Today is supposed to be an 8 hour day, it'll be tough because the non stop grinding from trying to catch up on hours I missed at the start of the month is wearing on me but I'm starting early and there's nothing on my calendar. If I make it thru this weekend hitting my hour targets I'm going to chill on Monday

Got in 7:58 today, 6:38 at the tables. Up 9.7k, the heater continues. I was at 10.5k but lost some back in my last session. Had a spewy hand where x/potted vs a 50bb stack with bottom 2 and nfd and got jammed on for 100bb more, stacked off vs top set and flush draw so in pretty bad shape. Dunno if I can find a fold there, maybe results oriented analysis of it being spewy because he had nut nut. Oh I lost AQKJhh on KJTxhhdd vs AQdd for heaps allin ott that was cool.

At 94.098/150k 96/200 hours on the month.

Put in 6:14 with 5:32 at the tables. Not as much as I would like, I'm definitely behind schedule now for my month's hours goal. I played a lot of hu and lost ~4.2k although printed some solid EV. I was looking at watches and came across the omega speedmaster moon to mars, it really caught my eye. Something to put away in the back of my mind.

It's really weird but when I win heaps it doesn't feel like anything, doesn't feel like money etc but when I lose lots I think of what it could have bought, how much money that really is and how hard it would be to earn in a real job etc. It doesn't stop me from putting in more hours but I can tell that there are some really bad thought processes that my brain defaults to and they only spring up after losing sessions, their positive equivalents don't occur after winning ones. I don't know what more to say, I try to rationalize them away and not let it affect me but they still do occur to me. Money isn't really a thing to me anyway in the sense of being aware of the value of $X. I was talking to a friend yesterday, and it occurred to me that I couldn't conceive of the difference in value between a $3k and a $5k watch. If you showed me one worth 3k or 5k I wouldn't be able to tell you and I'd believe both values. Likewise for other expenses that are above $1k. I don't have a good intuition/understanding of what things ought to be worth. I'm starting to understand properties and what $/sq ft a certain type of home ought to be worth in the area it's in but that's developed in almost the same way that people run sims in poker. Watches and other topics like that in life don't have the same availability of learning that I'd actively put time into understanding.

Just some thoughts

Definetely a blessing and a curse. I feel like losing the "feel" for money is kind of the reason youve been able to make so damn much of it lol. But the fact that you still feel those losses is what is going to inspire you to become a better player and remind you what winning feels like. In poker and in life having bad things(losses)happen feels bad in the moment but in reality it is the only way we know what good things feel like. Embrace all the negative emotions that come with losing so much so that you appreciate winning more. Try not to think as each day as + or - x amount of dollars. Just focus on your goals, whether that end up being to move up stakes to play more challenging competition or invest in real estate. And think of all the dollars youve made at poker as just another tool to accomplish this.
Oh ya and who tf knows about these designer watch prices. IMO once you go over like 500 theres no way of knowing the price.

Thanks for the thoughts. I've basically been spending the last few days treading water. Hardly playing or studying. I've been trying to get my move finalized as something came up that made me look into getting backup plans.

In my life I have these swings occasionally, I don't think it is some deeper mental problem like bipolar disorder. At worst I think it is depression. I got help for that for a long time and have been better. What i'm dealing with right now is quite minor in comparison. Back then I had nothing, now I have lots of what I could want.. life is good on paper of course. It might be because I'm not working out as I ought to be, that'll be fixed when I've got the gym next month. Just putting some thoughts on paper really.

Speaking with mentors, talking to friends, exercising, learning, spending time outside of the home, the beach, talking to family, dating. These are what help me stay mentally healthy. I should focus on them. This state I'm in only needs to be temporary

Cheeky

I'm going to try and play three hours straight and evaluate from there. I really think longer sessions will help in the long run. Back on the grind today

What's up guys, I am officially in the states. I just got back "home" from a brief vacation with my father and am orienting myself on this leg of my journey before going to my next leasing spot where I will grind my hardest. I'm still going to try and put in decent hours while I'm here although it will be easy to get distracted by family, friends and dating.

Something interesting coming down the pipeline tho! I met an experienced investor that is taking a trip to South America to buy a property with cash who is a family friend. I'm going to go with him in a month and witness the process. He's willing to teach me for what seems so far to be for free, so I'm pretty excited for where this may lead.

Is that south american property going to be an investment?

It's going to be an investment for him and a few people he is including to pool $$ together with. I do not intend on investing in his enterprise because how he has set it up is especially illiquid and that flat out prevents me from ever wanting to put money into it. I am however excited to visit the country in general and will still put in hours working while I'm there.

Oh and an update from my goal of 200 hours in August: I managed just 125.5 hours. That's really not good. I did have quite a bit of travel and family time that ate away at the available time. Although I did go out a good deal and had one positive and one negative drug experience, neither of which will be the norm for how I spend my time. So all things considered, the amount of hours I got in is "okay" but not what I want to be consistently doing. For this month given I'll have a decent amount of travel, family time, and a week-long visitor at my next place, I'm going to shoot for 150 hours which is still high.

I feel great tho, life is smooth. Nothing major in my life is a problem and I ought to appreciate that.

Not playing too too much while being with family. I'm off to my new spot on the 10th and from then till May I'll be on the hardcore grind whenever I'm home. I'm about 7k below peak so not struggling just kind of treading water a little bit. At 87.312/150k

I'm here!! So far so good, pretty hyped. Going out to run a bunch of the moving-in errands, grabbing a monitor etc then the grind will really begin.

I had a really nice group video chat with my friends from uni and we are planning a few trips. Looks like I'll be going on a trip at the end of the month, middle of november, and new years eve then maybe a family trip mid january. And a circuit event early december and late january. What all this means is, I'm going to try and structure my goals around hitting certain targets when I'm home and thus without obligations and then trying to fit in playing whenever I can and whenever it makes sense on my trips. I'm still giving it some thought about what my average hours per day ought to be while I live here.. I'm thinking it ought to be pretty high as I have all of my recharge-methods right around me. The beach, sauna, pool, hot tub, gym, instrument, weed, and a friend although I'll hold off on making any decisions till I've played my first few sessions.

Hey guys my friends from uni and I are trying to get an airbnb in miami for new years eve to have a week of partying. Do any of you know miami well that you can recommend a few streets to look at for grabbing the airbnb? We'd like to preferably be within walking distance of where we will be going out or a very short uber. Price isn't that big a deal, we can evaluate different options. Thanks!

Hey guys I have been settling in to my new spot and have been enjoying life. Still grinding but now that I have a flatmate that really gets plo intricacies that I talk about poker with all the time, I haven't had the need to post as much. I think this blog served primarily as an outlet for me to discuss my poker experience. I'm going to continue to update but not as liberally as previously, I don't think. I'll lay out what I've been up to when I have some time next week on my trip.

Time flies. I learned a lot on this trip and there are some pieces coming together for my future investments. My path is becoming clearer for how I'm going to proceed with stabilizing my finances for the long term. There have been a few key people that I have ran into which I am thankful for. It's crazy to me that it's been almost two weeks since I last updated here.

My phone got stolen while I was here, I had some unforeseen family news, and I am losing a little in poker but overall I am very happy with where I am at. I have so much to be appreciative of.

I fly home tomorrow night and am going to have an unusual goal for the first week (until the 14th) that I am home: I am not going to go on any dates. On top of that I am going to either be in the gym or go on a long run each day. My daily routine includes going to the beach, running a distance along it, being in the pool & hot tub, lifting in the gym, spending some time studying real estate and poker, getting dinner to go from somewhere, and grinding sessions put in between each of those and then my day has come and gone. If I stick to this framework of living a healthy life and working hard, I know I can do great things for myself. I've already had some great progress with my fitness so far and in the first week home I want to hit the ground running (lol) and maintain my momentum.

Just did a quick tally, I'm at somewhere around 104.8k/150k for my mid-term $ goal. Pretty steady progress

I'm trying to decide when to buy a luxury 6k watch. What completion of a goal, what total $ amount won or networth total I should do it at. Any thoughts?

Alright I've thought about it after talking to a few people and no one really had ideas that I liked. Dunno what I was looking for so I'm currently logged at >12k hands on ignition. I'll get the watch when it shows >100k hands aka 88k hands from now on ignition or ~200k total hands from now. Hopefully (I assume really) I'll have finished the $150k goal by then. Dunno the ship doesn't really seem like its path is charted right now and this should help.
