Returning to Poker After a Long Hiatus Returning to Poker After a Long Hiatus

Hi!

I'm returning to the poker game after quite the hiatus and many life changes. In the last 6 years, I've moved many times, got a degree, a real person job, house, wife, kid, etc etc.
What's also changed was that my primary game back in the day was tournaments, and now I will be almost exclusively a cash game player.
But the love of poker has never faded. And now that I have easy access to a game that runs regularly, I thought it's time to start a new PG&C.

The specific goals for next year:
  • Play 50,000 hands between Jan 1st and Dec 31; average of 136 hands a day, or ~3 hours of play. My real goal is 100,000 hands but I just don't think that's realistic given other life factors.
  • Make at least $5,000 playing poker (stakes are $.50/$1.00, so an easy 10bb/100 hands
  • Post at least 1,000 hands during the year into this PG&C (average of 3 per day)
  • Spend at least 5 hour per week reading about poker, primarily focused on PLO as that is the weaker of the two games (my Hold'Em game needs work too for sure)

My primary goals in this thread will be to share hands that I'm having trouble with, hopefully get some advice, keep my self honest by posting my results often, force my self to go back and look at the hands that I'm playing that seem 'standard' and make sure they are, and just generally hone my poker skills.

House keeping note: The player pool in this game is fairly small, so I will not be using any of their names. I will instead be referring to them as Player 1, Player 3, et etc. But if you end up being a regular reader, I will use the same name every time.
So Shadowdodger will always be Hero (of course) in all hand histories, John Smith will always be player 2, Mary Jane will always be player 3. Etc etc.

The return is not off to a great start, but no where better to start than where I am today.

For completeness (mostly for my self, and my OCD) before finding the game this year, I was +$975 for the year.
Week 1 of Playing: -$257, 214 hands
Week 2 of Playing: -$655, 764 hands
Week 3 of Playing: -$101, 1,115 hands

This week is off to a rough start, but I'll update at the end of the week. In the mean time I've got a bunch of hands from today's session that I'm unsure about. Some I think are standard, and some I've probably played wrong.

Good luck - is this through an app or a local live game? 3 Hours a day is a lot between wife, kids and a regular job.

It's through an app, so it's a bit easier to multi task, but you're 100% right, it could end up being unachievable. But I think setting a goal that keeps me active and hungry is going to be beneficial. If I fall short, I'll figure that part out as we go along.
