God damn I've never been so happy to be back on Mexican soil. Just had a kinda ridiculous night trying to go up to LA to play a long live session. I got flagged for secondary screening at the border, which was a little annoying but whatever. So I pull into the screening area and they tell me to step out of the car. Ok, seems standard so they can search. I get out and they say, hands behind your back. I'm like, what?
He says, "Hands behind your back, you're being detained."
"For what?"
"Hands behind your back now."
I put my hands behind my back and they cuff me. "Why am I being detained?"
"Because of your previous altercation at the border."
"What altercation, what are you talking about?" The officer just gives me this look like he knows I'm playing dumb, but I honestly have no ****ing idea what they're talking about. "This is my first time ever being put into secondary. I don't know about any altercation."
"Sure. So you've never crossed the border before?"
"No, that's not what I said. I've crossed here a handful of times, and I've never been pulled into secondary or had any kind of interaction with an agent that could be called an altercation."
"You'll find out soon enough why you're being detained."
So as we're talking I'm being walked into the detention/deportation room at the border crossing. Once inside they search me and chain me to a wall. The officer says someone will be back to ask some questions and get my fingerprints. I ask again what's going on, why am I being detained, is this just random (clearly not at this point, I'm the only one in this detention room even though several cars were flagged for secondary at the same time as me). They refuse to answer anything and just walk away. No one ever comes to question me and my fingerprints were never taken.
About 45 minutes later (I only know because I checked the time when I got out of the car and when I got back in) an officer approaches me and says ok, you're free to go. I said ok, but why was I detained in the first place? He said, oh we just do this because we don't want you to have to stand out there while your car is searched (as if it's snowing or some ****, this is southern california and it was nice out). I asked him what it was that got me sent to secondary in the first place. He said that's for them to know and me to find out. He gives me a football analogy; I'm the offense trying to score and they're on defense, so they can't tell me what play they're going to run before the ball is hiked. I'm like ok, I just don't wanna deal with this every time I cross. He just shrugs and walks away.
So I get unchained and I get my **** back from them, then another agent leads me out to my car. I ask her, is everyone who goes to secondary cuffed and sent to that room? She says no, only some people. I said, well why me? She says, because of your history with our agents. I'm like, what ****ing history? She just gives me the same look, the one that says, "Don't play dumb *******" Alright, whatever, apparently I have some history with the California Border Patrol that I'm unaware of. So I get back in my car, and the thing is a ****ing mess. It wasn't clean before, but now my box of books is overturned with books scattered across the car. My air mattress is out of the box and laid flat in the back seat when it used to be in the trunk, and they tore the box to shreds as if they were trying to find something inside of the cardboard. Though at least they were nice enough to return the shreds when they finished
anyway, took about 2 hours but I got through the border. First stop, ATM for some cash. Now, I already called my bank today to raise my debit card limit and let them know I'll be making a large withdrawal later tonight, because I know how my bank loves to cancel my debit card any time I try to use it. So I get to the ATM, make my withdrawal, processing, processing, processing, "Your transaction has been declined and your card has been deactivated. Please call customer service: XXX XXX XXXX"
fuuuuuuuuuuu
well ok, tonight's not my night but whatever, I just gotta make a quick call and get my card re activated, usually takes me 10 minutes (I have to make this call at least once every 1-2 weeks so I'm used to it). I call, wait a few minutes on hold, get through to the security department, and they tell me that my card can't be re activated until I speak with a senior security consultant. I said ok, connect me. Oh sorry sir, they don't come into work until 7am. I said put me through to the most senior supervisor you have. So she does, and he tells me the same ****: we can't unblock your card until you speak with a senior security consultant.
So I try to explain my situation, that I already called earlier to authorize this transaction, that I need this money for work and I can't sit around waiting until 7 am, etc. Doesn't make any difference, he can't unblock the card. I said take a look at when I opened my bank account; it was less than a month ago. I changed banks for this exact reason. And now, my new bank has lost me as a customer. Next time I'm in the states I'm closing my account with them. Wish I could tell the banks to **** off and just keep everything in cash but it isn't really feasible.
so yeah, I drove 2 hours there and got felt up by the border patrol just to turn around and head back home without playing a hand. fun night. stopped and got $200 worth of weed on the way home, cuz **** it, I was planning on being up all night so I guess I'm getting super lit. also bought 5k of eth/etc earlier tonight (@$107/$4.51) and I'm up 2% already. gotta enjoy the little things
tl;dr: the border patrol and my bank decided to tag team me on the same night
