After some inspiration this week I've decided to jump back into the poker arena. I have a full-time job that is flexible enough for me to log decent hours playing poker.
I'm going to play cash and see how much I can make by the end of next summer. I previously used to play part-time and had a very strong hourly rate at 1/2, 1/3 and 2/5 NLHE. I played, and won at 5/10 NLHE, but the sample size was so small due to how infrequently it ran at the local room that I cannot confidently assert I am a winning player at these stakes. I was a small winning player at LO8/NLHE up to 10/20. For this challenge I will be primarily sticking to NLHE and trying to mix in some PLO (to learn a new game).
The amount I donate to charity will be a function of the amount I earn. I plan on donating 10% of each 10,000 increment earned. I may implement some scaling donation so that the percent donated gets larger if I reach certain goals, or the thread has a lot of interest. This is a way to motivate me to return to poker, as a hobby this time, and to work hard for a cause I care about.
I'll consider this week the start of the challenge for record keeping.
Had one good session where I was in for 800 and up about 700 but lost a huge pot to a cooler short handed. Then lost another with AK to A9 on AA7 flop.
Hadn't updated this in a while. I had a busy July. In August I was able to go on several trips and log some hours. I reached the first 10k threshold which is great for my goal. I have some extended weekend trips coming up this next weekend and the weekend after where I will go play some cash during a tournament series. After that I won't be having time for any dedicated long trips/long hours until December.
