I keep a separate 60 BI for lowly NL5. I could not imagine being under-rolled AND it be literally all my life money I'm playing with.

I've been looking at potentially going to uni next year too. I think I could get my Bachelor's Degree in 2 years or less, since I've already passed a bunch of subjects from years ago that I can probably still get credit for. I know a bunch of unis that have accepted people in my circumstances (got into top uni, did horribly, got kicked out, waited a few years then reapplied). I'm more motivated to study now than I previously was, so I think I could do a lot better. But ideally, I'll spend this year working and saving up money before I start again.

Very motivated. Something tells me you won't be anymore motivated next year. At least you accomplished your ideal goal of working hard and saving money in 2019.

So i just want to say that your commitment to being open and honest about your situation is phenomenal, and is the reason why so many people flock to these blogs and are rooting for you.

With that being said, I'd imagine that someone who listens, analyzes, and cross-references advice would sit down and say "Hmmm...everyone told me it was a bad idea to eat fast food every meal and they were right. Everyone told me it was a bad idea to buy PIO and they were right. Everyone told me it was a bad idea to rent a car to drive for Uber and they were right" and so on and come to the conclusion that your natural inclinations on things is absolute dog **** and should be ignored. I'm probably dating myself but there's a famous Seinfeld episode where George does the exact opposite of everything he thinks is correct and ends up with everything he wants. You're George.

Take this app play for instance. The rake on apps is insanely high, and the rakeback is correspondingly insanely high because the owners and affiliates are just making bank, even on 40-50% of your rake. I'd say conservatively you're generating $100-150 in rakeback per day. Not in rake...in rakeback. So in a week or two you're generating what you were loaned? staked? and your "friend" is then freerolling your action. It's a horrible deal for you. It's a horrible, no good, very bad deal for you. Much like a loan at 50% yearly interest, you've gotten yourself into a situation where you've lost and other people have won. Get out of it. Play on your own money and keep your own rakeback, or find someone to stake you and split the rakeback for a short period of time while you build your roll. You're clearly able to withdraw the funds, so I don't see why you aren't going off on your own, and even if you aren't, you said you've got a fallback so use that to bankroll yourself. Or have your wife, who has a great job and seemingly no bills, and trusts you and your poker skills, to fund your bankroll. You're married so it's all going to the same place anyway.

Here's another crazy idea that's ready to be ignored: get a job OP. Seriously, take an easy day job, no pizza delivery during the night, I mean 9-5 and save money. Pay back your "friend" who gave you a $1200 loan apparently "interest free" but he takes your rake back, which will be $1200 in no time AND you'll still have to pay him back. Are you sure you're not trolling us? Because you have some options which are so much ****ing better than your reality but somehow you chose the most ******ed ways to do things.

You literally have to pay no rent, bills, taxes, health insurance since you don't work, car insurance, gas, kids.. NOTHING.. 0 payments. Which it means if you find a job you'll earn lets say $2k per month which can help you a lot.

You can pay your interest-free debt to your friend (why the **** would you even mention no interest? he's supposed to be your friend, of course there is no ****ing interest) and then save money for a bankroll. You can play in evenings after work, you can play friday, saturday and sunday lots of hours live and chose 1 day during the week when you'll play live aswell. You can EASILY squeeze 4 days at the gym inbetween all this. All you need is 40-45 mins of high quality, high intensity training, and you'll still have time to play poker. Want to continue as "smartphone pro" instead of playing live? Great, you can do even more hours of that AFTER WORK. You go bust? Cool, no issues, you'll get the paycheck in 2 weeks and you can easily invest $1500 back into it. Maybe even buy a laptop and play on a normal screen. See? So many options.

Get a job in logistics, its very easy and not so demanding. Yea, sure, you might have to walk a bit.. bit its fun and healthy cause you're moving a lot AND you don't need to deal with people too much since you'll work in a warehouse. You'll also have a nice, fixed schedule. Options.

You'll ignore all this because you're a stupid ****, its fine, but never say that you are following our advices, because you clearly don't. My dinner got cold while writing this post, turns out that I'm actually the stupid **** after all. Best of luck

Quick Update:

Bankroll is just over $1200 now. Although volume has been quite low recently and I haven't been to the gym in about 4 days now, so even though results are looking steady, I can't be too proud of myself.

Anyway, here's an interesting hand I played yesterday:

60nl, $220 effective
Villain is tagged as a fish
Villain raises $1.80 UTG
MP calls $1.80
SB calls $1.80
Hero 3bets $9.90 BB with Jd Jc
Villain calls $9.90

Flop ($23.70) is 9h 7s 2h

Hero bets $7.50
Villain calls $7.50

Turn ($38.70) is 9h 7s 2h 8s

Hero checks
Villain bets $22
Hero calls $22

River ($82.70) is 9h 7s 2h 8s 7c

Hero checks
Villain bets $66
Hero ???

Spoiler:
Hero tank calls $66
Villain shows Ah Qs
Hero scoops a $214.70 pot

Pretty happy with the line I took here. The old me probably would've just barreled turn and forced villain to fold, thus winning me less money.

Thanks Petrucci!

Nah my phone is older than my wife's phone, so if anything, I'd want to upgrade my phone next. But I have no intention of doing that anytime soon. This Samsung Galaxy S7 works just fine.

The bankroll is at the stage where I'm planning to play exclusively 60nl now, only mixing in 40nl tables during off-peak times when I can't get enough action at 60nl.

If I win $300 more, I'll start taking shots at 100nl.

I don't plan to play any live poker until at least April, probably later. I'm focussing just on online poker for now.

And to the people saying I should play Ignition instead of the apps: no because Iggy sucks for 3 reasons:
1) The software is trash and constantly disconnects you.
2) The cashout system is painfully difficult and annoying.
3) The competition is much tougher.

MTTs are way too high variance. And live MTTs don't run frequently enough in my city, unless it's during a big series like the Aussie Millions.

If surprising that in your 'careful analysis' you did not notice many players are now ditching apps because of the rampant collusion and overall dodgyness of the format, yet you decided its the best choice now.

I can count iggy disconnections on 1 hand ever. Software is smooth especially on the website. Cashouts take a matter of hours every time. Competition is most probably comparable. You can track results and study hands unlike playing on a phone like a fish.

Welcome back. I haven't played seriously on line for 10 years, so I have no advice for you there. Nor do I have life advice because you're nowhere near bottom such that you'd listen.

That was a nice unexpected twist that you got a $1200 loan to get your $900 bankroll. Looking forward to more of them.

Good luck.
