I don't know if I will do poker forever or as a "career" but it is a perfect vehicle to use to set me up financially when I come back and spend an awesome year abroad with my GF before we settle down back in Canada or wherever we decide to do so a year from now.

      GL this weekend heroes!

I'll post my results from the weekend of course, too.

      Re: satellite84's 2016 MTT Grind...

So this month is over for me. I ended up not getting to fire the mini Main unfortunately as I forgot to check my buy-in restrictions and they were set too low. So that was sad. I had a small profit for the month overall, though I had an insane cash rate with very poor performance inside. I have reviewed a bunch of those HH and it's just been mostly bad beats and variance type spots. So whatever, it'll get better. I'm basically going to play around a $7.50 ABI next month and look to play 5 sessions per week of ~40 MTTs/SNGs or so...

I did get around 375 games which is good considering I didn't really play regularly until about 10 days in and I had the wedding mid month.

Next two months will be very solid, routine building grinds that hopefully see me end up at around a $20 ABI with about 75% of my action.

OK, GL anyone still grinding. Shot out to Pads obviously for being a hero.

See you on Sunday to start October!

Nice little break, played one live session, fairly uneventful $150 loss at 1/2. Will likely try to keep one Friday or Saturday session in per week until the Thailand move as it is still a very soft game that could be a nice boost to my income over the next few months.

Back on the online grind tomorrow with a 40 tourney session. Hopefully can get the month started off right, followed by Monday and Tuesday sessions as well.

      Re: satellite84's 2016 MTT Grind...

Hope everyone had a good holiday and is looking forward to the new year. I haven't been playing much at all the last couple months as I have been busy with real life and planning the move to back to Thailand. My GF flys out with her mom for a 3 week trip through Vietnam and Chiang Mai before I meet her in BKK on the 30th of January. So I will be staying with family in Toronto until then and trying to get back on a decent grind in January and if all goes to plan, I should be grinding the morning session 4-5 days per week in Thailand until mid July. From there, we'll see how it goes...

I will start a new PG&C I think for 2017, but I may squeeze a few sessions in before NYE later this week... so if I do I'll post them in here and then it should be a much more consistent grind from January 3rd on...

Next session should be Wednesday... will post after that one... GL grinders!
