So I'm taking a legitimate shot at going pro. It has taken me 6 months to grind $10,000 playing almost nothing but 1/2 homegames and the occasional road trip to Jacksonville. Sometimes I play 6 nights per week, other times less than once after I'm burnt out due to work commitments. The times I play every night I love it so I'm not concerned with actually being a full time pro.

The problem is I do not live in JV, I live in South Carolina so it's a bit of a haul to commute. My idea is that I'll just start driving every single weekend and getting in some solid time playing 2/5 in a nice public room with lots of players. There's really nowhere else for me to go that doesnt involve relocating first. If you ask me having a backup income with a full time job is the nuts, so until I can crush that with poker winnings I'll have to keep it. I dont just have any job, I have a lock on my company position. Very secure, pays well (65k), my boss just quit and they said I can have his job with a nice 10k raise. So giving this up and moving to FL to take a shot would be kind of insane. I have to find a way to do both.

Sure I could apply for jobs and stuff in FL but who knows if they'll suck or even last. How would you feel about a 4 hour one-way commute weekly to put in 20 hours of live play per week at the 2/5 level to build even harder? Am I thinking clearly here or should I really just commit to the city and relocate first, play poker later? This way once I build some steam I can grind nightly.

And lets just think 5 years ahead here, if I do well in JV should I really consider Vegas long term? While there are about 20-30 tables running of 2/5 nightly there, and maybe 1-2 tables of 5/10, I dont want to be a 2/5 grinder for life. I feel 5/10 is the resting point for all serious grinders, and to grind 5/10 you need more than 1 table. Vegas can offer this, but **** thats all the way across the country and something tells me that whole region of the country is going to explode or spontaneously combust or something one day. It just aint natural out there.

Equal distance. Are games softer there or something? I went once back when they had those electronic tables, hated them. I heard they have normal tables now.

Games are super soft there and I will tell u why. They have 10 electronic tables and 10 live tables. All live tables are for 2/5, and electronic is for 1/2. This forces anyone who wants to play live to play 2/5. I have played in jax multiple times and harrahs Cherokee games are much much softer. When they first opened up the live tables you could play abc poker and make 50$ an hour. It has slacked off a little in the past couple years but not much.
