How goes the real estate research? How do you go about studying for it? Do you have any country/city in mind at the moment?

It's going okay. I'm doing as much reading as I can, biggerpockets has a ton of material- articles, a podcast, forums like this. I've got some books i'm going thru from biggerpockets publishing and listening to some investors/finance/real estate podcasts. I also am reaching out to people that have done it before and am talking to my mentor about how to time it. Aaand going to any local meet-ups I can find for it like the one last week where I did some networking.

Looking definitely at the US, although I'm trying to work thru whether I'll invest where I'll live (like get a duplex as my first property and rent the other half) or invest separately in which case I'll have to figure out how to manage the property remotely and solve a couple other issues. Not sure yet.

To start with i'd recommend biggerpockets podcast as it is extensive and solid. Freakonomics is also good. I used to listen to traders podcast when I was trying out FX trading but I think retail trading is for schmucks and successful ex-wall streeters unless you're just doing value-based investing in strong companies but then you might as well go the vanguard route and spend your time elsewhere. Other good unrelated podcasts I listen to are sam harris' and joe rogan's.

Who to be, How to be, Where to be

These three questions are the focus of this year for me. I reflect on them often and I'm slowly having progress. I'm going to quickly jot down a few thoughts I've been having, I'll definitely come back to these questions more in the future.

Who to be
As simple as it sounds, I've come to realize that it's much easier being a truthful person if you don't have to lie. Preventing yourself from acting in such a way that you then have to cover it up works much better than afterwards having regret and being deceitful. Being truthful is very important to me especially in my relationships so acting in such a way that I can be proud of myself and my choices is something I've been trying to be more conscious of.

Recently I've been realizing that in areas that I am not an expert, I am not as competent as I thought, meaning I should reserve judgment and drawing conclusions before I educate myself about other opinions more. This goes for economics and trading mainly the former of which I'm actively trying to shore up.

Maintaining long distance friendships is something I'm getting better at although I should check in with a few people in the next few days before San Diego.

How to be
There are a few vices I need to keep in check. Stopping buying massages and instead transferring that money towards clothes is a better budget decision. Of course I could do both and I don't need either but massages are a money sink and clothes are reflective of how much I value myself through how well I present myself.

I wish I could find a partner but no such luck yet. This whole traveling around a lot thing is really hurting that endeavor. I'm still looking though and it's what I ultimately want.

I should drink less or work out more or both. Maybe not keeping alcohol where I live is a solution.

Where to be
Well I'm checking out San Diego in a week. From what I've heard that is the most promising location outside of the Bay Area and LA. Hopefully this summer I'll also visit Amsterdam, Iceland, Russia, Bulgaria, Barcelona and Boston with Vietnam and/or Bali later in the year. By the time my lease is up in January I hope to have a solid idea of where I want to settle down for the next few years. Right now I'm learning towards LA but I am keeping an open mind about it.

Anyway more to come for sure

Yeah def a solid read, thanks for the link. I appreciate any more content people think is good.

So I've been playing some online although not as much as I'd like to be. I'm thinking about updating my ignition balance after each session so there's something to sweat in here. I played some more 5/5/10 plo live today, session was breakeven although I called off 3 streets in a spot where a reg may not have enough bluffs on a 4 spade board with 3 spades in my hand. DUNNO

Never said I do it well =). Actually, I don't think I have a winning sample size at any stake of PLO. Probably 50k hands lifetime and breakeven. I always say I'd rather be good at PLO and prefer to play it, then I swing 12 BIs in a session and want to throw in the towel.

Outside of live PLO, I've predominately played micros though where no one folds and rake is ludicrous.

From what ive seen of the $1/2-$5/10 PLO on Ignition you should be set up well to decimate. Good luck!

That's good that you're so proactive about it. I'm trying to get into real estate too but finding it much harder to motivate myself hah.

Not that I've tried recently but I don't think it's so bad if you put in the PIO work

Yeah well I'm trying to learn what I can before I need to know it so I'm more prepared.

I am PIO-deficient, never used it. My NL experience is good enough for live sooo i'm fine with that.

It's just a dumb game but I love it. If you play micro plo I imagine ACR is a better gig with flat 27% rb and roughly equivalent pools up to 50 or 100.

Yeah games are def good aaaand ignitions down. I'm going to go play live

What's up guys I'm down in southern California checking out San Diego to see if I want to live here. I just got back from a short little 5/5 session at seven mile casino. I haven't done chip stacks in this blog yet but I figured I might as well for the documentation aspect, not the brag aspect (as this is definitely not a brag worthy stack). I just played real solid, didn't get out of line at any point and got my bluffs thru and some thin value bets called. It's a nice little casino. I really love their chips, they have a great weight to them and stack very nicely. The player pool was stupidly soft with only a few bad pros across the main game and the must move and then a bunch of recs that from what I gathered play a lot of hours and aren't terrible that serve as the games regs. I didn't get played back at once the whole time over 5:50 for a $1453 win. I did lose JJ<99 for half a stack (200-1k game) but otherwise the session was smooth sailing.

Spoiler:

I've been playing online a moderate amount too. After transferring 2.5k to another site to top it up, my ignition is at 8365.

I'm going to chill for a little bit and then head over to La Jolla beach to watch the sunrise and then go to sleep. Not sure what I'll do tomorrow. On the way back this evening I took a drive thru downtown San Diego and it is really nice. I think I could see myself living here. I prefer its feel to Santa Monica to be honest because it has a lot of the same pros but doesn't have the bougie feel to it. I also got to chat with a guy that is a CFO for a development company and got to talk about the local property market and his feelings about it, as well as hear some about his recent work/deals/experiences.

Life is great.

Back at my temporary home. Here are a few things I'm going to be working on in the next few days:

Working out regularly, running and some basic strength exercises.

Kicking a bad habit of mine one day at a time

Getting back to studying the game

Starting sessions. It doesn't matter as much how long I play for as long as I begin the sessions. I think if I get in the habit of this, the play-time will come. I just have to get over that initial inertia.

Real simple stuff but it helps for me to have it written down.

Much love dude and GL on the grind. I'm really curious what your 'bad habit of mine' is. I've dealt with a lot of 'bad habits' and I've overcome many obstacles that I never thought I would be able to. When you want it bad enough, you'll do it. When enough is enough, or you just know whatever that 'bad habit' is, just isn't worth it any more, you'll make the change.

Keep up the good work brother.

Right on. Thx dude, you're a south florida grinder? I was looking at some properties there but hurricanes got me scared to seriously look into it.
How I handle my sexuality and my sex life is getting a little out of hand. It's always been borderline unhealthy but recently its crossed over the line so I'm trying to dial back on it on all fronts, personally and how/who I interact with. Considering that I'd like to find a relationship/partner, now seems to be the time to finally put my foot down.

A more minor bad habit is having a few beers whenever I unwind which adds up to maybe 15-20 drinks a week if I have alcohol present in the home. That's something I'd like to cut back on as well. Some is fine but my present level is more than I'd like.

I just got back from a run and I've got some bad news guys. While I was weeding outside last week I was kept company by a 24/7 trail of ants across the porch. Today they are gone. RIP ant colonies' food supply, I'm sure you guys will find another, keep your chins (antennas?) up.

Yeah florida man is a thing for sure.

I played a short session online but games were pretty dead surprisingly so I hit up live for 8:10 with a small win. I made a pretty reckless bluff at 5/10NL trying to get a guy to fold the 2nd nut straight which didn't work and then it was slowly chipping up from there. Ignition is at 8883. I'll get a chip pic next time. I'd like to start posting pics of stacks from the different casinos I play at around the world and may include some other pics.

I'm off for a run in a bit then going to continue reading The Water Knife that was recommended to me. I did a bunch of errands earlier today and am very pleased overall with how I spent my time today. This level of effort is what I should be consistently putting in. I also didn't engage in the negative habit I'm trying to kick. I'm content.

Played some online, played some live. Lost a 4.5k pot at some 5/5/10 plo, both runs with Q758cc on Q74ssc vs AK68ss. Just got back from playing at the palace. Here's a chip pic.
Spoiler:

Those are in stacks of 30s.
I lost AK<JJ for 1.3k or so at the end so booked a medium win.

Now this game is in the middle of the ghetto. And its players are quite often really, really hood. I had one major hand that session where a guy that is pretty clearly a drug dealer came over and as soon as he sat down, unprompted, said to me "You look like a scared little bich" and for the next 5 minutes kept saying variations of that to me. Well, okay. A few minutes later in front of me are two $5 limps, I overlimp QQ, he 105, short stack allin for 125, I tank call and he tries to make it 1400 (1700 eff). He can't so just calls. Flop AQ6cc I check and he 1200, I click it in and on a 6o Ko runout scoop vs an unknown hand and he bounces. Pretty nice donation.

I also played some 3x/9x at 5/10plo online vs a bad reg who I thought was a spot while not sober. That was definitely a mistake but I quit pretty early on so it's kind of a push. In the future if I'm drinking at home I'll close my poker sites that are up in the background for sure.

Ignition is at 7476.

The sites available in the US. They're alright, not as good as previously tbh.

So I've done some live and some online again. Ignition is at 9129.
I'm considering taking some time off as I'm dealing with a really negative family situation right now that is causing me to slip into a depressive state. Playing doesn't seem like an option until I am healthy again.

Been living in south florida for 3+ years now and there's definitely a plethora of characters but there's also decent plo action between a good number of close by casion's/cardroom's. Haven't had the chance to play out on the west coast but hopefully i get the chance to here soon. Love the thread and keep crushing. Make it out here sometime to play before a hurricane wipes us off the map.

I hope you and your family work out whatever the situation is. I have been going through a lot of drama with my family for the past couple years now. The issue causing the drama hasnt changed but my outlook on it has. this may come off as narcissistic but i believe you are the center of your own universe, literally everything youve done since the second you were born was to make yourself happy. all the nice things you do for friends and family at the end of the day is so to make yourself happy. Now im not saying to not do nice things for your family and only yourself. The fact that they are your family means that them being happy also makes you happy. Regardless, nothing and nobody is worth sacrificing your happiness over. There is too much suffering in this short, uncertain thing we call life to not spend every possible ounce of your energy trying to make it more enjoyable rather than mulling over all the inevitable sh*ty moments were all required to go through. idk what your going through but just know that your a smart guy who CRUSHES one of the most competitive games of skill and is a couple years away from becoming a frickin real estate tycoon. your gonna get through this and look back on it as motivation for getting through the next thing life throws at you. Think of it merely as an opportunity to form a tolerance to tribulations. Honestly i might be talking to myself more than i am you right now but i hope something i said resonates with you because it took me years of pain and heartache to come to terms with this. Anyway i hope you feel better bruhbruh. Keep ya head up!
