I have enjoyed reading several of these PG&C threads so I decided to start my own.

I want to buy a late 80’s early 90’s 911 (Say 40-50K). I want to pay for it with money won from playing poker. Only one small problem with this plan – I am a losing player.

I have played on and off since 2005/6 with mixed results. (Much better live than online). I started playing again online a few months ago and have decided to take the hobby much more seriously.

My plan is start at the bottom and work my way up depositing to skip levels as I learn.
Long term I would like to get to the point where I can beat NL200 online and hold my own in the 5-10 live games in KC.
Between the Job and my kids I have somewhat limited time to play so most of it will be on ACR or Bovada. My current BR 160 on ACR and 220 ish on Bovada.

Unfortunately for the readers of this thread I have a good career very solid life roll and am happily married so it is highly unlikely that I will be playing with my last dollars on the felt. Nor is it likely I am some secret poker genius bound to fly up to the highest levels. So I guess if anyone finds anything interesting about being a successful middle aged well to do corporate type I will happily answer those questions. Or any other for that matter with in reason.

I hope posting in this thread and thinking about poker will help me become a winning player.

Thanks in advance for your replies and please forgive any spelling or grammar errors , I am good a lots of things just not so much that.

Update

Mental Game of poker ordered.

Have played about 1800 hand of NL2 and 800 of NL5 at and All in adjusted -4 PTBB/100

Playing 19/15 VPIP/PRF

I think the first leak to work on is that I can be overly competitive on a per had basis. A few times I have been pretty sure I was behind and the only way to have a chance to win was to bluff. This is loosing sight of the bigger picture of how to be a winning player and something to work on going forward. This has to be some special kind of Tilt that I am prone to. I do not get angry, I just hate loosing at anything which has been positive for me over all but I need to internalize that not paying off is winning even if you lose that hand.

This week is going to be crazy busy with Family coming in town but I will try and post a few hands. I think the starting point is just to begin to think through hands more often rather than treating poker as recreation.

Ok so here is a hand that I am unsure on I will try to add my thoughts and see

Winning Poker Network Game #462063251: No Limit Holdem ($0.02/$0.05)
Seats: 6
Seat 2: AnCuradh ($5.34) 33/15 over 50 hands
Seat 3: icantspel ($8.08)
Seat 4: Shortfinger Jack ($2.32)
Seat 5: QueensFinest ($5)
Seat 6: NovaTech ($5)
Button is seat 4
QueensFinest: posts small blind $0.02
NovaTech: posts big blind $0.05
*** HOLE CARDS ***
icantspel: dealt [9c Ah]
AnCuradh: calls $0.05
icantspel: raises $0.20
Shortfinger Jack: folds
QueensFinest: folds
NovaTech: folds
AnCuradh: calls $0.15
*** FLOP *** [Ac 2d 3h]
AnCuradh: checks
icantspel: bets $0.30
AnCuradh: calls $0.30

Same as my standard c-bet. I c-bet probably too much so getting called light is possible
*** TURN *** [Ac 2d 3h] [As]
AnCuradh: checks
icantspel: bets $0.51
AnCuradh: raises $1.02 - second ace makes it less likly for me to have one. Since I am pretty aggresive this could be a bluff
icantspel: raises all-in $7.07 - this might be my mistake upon review. What is calling that I beat? Not much.
AnCuradh: raises all-in $3.82
icantspel: pulls back uncalled bet $2.74
*** RIVER *** [Ac 2d 3h] [As] [Ts]
*** SUMMARY ***
Pot: $10.22 | Rake: $0.37 | BBJ: $0.16 |
Board: [Ac 2d 3h As Ts]
Seat 2: AnCuradh won $10.22 (+$4.88) [5h 4h] Straight, Five High
Seat 3: icantspel lost -$5.34 [9c Ah] Three of a Kind, Aces
Seat 4: Shortfinger Jack didn't bet
Seat 5: QueensFinest lost -$0.02
Seat 6: NovaTech lost -$0.05

After reviewing looks like I over played my hand on the turn. Just would like to confirm that I am not being to results oriented. At this level I should probably check call or fold anyone with reasonable stats if they show agression

Ah9c hand: Iso'ing the limp is fine, good sizing pre too.
On the flop: I'd check back A9o here as I have other hands I'm betting this flop with and the xb w/ A9 protects my checking range. C-bet isn't bad though, pretty dry flop so I'd only go for a 1/2psb instead of 3/5ths.
On the turn: Since you c-bet flop, no point in x'ing turn, so betting is fine. It's very unlikely villain's min-raise ott is a bluff. They will have flopped sets that turned a boat here quite often, they will have Ax in that spot, and they have more combos of Ax that beat you, than you beat them with. As played I call the min-raise since I have position, and see what they do on rivers. I'm hoping for river to go x/x, if they bet river, it's a fold since there's no draws nor backdoors so your range here is only Ax, and boats that you could have played this way. A9 is close to the bottom of your range, so it's a pretty ez fold unless you have a read on villain that they can spazz like this with air.

Lotta free vids on youtube, and lotta poker players stream nowadays too so you might wanna check them out before signing up with a site. Can also do sweat sessions, there is a thread in the uNL NL/PL section that u can post in for sweats.

Played a home game tournament and fished second in the first and first in the second. good to play with people who need a chart of what hand beats what. Anyway it was fun.

Played about 800 hands since the last update. One complete monkey spew day - 5 bi where I was trying to work on barreling but pretty sure I was a disaster at it.

After that I decided to review my hands and look at what would be the best to work on. I decided that blind steeling is the place to start. I am opening up my range on the button. Previously only opening 20% of hands when folded to. I am going to try to open about 40% when folded to and at least to start in a small sample I have having some success.

Ok so clearly I have not exactly been committed to this thread or giving timely updates. That said new year new goals. Reviving this as part of my plan to play more and improve my game in 2018 is off to a good start at least.

Some goals for the year.

Loose some weight (25 lbs or so will do) - starting wt 225
Play more poker-
Become a winning mico stakes player
update this thread twice a month

As for the playing schedule ect my situation has not changed so I would be thrilled if I could play 70-100k hands in 2018. Will try and play 3 school nights (when not traveling for work) at least and one longer session on the weekend.

Bankroll 349 on ignition. 304 on ACR and 234 on Bovada which I will mostly use for rec sports betting which is also a hobby.

So end of the week update.

Happy with my volume about 6 and half hours. 1900 hands on ACR and a few hundred more on my phone on ignition.

Not great results wise but not that bad either. Down $1.54 on ACR and $6.19 on Ig.

For knocking the rust off feel pretty good about it. Hopefully I can have the time to go through and do a review and find some areas to work on. I am sure I have tons of leaks.

Stats 21/15/6 which seems about right. Maybe a touch on the tight side? Not enough hands to mean anything but position check shows me playing and winning from the bt and co as well as playing more hands there. Might even could steel a little more from the btn.

Once of the mental game area's I am have always struggled with is being some what over competitive. Trying to win hands I should let go. Made more folds and felt like less hopeless bluffs (though I can think of one or two). So that is a positive for the first week.

Lost to work on but having fun playing again an looking forward to playing more.

Little late with the update. Overall really good week. Got in 2,700 hands. Ran well and NL2 and 5 not so much at a few hands of NL10. Overall down 7 dollars or so but lost 31 at NL10.

Fell like i am getting better at choosing when to be aggressive instead of just blindly stabbing at pots. Also getting better but have much work to do on flop textures and how they impact the equity of my range v my opponents. At these levels it is not hard to find some very loose players. Made some nice adjustments and got it in lighter than I would normally against some of the widest ranges. This was somewhat out of my comfort zone but if some one is playing 84 percent of hands and raising every one J8 is more then enough to call and A9 is a three bet call and happily call it off. A few stacks got shipped back and forth but got it in good each time against this villain.

I am having a bunch of fun and my interest in the game has been rekindled for sure. Going to get a chance to play in a few weeks. Taking a trip to Phoniex and will play at talking stick. Maybe should keep running tabs of all the live poker rooms I play in ITT.

So made a trip out to Az. Stayed at talking stick and was able to play live for 4 hours or so. Az itself was great. The game was not. Plenty of bad players just a miserable set of people. Between the head phones, complaining about the rake slow play etc was not much fun. Room was nice and I would go back again but just a bad draw.

So far ytd just short of 15k hands played. Down a little but all in EV is in the green for NL2 and NL5. Proably should not have played the session of NL10 after drinks but not to much damage done.

ACR 277
Ign 331
Bovada 216
